Devil's Daughter
Mickey's P.O.V
My shaking fist prepared to whack Marcus Bennett in the face. Like always, the early morning sun didn't hurt my eyes at all. My eyes were too strong. I held Marcus's shirt collar. "Don't ever hurt me or my friends again," I hissed.
"Why not? You all deserve it. You're telling me you actually have a heart?" Marcus asked.
"You don't learn your lesson, do you?"
I let go of his collar, giving his head a punch that sent him into the wall. He was out cold. I looked at the speckles of blood on my arms and hands, both his and mine. I thought back to what Marcus said. "You're telling me you actually have a heart?"
I started to cry. No Mickey, don't let that jerk's words get to you.
I thought about all the people I'd hurt over the years.
The words I'd said to the only four who cared for me.
To my secret brother.
He cared.
I didn't deserve it.
"H-hey Billy..?" I approached him as he was chatting to Em Pegg and Tibby.
"Yeah?" he replied.
"I need to chat with you."
He looked into my eyes. "We'll be back," he said to our friends.
"I don't want to take after Dad," I whispered, on the verge of tears.
"And you won't," Billy said reassuringly. "Everything you do, you do it with good intentions. Like Mom."
"Have you seen the stuff I've done to Marcus Bennett? Rachel Juul?"
"Well, yeah-"
"I'm a monster."
"You aren't! Being a child of Heaven and Hell is hard."
"You think I don't know?! We have to tell the other three."
"It's a lot to tell a mortal."
"We are mortals you dimwit. Why are we even on Earth?"
"So that we actually live to rule over everything."
"I want to see Mom again. Maybe... maybe even Dad."
"We hopefully will one day."
"Can we please just tell the others?"
"You're the eldest."
"But I'm mentally unstable."
"So? We'll tell the others after school."
I was anxious for the rest of the day. I always looked up at the sky, silently pleading that Mom, the Queen of the Heavens, would somehow tell me it was all okay. Other than that, classes were like normal. Lunch time, however, gave me a fright.
'You know you're a monster, Mikayla.'
'Just accept it: the Underworld will be yours one day.'
'You will carry my job, your brother will carry your Mother's.'
'I want to see you, you want to see me, we'll make that happen.'
'3am, school library, leave William at home.'
I wasn't going to listen to the voice. Yet it hurt me, the knowledge. I was going to rule over Hell, going to make people miserable. And, like my Father, I was going to enjoy it, whether I wanted to or not.
Skye bit into her taco. She chewed it happily as we walked down the street. Once she'd swallowed, she looked over to Billy and I. "So... you wanted to talk?"
"Somewhere private," Billy replied.
"We'll head to my house?" Tibby suggested. "Mom's working 'till 6 tonight."
"Okay."
"You guys go on ahead, I wanna chat to Billy quickly," I said.
Billy and I stopped walking, and the other three continued on ahead. "What's going on?" Billy asked.
"I've been hearing a deep voice in my head. D-D.. Dad's voice," I stuttered in reply.
"Mickey, don't listen to him."
"He's hitting me with the cold, hard facts. You're going to get Heaven, and I'm stuck with Hell."
'Oh come on, sweetie. It's not that bad.'
I wanted to whack myself in the head so hard to see if it would do anything, but I figured it would be a bad idea. "You can make Hell a better place," Billy shrugged.
"Every other devil said they'd do that. And yet they still fell in love with hurting others. I don't know what to do, Billy."
"There has to be an angel inside of you."
"If there is, she's not very strong."
Billy sighed. "We've still got time to figure it out."
"I don't know about telling the others..."
"You literally said you wanted to in the first place!"
"I know, but..."
"We don't have to."
"Yes we do. Don't worry, just... don't tell them about what'll happen when we inherit Heaven and Hell. What I'll become.."
"Sure, still get to talk a lot, this'll be great."
Billy's P.O.V
Mickey's arm was wrapped around Tibby's shoulders like nothing was wrong. But I knew there were many problems. While we were talking behind Skye, Tibby and Em Pegg, I noticed Mickey's irises flash red, but I didn't want to make her more worked up than she already was, so I didn't tell her about it. She also had this vibe... it sent chills down my spine. We arrived at Tibby's, and we all went to his bedroom. "OKAY DISCUSSION TIME SPILL THE TEA," Skye shouted.
