Chapter 26
Third Person POV
After meeting Vivaan at the office, Misha entered her chachu's house to pick up Vaani. The entire day, she was debating about Vivaan. She entered the living room to see the entire family gathered there.
Misha's grandparents, Avi and Anu and her chachu and chachi were sitting in the living room. Even Vivaan's mother was there.
"Chachu I where is Vaani?" she questioned but she noticed the family had mixed emotions plastered on their faces.
Before she could say anything "Is it true Misha? Is Vivaan Vaani's father?" her chachu questioned her sternly. Her breath hitched hearing his words, how did he know?
Looking around the room, she saw that everyone was wanting to ask the same question
"Chachu... woh..." she couldn't complete her sentence. She couldn't lie to her family anymore
"I told you all, this girl is not worth our trust." Her chachi commented meanly
"Pooja let her answer" Misha's chachu asked her again "Is she Vivaan's daughter?"
Misha spoke slowly "Yes chach..."
Smack
Misha felt a strong sting on her left cheek and her vision blurred.
"Mom!" Misha heard Vivaan's voice coming from behind her where the door was.
Misha turned her head and saw that Vivaan's mom had slapped her. She looked towards her family and saw them angry and hurt at same time.
"Misha how could you lie to us this way?" Misha's chachu was angry at his niece.
Misha looked down in shame.
"I had told you this girl is not trustworthy! She lied to us about everything, Vivaan is Vaani's father and there is no Ayush in the picture" Misha's chachi screamed. And everyone's head turned towards her.
"You never married any guy after you left... isn't that true Misha" her chachi confirmed
"Yes chachi" Misha said again, her head bowed in shame in front of all her family, Vivaan and Vivaan's mom.
All of them were angry, confused, hurt, all of it.
"Your chachi, Pooja ji is right. You are not the person I thought you were Misha. I know you and Vivaan had a bad start. But that does not mean that you can keep my son away from his child. You kept that poor child away from her father and from the rest of the family" Vivaan's mother spoke.
Misha's grandmother came and held her elbow tightly " This is not how we all raised you.... not at all! No matter the circumstances, how could you di this crime Misha? How could you?" she spit out in hurt.
"It is not Misha's fault. I am to blame for everything......" Vivaan spoke. He couldn't take Misha crying like this. He was the one who made her run away, he should be punished not her. But before he could say anything
Misha spoke with a trembling voice "Vivaan and I were never in love. We had a bad start and then our marriage was a complete hoax. He hurt me and I didn't want my child to grow in his presence ... he was ..." and smack again.. Vivaan's mother slapped her again
"Mom! Please ! You can't just hit Misha like this" Vivaan got defensive
"No your mom is correct Vivaan" Misha's grandmother spoke "Misha should have dealt with this matter maturely. Running away is never the answer. I don't want to know what happened between you both but the one who suffered the most was Vaani. A child needs the love of both her parents. Misha you should have given him a chance. You should have allowed him to prove himself as a worthy father. and If he didn't then your approach could have been different. Instead, you thought for yourself not for your child. You were hurt, You were in pain, You did not want to be with Vivaan that does not make him a bad father. He never even got a chance to prove himself and poor little Vaani was away from her father and suffered the most" her grandmother's word burned holes in Misha's heart.
"I am ....am.. sorry dadi" Misha spoke with trembling lips.
Misha's chachu spoke his mind "Misha Vaani is Vivaan's daughter and we could fight a custody battle with you but I don't want Vaani to go through that pain because for her you both are equally important. But you and Vivaan both need to work out your issues and give your marriage a chance for the sake of your daughter"
"I agree with Papa. Misha you both need to work it out. Vivaan and I have had our differences but I agree that you both need to sort out your differences and give your marriage a second chance" Avi agreed.
Vivaan looked towards Misha. Hoping that she would say yes.
Misha nodded her head in agreement.
---------------------------------------------------
In the next week, Misha and Vaani moved to Vivaan's house.
"Mumma look look.... see daddy got this for me" Vaani showed Misha a doll in her hands that Vivaan had recently got for her. Infact Vivaan had set up a room for Vaani at his house.
Things between Misha and Vivaan's mother were on thin ice. Misha was hurt knowing that the woman who loved her was being distant from her. But both the woman were behaving cordially with each other.
Misha bent down and hugged Vaani who was happily jumping around in the new house in her cute little pigtails. Soon the mother and daughter ended up sleeping in the guestroom taking a small afternoon nap.
After few hours, Misha woke up to find the other side of the bed empty and the sheets cold. Vaani was not there. At first she panicked but then reassured herself that Vaani might be downstairs.
She freshned up and climbed downstairs when she heard noises coming from the kitchen.
"Daddyy... here.. have .. have" Vaani's sweet voice boomed in the kitchen
"Vaani baby speak low... mumma is sleeping" Vivaan spoke quietly to his daughter.
"Oh sor..sol..solly daddy... here have have " she offered Vivaan one of her strawberries from her bowl.

Vivaan chewed on the strawberry as if it was the tastiest food in the world.
"Yum princess" he smiled.
"Vaani beta ... you need to have other fruits also... here I have cut papaya for both of you .. Vivaan and Vaani take some of this papaya" Vivaan's mother came out of the kitchen holding a bowl of papaya.
Vaani's face fell when she saw the Papaya and it mimicked Vivaan's face. Both of them looked at the Papaya as if it they were going to puke.
"Come have this you both" Vivaan's mother spoke again.
But both the heads bobbed together in a negative gesture."Like father - Like daughter, haha .. She is just like you Vivaan. She hates Papaya too" his mother smiled and kissed her granddaughter on her cheeks while happy tears were coming down her eyes.
Misha's eyes were getting numb too. Seeing Vaani like this made her feel guilty. Her grandmother was right, Misha thought. The more she thinks about it, she left because she did not want to be anywhere near Vivaan but she should have thought about her daughter.
So far, Vivaan has been nothing better than a dotting father.
She silently watched the happy family from afar but felt a ting of pain in her hear. This was her family too...
Her mother like mother-in-law
Her Husband
Her daughter
and Yet she felt like a foreigner here in this family!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
At night time, Misha put Vaani to sleep. Vaani wanted to sleep with her dadi. Misha left her mother in laws room after Vaani fell asleep.
She turned towards the guest room when her mother in law stopped her.
"yes mom" Misha asked
"Misha, I know you think I was harsh on you but sometimes, we adults, need to be strict for the betterment of our kids." Vivaan's mother spoke lightly "Why are you going this way?'
"My room is there mom so I am just going to sleep" Misha spoke while gesturing towards the guest room.
"Beta, I know Vivaan raised his hand on you but he has realized his mistake, trust me. After his accident, he used to have nightmares where he kept on saying your name. He has suffered a lot and he has asked you for a second chance. You both need to work out your issues. Staying in different rooms in not going to help, you should go to his room. I am not saying that you have to do anything without your consent, I am just advising to give each other time and sort out your issues. Now will you go to his room or you want to stay in the guest room?" Vivaan's looked hopegully towards Misha.
Misha thought for a moment. She had been thinking about her and Vivaan's future the whole week before moving to his house and her heart had already decided long back. She looked at her mother in law with a soft smile
"Good night mom" she wished and turned her direction towards Vivaan's room.
"Tomorrow I will ask the staff to shift your stuff to his room like before" her mother in law spoke happily, feeling like her family was back on its track, slowly but steadily.
