Chapter 3

Haru pushed me forward, reassuring me that everything was going to be alright. By this time the fawn had let go, it was waiting for us to start walking. When we did it seemed to jump in joy, prancing forward with pride towards the other animals(as if it had won a bet). It was like a fairy tale, something that I only read in books and thought that it could never happen in real life. Even if I was still broken, I had a feeling that me and Haru could protect these creatures of any harm. And if we were going to do that then we need to get stronger.

"Hey, Haru?" I called to him.

"Yeah Yuki." He replied looking down to meet my eyes.

"Do you think we could protect these creatures?"

Haru's eyes went wide as if he was shocked from the statement that I had just made. He saw that hope and determination was fighting its way through the despair. A smirk had creaked its way through, on his face.

"Of course we can," he stood proudly while stroking the fur of the creature beside him.

I felt a slight drop of a wet substance trickle down my back, I looked up to the sky to see that the once blue sky had formed a mass cloud of grey. A dark grey in fact. they were ... Rain clouds. Why? Out of all times why the hell did it have to be now?! I mean that neither of us have a place to stay, or even know where to find shelter to take cover so we don't ruin our only pair of clothes. my mind was in a frenzy, not knowing what to do. I was pulled out of my paralyzed state by Haru dragging me with the majestic creatures leading the way towards what seemed like a cave when it had came into view.

3...2...1. And now it was raining, well more like torrential rain. But all I care is that we are now dry and safe from the outside. I sat down near the back of the cave, slowly losing the warmth I had from my surroundings. It started to get colder with each breathing minute. I closed my eyes, counting to 10, trying to take control of my breathing. Fur of different levels and silkiness consumed my body. It was the animals. They were giving me their warmth, it was something that i hadn't felt in ages, not even before their death. I was at peace. This is something to call home. Scratch that, it was home.
