Chapter 3
"N, can we go now?" I asked, again, for probably the 10th time in a half an hour.
"Why are you suddenly in a rush to go again?" N replied, probably getting a tad annoyed.
"No reason."
N sighed. "There's a reason, but why won't you tell me?"
"Can't I just explain on the way back to the castle?" I whined.
"I'm trying to figure out what to do with Team Plasma and trying to figure out what they're planning."
I threw my head back so I was staring at the ceiling, growing frustrated. "Can't this wait??"
The green haired trainer facepalmed. "Weren't you the one saying you wanted to help?" It was a statement more than a question.
"Maybe later. I've had enough action for one day, don't cha think? Besides, you're the one that said you wanted me to back out of it!"
"Just go out and find something to do until I'm ready to leave...ok?"
I practically growled at him before walking out. Stuck in Driftveil, with Gym Leaders, Champions, and Dexholders walking around. I mean, I could leave, but then that would mean leaving N here, which wouldn't be very nice. I sighed, kicking a small pebble that was on the ground.
I found myself walking to the PWT. I wasn't going to compete this time, but watch. Competing again would only cause myself to get attention. I sat down in my seat, away from front row, and watched the Dexholders compete in their tournament. Against suckers who actually thought they could win.
First up to battle was Blue. Now she was, what, 21? But she still wore the same kind of outfit I saw her in last. She sent her Blastoise out first.
~~~
It was a quick battle, as were the others. The other trainers really had no chance against the Dexholders. Now there was only one battle left. I impatiently waited to see who was going to battle. I held back a gasp as a familiar trainer stepped onto the stage.
Usual red and black jacket, black gloves, and jeans, and his red hair was longer than the last time I saw him, and still had that little cowlick on the top of his head. One thing that struck me was the red rimmed glasses over his silver eyes. He was still emotionless as ever though.
Silver sent out Weavile first, quickly taking out his opponent's three Pokemon. I barely paid attention to the battle though, since I was still in shock at seeing Silver again. And with glasses... I couldn't help but feel bad; technically that was my fault. I can still remember his screams from that night. I could feel my eyes starting to water up, but I forced myself to hold back the tears.
The Dexholders were all on the battle stage, smiling and/or waving to the roaring crowd. I saw all of them, from the Kanto trainers, to Johto, to Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Seeing them, especially the ones I got the closest to, all together made me realize how much I missed them. I bit my lip to try to stop myself from crying. I couldn't. I got up and quickly walked out before anyone could leave. But before I managed to get out, I made eye contact with a certain Dexholder. Next thing I knew, I was running out with tears pouring out of my eyes.
I was outside, and away from them, but I knew they'd try to find me, so I kept running. They (or just Silver) are probably already out of the PWT, looking around. Before I ran out, I could read the shock on his face. I ran through the gate and into the city.
"Umber?!" I could hear through the loud crowd. Shit, he was probably close.
I unclipped Zorua's Pokeball as I was running, and released him. He looked around surprised as he ran besides me.
"I've got some old friends running after me, and I kinda don't want them to find me, so do you think you can change into me so I can get away?"
Zorua nodded, and the same pink light covered him. After it was gone, I was looking at a nearly perfect copy of myself. "And if they catch up to me?"
"Do whatever you Zorua do; change back, laugh at their face, and run?" I quickly glanced behind me, and although I couldn't see them, they could catch up any moment. I've been running practically all day; they're probably not as tired as I am.
"Yeah, ok. Whatever makes you happy." Zorua said, running in a different direction. He ran so that he ran south east, and I ran north, hopefully just far enough to reach N.
I was almost there. Once I got N, we could find Zorua and fly off. Come on Umber, just a little farther!
"Why isn't it Umber! Long time no see!" A familiar voice said. But it wasn't Silver. I stopped running and looked behind me, but there was no one there. "I'm not behind you silly!" I heard from above. And there he was; Gold flying on the back of his Togekiss. He landed in front of me, returning Togekiss to its Pokeball.
"Hey, Goldie." I mumbled.
He grinned. "Aw, so you haven't forgotten me!"
"It's only been two years..."
"Two years too many if you ask me! But come on, you gotta come see the others!" He said, grabbing my arm and dragging me back toward the PWT.
I pulled my arm out of his grasp. "I didn't say I wanted to see the others."
He looked confused. "You don't wanna come say hi to everyone? Even after two years?"
"I never wanted to see you guys again, don't you understand?" I growled, looking down.
"No, I don't...we're your friends. We're on your side."
"My side? What is my side? Don't you remember anything? I tricked you and Silver into thinking I was your friend. It was a trick, Gold! I didn't give a damn about any of you guys until I quit Team Rocket!"
"But that doesn't mean we can't be friends now." He said, grabbing my hand gently. "The others are waiting to see you..."
"Do they know?" I asked. "That I'm...I was a Rocket?"
