|THIRTEEN~ hand shakes are for sissies|
Jelly sat on top of my head, secured by the blanket wrapped on top of him and around my shoulders. I waddled around my new apartment, looking around. Tomorrow was Monday, and I was supposed to go to school with Peter. He said his friend Ned was chill and thought I would like him.
I told him I was scared.
Webs sat clacking away at his keyboard in our room (still with no door, thanks Flower.) working on homework that was due. Since we had to deal with the whole... debacle... he had missed the first week of school. For me. He was so sweet. Flo was in the living room, watching some soap opera she was swooning over. I snagged a banana from the kitchen before going back to join Peter. He gave a soft smile up to me before going back to his work. "I want a post card." I muttered as I peeled my banana, still wrapped in my blanket.
Webs turned in his spinny chair to face me. His head tilted off to the side, soft brown curls falling into his face. "We can get one after school tomorrow. Itll have to be fast because I want to drop you back home with May before I go out."
My eyebrows scrunched together as I frowned. "Go out? Where?"
He tossed his head from side to side as if I should know the answer. "You know. Spider-man duties."
"Heh. Duties." I giggled and took a bite of my banana while he rolled his eyes at me, a smile playing at his lips. "Okay. Just... be safe I guess."
I pulled my bag up onto the bed with me, snagging my laptop from its place. It whirred to life and I immediately called Dee.
"Hi Dad."
"Hey, kid. How's the new place? Ms. Parker treating you well?"
I smiled, pushing my hair back and taking Jelly off my head. "Yeah. Though there seem to be a lack of doors." Peter, who was just finishing up his homework, laughed as he closed his computer and slid to sit beside me. With a hand, he pulled me closer to him and laid his head on my shoulder.
"We all miss you, Runt." Tony peeked over the back of the couch where Dee was sitting to wave and flash us a smile. "Yeah, I miss you guys too. I start school tomorrow. Which is gonna be super weird, because I haven't actually physically been in a school in..."
"Years."
"Yeah. Years."
"You'll do just great. If you need us to beat someone up for you, just call." Dee teased, a smile spread on his face. "Seriously though, I love you."
"Love you too. I'll be back before you know it."
"Send a postcard."
"I always will."
I walked into school that day looking cute and feeling okay since the incident. I don't know who I was trying to impress, but I curled my hair and wore my favorite outfit for my first day.
May had gotten me my own backpack. It was a black silky material, with white roses all along it. I loved it already, and her even more so.
I looped my arm through Peter's as we walked down the hallway. He knew exactly where we were going while I was completely lost.
A girl with jet black hair waved to me as I passed with a smile, a tall boy with curly brown hair scoffed at me, rolling his eyes, the squad of cheerleaders just pointed and laughed as we passed and I stuck my tongue out at them.
"Everyone is very judge-y." I commented, turning my head to mutter to Webkins. My hoop earrings smacked the side of my head which made me smile.
"Yeah, well welcome to high school." He shrugged, letting my arm drop as he opened his locker. "Um, I emailed the principle last night, and he said you're locker is three over from mine."
"Not that it matters, I don't have any books." I held out my open hands and gave an awkward smile to him. He laughed. "I love you." Came a mutter from him and before I was able to reciprocate, a chubby little Philippino guy waddled up to Peter, shoving between us. "Dude dude dude. So I heard that War machines like adopted daughter is coming to school with us! Isn't that so cool?"
I smacked my forehead with a hand and Peter bit back a laugh. "Um hi? Yeah that's me. Cori Rhodes." I gave a soft wave as Web's friend turned to me with wide eyes.
"No. Way!" He smiled and stuck out his hand for me to shake. "I'm Sir Edward Leeds."
"Ned. He's Ned." Peter corrected, coming up to stand beside me.
"Hi Ned. I don't do hand shakes, bud, but..." I smiled and held my hand up and he high fived me, still bewildered that I was that chic.
I giggled as his face and looped my arm through Peters again. He smiled, his face lighting up bright. "Wait a second..." Ned spoke up before some other dimwit marched over.
"Hey Penis Parker. Who's this hottie you've got with you? Oh I see. How much did he have to pay you to be here and be his pretend girlfriend, hun?"
"Flash, seriousl-" Ned started before I pushed my way through people to stand to face him.
"You know, I don't like your guts." I growled to him with a sticky smile. He tried to flash a charming smile back before I slapped him across the face.
Hard.
The entire hall went silent as the sound echoed. Eyes fell on us, and Flash placed a hand on his cheek.
"Hi. Nice to meet you pal. Cori." I gave a flick of my wrist as a wave. "Say something smack like that to my Peter ever again, and I won't be afraid to call the entire Avengers on you." I flipped my phone out to show that I had Tony Stark's phone number, my finger hovering above the call button.
"Any objections?"
My eyes wide in questioning, I glared at him, daring him to say some snark remark. He just stood there, shaking his head. "Um no. I'm I'm I'm uh good. Um."
I smiled, sliding my phone back into my pocket. "Good. Nice meeting you, Flash!" I turned back to Webs and Ned, sliding my hand into Peters and smiling to Ned.
We walked away, the entire school silent and staring.
"You didn't have to do that you know..." Peter whispered to me, but I just smiled and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"I know. But he said something mean to you. I'm over protective. Get it from T."
Ned just walked beside us, eyes wide at what just happened to Flash. "Dude..."
