Prologue: Decisions

Pax's POV

I'm Pax and I'm currently 8 years old. I live in the house in my neighborhood that I was used to when I first moved here with my family about 3 years ago.

I was bored in the backyard since I had nothing to do other than play with the kids who visited me.

Sometimes, the kids who played with me before are busy with their lives if it has something to do with going to school while I have a summer break from school.

They do have summer camp, school, and vacation, which is a boredom for me to survive.

I have nothing to do other than play with my own imagination.

That's until I realized.

What if I have a brother or a sister? Would that change everything for me to play with?

Maybe I should ask my parents if I can have a brother or a sister.

I went inside the house to ask my parents to see them, talking about when they should enroll me for school.

Pax: Mom, Dad?

Oakley: Yes sweetie?

Pax: Can I have a little brother or a little sister?

I noticed my parents didn't answer my question. I don't know if I should be scared or not.

Oakley: Your father and I will think about it, play outside.

Pax: Okie..

I went to the backyard to get the things before I went inside to my room.

While going to my room, I heard my parents talking, and I was not sure if I should hear them about what they were talking about the question I asked earlier.

Maybe I should.

I hid behind the wall before listening to my parents talking.

Oakley: I don't know if we can fulfill what we want.

Flynn: Our son is not specific about what kind of sibling he wants.

Oakley: Fair enough.

Flynn: For an easier option, we'll go to the orphanage to adopt one. I'll be the one to sign up the papers given to us.

Oakley: Should we take our son there for him to decide?

Flynn: That might do.

Oakley: How about taking him there tomorrow?

Flynn: Alright dear, anything for our loving son.

Oakley: Should it be a surprise to him?

Flynn: As long as it can make him feel happy.

Wait, are we going there tomorrow? It's going to be great! I could have a brother or a sister!

I quickly ran to my bedroom to put down my toys before I climbed on my bed.

I jumped on my bed feeling excited that I could have a brother or a sister.

Pax: This is a dream come true!

I heard my mom calling me from the kitchen.

Oakley: Sweetie! Can you please come here? We're going to talk.

I stopped jumping on my bed before I got off my bed and ran to the kitchen to see my mom and dad waiting for me.

Oakley: About the question you asked earlier. You're going to have a sibling so you can play with them.

I'm happy to have a sibling so I can play with them.

Pax: Yay! Thank you mom and dad!

Oakley: In the meantime, let's go out to get something to eat for dinner. Which one do you want to eat for dinner?

Pax: Macaroni and cheese!

Oakley: Now, now sweetie, we can pick something else you like since you need to try something new, aside from any kinds of pasta.

Pax: Oh okay..

We went to the restaurant before we went inside to eat dinner.

And the waiter gave us the menu for me to read the kids' menu, which I can't decide.

Waiter: What will you pick for dinner?

Oakley: Sweetie, what did you pick?

Pax: Chicken nuggets.

Oakley: Alright sweetie, we'll pick that one. What about the drinks?

Pax: Chocolate milk.

Oakley: I think that's what my son wants. For me, I'll go with the chicken fajitas and my drink will be iced tea.

Flynn: And I'll go with garlic butter shrimp and my drink will be a cold beer.

Waiter: Is that all?

Oakley: That's all.

Waiter: Your order will be made in 40 minutes.

Oakley: Sweetie, what kind of sibling do you want?

Pax: I think I want one who doesn't make me feel lonely when playing.

Oakley: So a playful one?

Pax: Sorta.

Oakley: It's okay, you can decide when you go with us.

Flynn: We'll help not just you but also your sibling to have a simple life.

Oakley: I want you to be good to your brother or sister.

Pax: I promise that I'll take good care of them and stay by my side.

Then I saw the waiter put our food on the table, which was the one that my parents ordered.

Waiter: Enjoy your meal.

The waiter left before we started eating the meal.

Oakley: How are the chicken nuggets?

Pax: It taste good.

I saw my mom smiling at me before I continued eating the chicken nuggets.

When I finished eating the chicken nuggets, I drank the chocolate milk, which I also like.

After that, we all went home. I climbed up on my bed, preparing myself to end the day by sleeping.

Oakley: Sweetie, want me to read a bedtime story?

Pax: Yes please!

I saw my mom get me a story book which is one of my favorite stories that I usually read if I'm staying inside on rainy days.

She sat beside me before opening the book and reading the story.

She read Jack and the Beanstalk, which I loved when I was gifted with story books from my relatives before moving here.

After she read the story, she tucked me inside the blanket before turning on the lantern and the lights.

Oakley: Good night sweetie.

I fell asleep while hugging my teddy bear that was given by my dad, who bought it when he was on his way home from work.
