The moment she pulled them into the other room—a dead-end hallway, only really meant for private conversations like this—she started shouting. 

"Where the hell have you been?! I thought you were dead!"

The Fool shot up in height, going back to their inhuman form. The mask melted into their face, and a smile stretched across it as they bent down, looking Sister in the eye. "You should have known better. You are aware of the instincts of our kind," they intoned. "I struck out. Explored. Isn't that what you've been doing while I've been gone?"

Her eyes flashed, and she grabbed the collar of their shirt. "I have been looking everywhere," she hissed angrily. "You dropped off the damn map. What was I supposed to think?"

They grabbed her wrist and pried her hand off. "I wasn't gone for that long. A few hundred years is nothing in the grand scheme of our lives." Their eyes shifted to the shadows, which were clinging to Sister and shying away from them. "And why is Warrior hiding from me?"

If she'd been human, she would have popped a vein. As it was, her form started crackling and twisting as her hold on it slipped. Her next words came out in a low, shaky snarl.

"You left me—us alone. For hundreds of years. Meringue doesn't even remember what you look like. And you abandoned us while this realm was falling apart," she snarled. "I know you could have helped. With everything. You're the strongest of us, so why-" Her voice broke, and she glanced away, taking a moment to compose herself. "Why did you leave?"

They stared down at her. The smile was gone now, leaving only those terrible blank eyes. "Because I wanted to."

That stunned her into silence. All of that because it wa—

The Fool interrupted her thoughts, adding, "Isn't that what gods do? We do whatever we want, with no consideration for those around us." A shadow fell across their face and it said, voice laced with mockery, "You've all forgotten your nature."

And with that, it disappeared, leaving Warrior and Sister to process what had just happened.