"This tea is about to be... spilled," I smirked.
"Oh, come on, take this seriously, you dimwit," Mickey growled, whacking me in the shoulder really hard. Well, it would've been hard enough to break a human, but not to break me. I punched her back. Her irises flashed red, and she tackled me to the ground. "Touch me again and I'll beat you to a bloody pulp," she hissed quietly.
I stared at her, scared. She realised what she was doing and quickly moved away. "Sorry, sorry... I-I didn't mean to..." she mumbled.
"Yeah nah it's all good," I shrugged. "Okay, so this may be unbelievable, but would Mickey really lie to you?"
"No...?" Em Pegg narrowed her eyes at me.
I took a deep breath and glanced at Mickey, as if to ask 'should we really tell them?' That's when Tibby shakily pointed at me and said, "Billy... you h-have a halo..."
Mickey's P.O.V
He did. And it made me really upset. "It's not fair!" I cried. "Why are you the angel?! You get to do good!"
"Mickey... calm down.." Billy warned.
"CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!" Skye shouted.
'Hell' was like a trigger word. I gave her a deadly glare. Skye stared back at me, no particular emotion showing. Until she started shaking with fear.
"You make a really hot devil," Tibby said.
I saw a small tail flicking around next to me. My devil tail. I sighed. "This is weird, but at least now you'll believe us," I frowned.
"Basically, the Queen of the Heavens and the Lord of the Underworld temporarily hooked up, and conceived two children, Mickey and I. We were sent down to Earth and picked up normal human lives. Our Earth families made a deal with our godly ones that once the time comes, we will be sent to rule over the worlds we inherit. I'm guessing you can tell who'll get what," Billy explained.
"You were siblings the whole time?" Em Pegg asked. "Where did you live before you came here?"
"We were both in Heaven, it was far safer, but when Mickey was three, and Mom saw that she was a demon, she knew it wasn't safe for her in Heaven, so we were sent down here."
I smiled. "And Billy refused to leave me," I said. I soon frowned. "I just hope that that I continue to be good when I do eventually take over the job of Overlord of the Underworld."
I brought my knees up to my chest. "I'm sorry for what I am," I whispered.
"You don't have to apologise," Tibby reassured me. He sat next to me, hugging me and giving ne a kiss on the top of my head. "It's not your fault you are what you are. I still love you."
"You're still a great person," Skye shrugged.
I couldn't bear telling them about the real creature I'd become.
I didn't go to see Satan that night. I woke up the next morning, doing my regular routine and heading to school. I felt a click inside of me. As I shut the door of the apartment, a man walked past. He made eye contact with me. Immediately, two words started to scream in my head. HUMAN BLOOD.
I went ballistic. I grabbed his hands and twisted them behind his back. He tried to wriggle out of my grip, demanding that I let him go. With all my strength, holding his arms still, I kicked his back, ripping his arms off. I threw the arms on the ground and forced my hand into his chest, tearing out his heart. He died instantly.
I ran. I ran out of the complex, still a little short of full control, feeling that urge to hurt humans. I shoved several people, feeling a flurry of fire in my heart every time they screamed in surprise or anger. I arrived at school, somehow managing to not make eye contact with anyone. I hoped and prayed Billy was there. Thankfully, he was, and on his own too. "Billy," I said as I approached our secret spot, looking to the ground.
"What?" he replied. "What are you-"
"I'm going to make eye contact with you. Be prepared to fight me if I..."
"Okay...?"
I looked up. Billy looked shocked for a split second, but thankfully, nothing happened. "What's going on? Your eyes... you're covered in blood!"
"I made eye contact with some dude for a split second and I lost it."
"What do we do then?!"
"I don't know! We are living in a world of humans, and here I am with an urge to kill them all!"
'You can't stop your demon reflexes.'
'The Overworld is no place for a demon like you. No place for a daughter of mine. You deserve better, and you know it.'
"Billy..." I felt the tears coming on. "I'm a fricking MONSTER!!"
"We'll... we'll sort it out. But for now.." Billy took off his scarf and wrapped it around my eyes. "Hopefully this will do the trick."
