"Oh, by the way, you're coming to the party."
Heather looked up, raising an eyebrow at her employer. "Pardon?"
"The party," Sal repeated, as if that explained anything. "Two days from now, in the Devil's Ballroom."
"I know that already. I just thought I made it clear that I wasn't going to any more of those," she snapped.
He leaned forward, resting his chin on his hands. "Oh, I understand. But some important people have been asking after my second-in-command, people who will be in attendance." A smile played across his lips. "And a certain someone has missed Lucifer quite a bit..."
She rubbed the bridge of her nose, face heating up. "You're evil," she muttered. "A terrible boss."
Sal threw back his head and laughed, the dramatic bastard. "And yet you continue to work for me. Truly, the greatest mystery of our time."
