Chapter 2: Getting to know Pax's friends
Penny's POV
I woke up and I noticed that I was in my new room since Pax's parents had set-up my room last night.
Good thing I have a good amount of sleep since I was back in the orphanage. I don't have a good sleep in the orphanage since there are nightmares.
I miss the kind daycare taker who often takes care of not only me but also the other kids.
Maybe I was adopted for a good reason, since I don't want to stay in an orphanage a little longer where those kids tried to hurt me for being "too pretty" with my pink hair.
I saw my mom go inside my room to wake me up.
Oakley: Sweetie! It's time to wake up.
Penny: Good morning mom!
Wait, is it okay if I could call her mom? I think it's sorta okay for me to call her mom since I'm adopted.
Oakley: Good morning to you too, sweetie! Time to eat your breakfast!
I got off my bed before going out to the dining room to eat.
I saw Pax, who was also waiting for the food for us to eat.
Penny: Brother, what do you think is the breakfast we'll eat?
I saw Pax smelling something from the kitchen.
Pax: It's pancakes!
Penny: Why is that?
Pax: It's the best breakfast for not just kids, but also for a family!
Oakley: Sweetie, no spoiling the surprise for your little sister.
Pax: Sorry mom...
Oakley: It's okay sweetie.
I saw our mom had finished cooking the pancakes before she brought a plate of pancakes to our table.
Oakley: I'll be back to get a syrup. Don't eat yet.
Pax + Penny: Yes mom!
We saw our mom going to the kitchen to get syrup which I had never heard of, since it's different from how I eat the meals back in the orphanage.
Penny: Big brother, what's a syrup?
Pax: It's something for me to drizzle on the pancakes, which makes a good combo. You can pick one of them, since you can either try to find your favorite.
Penny: Okay!
I waited before I saw our mom go back to the table while holding the syrups.
Oakley: Here is your syrup for the pancakes, kids!
Pax + Penny: Thank you mommy!
I get the chocolate syrup from the table, which I like chocolate since the kind daycare taker gave it to me since it's my favorite.
I pour the chocolate syrup on my pancakes before I start eating it.
While eating, I saw Pax pick the other syrup which he liked since it's his favorite.
After finishing eating the pancakes, I decided to play with him.
Penny: Pax, are we going to play outside?
Pax: Of course, I'm going to get the plushies, you should get yours too.
Penny: Okie!
I went to my room and grabbed my cat plushie before going out of my room.
Then I went to the backyard to wait for Pax to play with me.
I saw Pax going out to the backyard while bringing a wagon of toys like the blocks and plushies.
Pax: Sorry if it's a lot, but we can play with these to make it less boring.
Penny: It's okay big brother.
???: Who's that?
I looked at someone who had just entered our backyard.
Pax: Penny, this is one of my friends, Saylor. Saylor, this is my adopted sister, Penny.
So it's one of Pax's friends who went to our backyard since he knows him well.
Is there something that I don't know much about my own brother?
Saylor: It's nice to meet you!
Penny: It's nice to meet you as well!
Saylor: Can we play together?
Pax: Sure! The more the merrier!
Saylor decided to play with us together while one of us created the story out of the plushies that we brought.
Penny: It was fun!
Saylor: I agree! It's a good day for us to play together!
???: Uh hello? Mind if we come in?
Pax: Oh hello Naomi! Where's your brother?
Wait, she has a brother too? That's nice.
???: Sorry about Naomi!
Pax: It's okay, Yorick.
Yorick: Please don't get lost while running!
Naomi: Sorry...
Pax: Um anyway, let's play.
Naomi: Okay!
Yorick: Alright...
Naomi and Yorick joined us to play with the toys that Pax brought with the wagon.
Then one of us decided to play tag, which I had never heard of, since I hadn't played with the other kids before until I met Pax, who is now my brother.
Penny: Um what's tag?
Saylor: It's basically a game where the person who is the "it" has to tag the others. The goal for the "it" is that they have to tag someone and run away. And repeat. For the ones who are not "it", the safe place is the bench if you're tired.
Penny: Oh.
All of us form a circle before Saylor does the counting game.
Saylor: Eeny, meenie, miney mo, catch a tiger by the toe. If he squeals, let him go. Eeny, meenie, miney mo.
Saylor points at me, where I have to tag them.
Looks like it's my first time playing a game with them.
Saylor: Guys run! She's "it"!
I decided to chase Naomi and Yorick, who were running away from me.
Looks like Yorick tripped while Naomi ran away to avoid being tagged.
I touched Yorick before I quickly ran away.
Yorick: I shouldn't have tripped...
I saw Yorick get up while I was on top of the bench resting.
This is tiring, since I had to chase Yorick earlier and now he's the "it".
Yorick: Are you kidding me!?
I noticed Pax who was not just tying his shoes but also not in the safe zone.
Penny: Big brother! Run!
Pax noticed and tried to run away until Yorick managed to tag Pax.
Looks like we're dead...
I got up from the bench before continuing to play with them.
At least it's better to play with them than the kids I have encountered at the orphanage.
End of Penny's POV
After 3 hours of playing, everyone rested in the backyard while Pax and Penny's parents gave them drinks to take a break, knowing that the parents would pick them up.
Then the father of Saylor decided to pick him up.
Saylor: Bye guys! It's good to see you Pax! And bye Penny!
After 5 minutes of waiting, the mother of Naomi and Yorick arrived to pick them up.
Naomi: Looks like my brother and I are going. See you guys next time!
Penny: Looks like it's only us.
Pax: At least we get to rest since we play with them.
They went inside the house before going to their rooms to end the day by resting.