Tibby arrived. "What's with the scarf? And the blood?" he asked. He looked scared.
I sighed. "Would you... risk your life? For me?" I frowned.
"Why?"
"I want you to look into my eyes. And... I may go ballistic, I may try to kill you, but Billy is here to protect you. If... if he can't.."
"Um..."
"Please? I know if I do harm you, you won't take it harshly." I took Tibby's hand and kissed it. "You know I love you..."
"If it must be done.."
Billy stood in front of Tibby. I slowly slipped the scarf off my eyes. Tibby and I made eye contact.
Billy's P.O.V
Mickey hissed and tried to leap towards Tibby. I didn't know what to do, but in a split second, something in my brain clicked and I tackled her to the ground. "Tibby, go!" I exclaimed.
Tibby didn't need to be told twice. He disappeared around a corner. I struggled to force Mickey into looking straight into my eyes. Her eyes were blood red, and her devil features had popped out. It upset me to see her in this state. "Mickey, come on, get back that control!" I begged as my eyes were locked on her's.
Slowly, she began to calm. She stopped tackling me. She took a deep breath. Her wings disappeared. Her horns and tail were invisible. And finally, her red eyes faded back to their nice hazel colour. I shoved the scarf back into her hands. "Put it on," I demanded.
She quickly tied it around her eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sor-" she began repeating.
I held up a hand, and she stopped. "Don't apologise. It's not like you can help it."
By the way she spoke, I could tell she was starting to cry. "I hate myself..."
Mickey avoided any humans she could that day. She wouldn't even sit with the group for lunch. "What's up with Mickey?" Skye asked.
I sighed and looked over at her sitting on her own, hissing whenever someone came by and laughed at her. "She had a bit of an... incident this morning. We found out that she tries -and probably mostly succeeds- to kill humans when making eye contact with them," I explained. "She's... scared she'll hurt you."
"Is... is she... is she evil? Does she want... deep down, I mean, to harm us?"
"Even if she tries to fight it, she'll weaken eventually. She'll lose that strength to fight off the darkness crawling over her heart. I don't know how long she'll last. What... what she'll turn into."
Mickey's P.O.V
'Don't think a scarf can stop you becoming who you really are.'
'Take it off.'
'The humans cause pain.'
'Why shouldn't you do the same?'
The voice was loud.
'Come home.'
'We can rule. You can rule. Hell can be yours.'
'Don't fret about William. He is bound to be your enemy.'
'and maybe bring a boy because i ship mibby— I MEAN so that our bloodline shall carry on.'
Tibby wouldn't do that for me. I'm not worth that much to him.
'Do whatever it takes to bring him down here.'
'I've longed to see you, my child.'
'Just come see your father.'
The voice almost sounded... sad.
'You aren't made to belong on Earth.'
'You're my little monster, nothing can change that.'
'Your soul is dark.'
'You're pure evil.'
The voice was right.
"I'm going to Hell," I said when I got home.
My Earth father looked at me. "Already?"
'Give the man sympathy. He raised you, kept you safe.'
'He's one of the few you can give mercy to.'
"I just... my demon's really showing... a-and..." I stuttered.
"No no, it's okay, I... I mean I don't understand..." He came over and hugged me. "I'll miss you Mickey."
"I'll try and contact you."
"Don't forget me."
I pulled a picture of him from my bag I packed a few nights ago. You know, just in case this situation played out. "I won't. You're the one thing that isn't black in my heart."
"I'll miss you. Be strong, and enjoy harming others. Oh and take my gun because that's responsible."
His gun appeared in his hands and he gave it to me. "Ah sweet thanks," I smiled. "I love you."
"I love you too. Goodbye."
I waved before walking out the door.
A portal appeared in the ground, red and ominous.
'Jump in.'
I jumped in.
The place was on fire. I could hear screams of pain. It made me grin. I pulled the scarf off. I heard a voice from behind me. "Why hello there princess.."
Satan himself stood there. My Father. I chuckled. "I never thought I'd be here." I started to laugh. "FINALLY! I can be myself! I can do whatever I want! Oh, the power!"
Father laughed along with me. Soon he stopped. "Where's the boy?"
"I've got a plan." I giggled again. "Oh this is gonna be fun..."
