Blood in the Forest
Tibby's P.O.V
I hated Billy for this stupid dare.
Alone. Alone I was, alone in the forest rumoured to have monsters amongst its flora.
It was dark, and I was shaking. Billy totally should've come. At least then I wouldn't die alone.
I looked around at the black that surrounded me. The slightest sound made me jump. I heard the howling of wolves at the full moon. I was able to catch a glimpse of it through the trees towering above. It was blood red.
That began to make me panic. Blood moons make monsters go insane. I really was gonna die out here. I figured I'd gone into the eerie silence enough and turned to head back. Only, I could no longer see a path. My torchlight was dim. The owls started to hoot. The howling got louder. I could hear crickets, and the buzzing of other insects. Above all, however, I heard a woosh. A darker-than-dark silhouette flew past me. I screamed.
My breathing was heavy, yet I still struggled to get the air through my lungs. Tears pricked my eyes as I collapsed into a shaking heap on the ground, saying repeatedly, "I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die..."
"Scared ya," said a voice from above me.
I looked up. I felt a poke on my head, and I could see a bit better. I saw a girl. Her blonde hair was a mess, her brown eyes glowing, a torn beanie sat atop her head, and she was incredibly pale. Her green shirt was covered in mud, and a red flannel was clinging on for dear life around her waist, preparing to slip off at any moment. What surprised me most was that she was human. "Who... who are you?" I asked.
"You don't need to know. Come with me."
I caught her eye, and although I didn't want to follow her, I felt I had to anyway. She was like a magnet, I couldn't bring myself to leave her side. I'd do anything to protect her. Nothing mattered anymore. Nothing but her.
Her cabin smelt like dead bodies, and I immediately dove for the door. The girl suddenly stood there. "No, no, no, you aren't going anywhere," she hissed, giving me a glare that could kill.
"I'm sorry, but... what's with the smell?" I asked.
"You don't need to worry about it, mister. Now, why are you out here? You hungry? Thirsty? Tired? Single?"
"What?"
"Nothing, ahem. Do you need anything?"
"What time is it?"
"The best time of night."
"No like, in numbers. Like a clock."
"Oh. It's currently 3:09am."
Just hearing that made me tired. "Mind if I stay here the night?"
"Not at all."
I woke up to the smell of corpses being so much stronger. "Ugh... my head..." I mumbled as I stood up.
I walked around to find the girl. The cabin was fairly small, although it had a very dark vibe. I saw a staircase heading down. A scream came from below.
I immediately ran down. What if it was the girl that so kindly took me in? The stairs lead to a door that I pushed open. There was no-one there. Confused, I cautiously took one step into the room. Two. Three. Still, I saw only an empty room. But there was another door. I slowly and quietly made my way over. I twisted the handle and opened it. The smell inside was disgusting. I peeked in to see a pile of dead bodies.
I recognised one of them. Mike Hunt. He went missing a few months ago, gone without a trace. And here he was, his eyes rolled into the back of his head and his skin blue like the clear sunny skies. A pair of cold arms wrapped around my waist and I was thrown away from the door. I heard a slam. I sat up to see a girl who looked just like the one who allowed me to stay the night. Only her hair was black, and her eyes were blood red. A single streak of blood trickled down from the corner of her mouth to the bottom of her chin.
"What the Hell?" I exclaimed, scrambling up for the door.
I got over to it. It was locked. "You shouldn't be down here. It's rude to go around someone's house like that, you know," the girl growled. She sounded just like the one from last night.
"This is your house?"
"Yes, I took you in."
"Who... what is THAT?! WHY ARE THERE BODIES DOWN HERE?!" I pointed at the door to the room of bodies.
"To satisfy my thirst."
"Your... thirst?"
"For blood."
She grinned, revealing blood-coated fangs.
I was in the same room as a vampire.
"Please... don't kill me..." I stammered.
She strolled over to me. She booped my nose. "I wouldn't kill someone as adorable as you."
"We don't even know each other!"
"I know all about you, Tibby."
"Tell me who the frick you are, please!"
"I would, but... but then you'd try to kill me."
"Stop this and please just tell me!"
"Okay fine, you asked for it. I am Mikayla Jones."
Mikayla Jones. Mikayla Jones. Mikayla Jones. The deadliest vampire in history, slaying those who crossed over into her territory for over 100 years. Her father was killed by vampire slayers, but Mikayla got away.
She hated humans with the passion of a thousand suns.
She knew I was a human.
Yet she called me adorable.
"I've always been scared I'd run into you. But...but I've always admired you for the way you defended yourself when your Dad died. And then you carried on to live without bothering those who didn't deserve pain. Still... I'd really like to go home."
"Don't leave me here." Mikayla wrapped an arm around my shoulders.
"Mikayla please... I want to see my mother, she'd be worried sick."
"Call me Mickey."
"Mickey, then. Just let me go."
"I'm not being left alone here again! I've had no-one to talk to for over 100 years. And now that you're here, you just wanna ditch me? Allow me to be trapped in my own nightmares? No friends, just cursed to kill a race that- actually nah, many humans deserve it. Those bodies... I brought them here, alive, to befriend. But they turned on me, so... so I drank their blood. I don't want you to have that fate!"
