Rosa could hear the buzzing of the social service office around them. Mindless noises that meant nothing to them.

It felt cold here. Serile and impersonal. They'd been here for a couple days now, sleeping in one of the back rooms with a couple other kids their age.

They could hear murmurs about what would happen to them. Their aunt wouldn't take them - Rosa didn't want to stay with her. The woman whose actions had driven Snaps to... do what he did.

So, they'd be put in with a foster family. Maybe something temporary. Maybe something permanent. Rosa didn't want that.

They stood, glancing around to see if anyone noticed. Their eyes trained on their bag, the few possessions that they had in the years they lived with Snaps.

Slowly, they picked up the bag. Their grip tightened against the bag strap. Their eyes darted to the door.

With a sudden motion, Rosa swung their bag across their shoulder and made a run for it.