Gold shook his head. "Me and Silver didn't say anything. We kept it a secret..."
I sighed, and followed him back to the PWT, where the others were waiting.
~~~
We walked in, and I could hear their excited shouts (with, of course, the exception of Silver and Green). They ran around, greeting me and throwing me a million questions a minute.
"Alright, alright! Calm down, give her some air to breathe!" Gold shouted, and everyone backed up a couple steps. I looked around and saw all the Dexholders, and Lyra. Why she was there; I couldn't care less to know.
Zorua ran over, in his regular form, barking at my legs. I just took out his Pokeball and returned him.
"So that was your Pokemon?" Red asked. "What was it, I've never seen one before!"
"Yeah, and where can I catch one?" Crystal asked. "I'd love to go catch all the Pokemon they have here; it'll be great for the Pokedex!"
"Sheesh Kris, even when we're away from home you're always working..." Gold mumbled. "But anyways, Umber, how has your two year trip been? Have you been hanging out here the whole time?"
"No." I answered simply. I didn't want to be here, and I wasn't planning on saying hello to them any time soon. Too bad I had to anyways. Why Arceus; what have I ever done to you?
"Where else have you been?"
"Orre."
"You mean that dry desert of a region?"
I shrugged as a response. "You get used to it."
"Well now that we're all together again, why don't we all go sightseeing now?" Gold suggested. Everyone smiled and nodded as a response.
"I've got places to be, so if you excuse me..." I said, beginning to walk out. But a hand grabbed my arm. A gloved hand. I turned around and looked into those silver eyes I missed too much.
"You guys can go, I want to talk to Umber alone..." He said. Oh, shit. I'm in trouble, aren't I?
"Alright Silvy, just don't take too long!" Lyra smiled before kissing him on the cheek and walking away with the others. Once they were gone, Silver let go of my arm, realizing he was still holding onto me.
"What was that?" I asked.
"What was what?"
"That little kiss on the cheek."
The red head looked down, embarrassed. "I guess we should catch up a little, huh?"
I shrugged again.
"So what are you doing here?" He asked.
"Hiding."
He raised an eyebrow, and looked around. "At one of the biggest events in Pokemon history?"
"Sometimes the best hiding places are in the most obvious spots." I replied. "Now what was up with that kiss?"
He bit his lip before replying. "Lyra's my girlfriend now."
I blinked a couple times. "Wait, back up. Girlfriend?"
"A few months after you left, me and her started dating..."
"Oh..." I was at a loss for words. I guess he really didn't like me if he decided to move on so quickly.
"Have you found anyone yet?" He asked, which caught me off guard.
"Huh? Oh, um, no..." I said, looking down.
"Oh."
"Well if that's all you wanted to ask, then I should get going." I said, turning to walk away. But he grabbed my arm again.
"Why didn't you want to be a Dexholder?"
I stood there quietly. "I already said in the letter that you wouldn't want me as a DexHolder."
"That's not a good reason. There was another reason, wasn't there? Why aren't you telling me?"
"...I didn't think you would want me, ok? I was thinking of you..."
Silver stood there in shock. "Because of me? What did I do to make you want to leave?"
"You hate me! I'm a Rocket, Silver, and I screwed up! You said it yourself, you hate me. You wanted me gone, admit it!" I yelled, turning around. "Look what I did to you! If I never got you locked up, then you wouldn't have gone blind, and you wouldn't need glasses! You were in pain, and it was all my fault!"
"You were a Rocket."
"No, I still am. I was raised to be a Rocket... I'm just so used to the title."
"Then maybe you should start calling yourself a DexHolder..."
"They still don't know I was apart of Team Rocket; if the rest of them find out, they won't be too happy."
"I doubt they'd--"
"Just shut up, Silver! I don't need to be a DexHolder! I don't need friends! I don't need any of them, or you!" I screamed at him. "I never wanted to see any of you again! I was going to start over here, and clear my name..."
"Because the police are after you?" He asked, as if someone already told him.
"Yeah...how did you know?"
"I saw a view wanted posters around the city..." He chuckled a little.
"What are you laughing at?" I glared.
"Kinda like when we first met, right? You saw me rip down a couple wanted posters of me, and helped me stay away from them."
"You do know I didn't give a damn about you getting caught; I was only trying to lure you to the Rocket hideout..."
"I don't care. You still helped me, and maybe I should re-pay you?" He asked nervously.
I thought about it for a little bit. "No thanks...I'm doing fine on my own." I said, turning down his offer. I still liked him, a lot, and seeing him with Lyra would probably upset me. Besides, all I want him to do is forgive me...that's all that matters to me. "I should get going now..." I turned, and starting to walk away. This time he didn't stop me. I walked out of the building, taking out Dragonite and flying to the north of the city. Time to go 'home' and forget any of this happened...