"Why do you have to live out here?"
"Because my Dad did."
"Oh... well, if you let me go, I'll come back as soon as I let my Mom know I'm okay."
Mickey stared at me for a while before letting me go. "I'll... get you home."
She clicked your fingers. I was back in Kollok.
Mickey's P.O.V
He. Fricking. Lied. He was 16 now, two years ago he promised he'd be back. He forgot about me. I was alone. Alone with only those I killed. I hated that I liked harming those who didn't deserve it.
There he was: Tibby Devin. He was back in the woods. But he brought a friend, Billy Baker I'd assume. I was going to go to him in a friendly way, but I decided to mess with him a little. In my shadow form, I bounced over to them. I stood behind them, hearing their conversation. "I know she's out here," Tibby said.
"Dude, you waited TWO YEARS to tell me that you came close to getting YOUR BLOOD SUCKED OUT OF YOU?!" Billy exclaimed.
I shoved Billy to the ground. "Um... you alright?" Tibby asked, helping him up.
"Yeah... I think I tripped over something," Billy replied.
I span around them. They could see me now in their torchlight. They stood a bit closer together. I smiled and poked the back of Tibby's neck. He cringed. "Wh-what... who's there?!" he shakily demanded.
I chuckled. He obviously heard it. He was scared still. I leaned in to his ear and whispered, "Hi there, mister..."
Tibby's P.O.V
A shiver trickled down my spine. I knew the voice. I squeezed my eyes shut. No, no, why did I come out here?! Billy yelped, "Tibby! Tibby... behind you!"
There stood the vampire herself. "Why didn't you come visit me?" Mickey frowned.
"Things... things got busy," I shrugged.
"You don't hate me, do you?"
"No! Of course not!"
"Good. Now you and Billy can come over to my house."
It smelled just the same as it did a couple years ago. Billy gagged. "What's that smell?" he asked.
"Dead bodies," Mickey replied like it was nothing. She sat down next to me with a cup of blood. She swished it around. "Provoke me and you'll be one of them."
Billy shut his mouth. Mickey took a sip of the blood in her cup. "So... there has been a reason I never visited," I mumbled.
Mickey heard it. She turned her head to me. "Tell me."
"I... I might cry..."
"I'm here."
"Okay... well... my Mom... she was really sick. I was the only one she had in the world, so... so I wanted to spend all the time I could with her. A few weeks ago, she... she p-p-p..." I burst into tears. I felt Mickey's arms around me. They were cold, yet provided a loving warmth. "She didn't deserve to die the way she did... she r-raised me on her own..."
"I know it's hard. We all know what happened to my Dad," she reassured me. "But we can't change what happened. Where have you been living?"
"With me," Billy replied. "We've been spending as much time as possible out of the house, my siblings don't exactly like him..."
"I've been alone for the past 160 years. I've only ever experienced people fearing me. Not... not this care."
I looked at Mickey for a moment. She was beautiful. She was caring. But she also wasn't afraid to hurt those who hurt her first. I suddenly realised it.
I loved her.
Mickey's P.O.V
I smirked at Tibby as he stared into my eyes. He had that look of love in his eyes. I knew he was crushing on me. "Um... I can let you two have your moment?" Billy said awkwardly.
"Go into another room," I ordered, my gaze not shifting from Tibby.
Billy shuffled over into the kitchen. "WOO! CHEETOS!!" he shouted after finding my stash of Cheetos.
I pulled Tibby closer to me and kissed his on the lips. Our faces were merely inches apart when we pulled away. "I missed you, Tibby," I whispered.
"I want... I want to be like you..." he said quietly.
I giggled. "Oh, do you now?"
My hand traced up his arm, around to his neck and stopped at the back of his head. I gazed at his neck and licked my lips. "You look delicious," I breathed with a smirk.
Tibby's face was very pink. "You can't go back from this," I warned him.
"What have I go to lose?" he shrugged with a smile. "Do it."
I leaned in and kissed his neck. I pulled him to the ground. "Oh you cutie," I said before kissing his neck once more.
"Do it alreadyyyy!!" Tibby moaned.
One more kiss. Then I went in for the bite.
His blood gushed into my mouth. The sweet taste of iron always satisfied me. His squeaks and winces of pain made me keep going. Finally, his skin turned ice cold and I pulled away. He was still bleeding, but he was transforming. He cried into his hands until he shouted in pain. He collapsed.
Billy ran in. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!" he shouted.
"Ssh, you'll wake him up. Toss over a bag of cheetos."
Knowing full-well how dangerous I could be, Billy did as he was asked. I gestured for him to come over to unconscious Tibby and I. "He wanted to be a vampire, so I granted his wish. He'll wake up in a minute, his brain and nerves are just rewiring themselves to give him vampire thoughts, feelings and reflexes," I explained, running my hands through Tibby's hair.
Billy remained silent.
Tibby slowly woke up and sat up. His eyes were blood red, his hair a coal black. "My mouth feels weird," he said.
I tackled him back down with a hug. "You're a vampire!" I exclaimed.
He pulled me by the shirt down to kiss me on the lips. "I love you Tibby," I said.
"I love you too Mickey," he told me.
Now he would never leave me.
Ever.
