86|"We Can Be Friends."
<Skyler's POV>
Four months later, two weeks before Christmas.
Dallas presses his lips hard to mine, his hand on my thigh, holding it up to his hip. My arms are wrapped firmly around his neck, pulling him closer to me. Finally all the kids fell asleep and Johnny is spending the night at Steve's, leaving plenty of time for this. Dallas slides his tongue into my mouth, knowing every centimeter of it, but re-exploring it anyways. I fumble as I tug his shirt over his head. My hand runs down his now bare torso. A smile plays on my lips as we kiss. "I miss this, I miss you," I say. He furrows his eyebrows.
"Miss me? I see you everyday," he states. I scoff a little.
"You're always at Steve's place, I see you in the morning and then when we get to bed, never in between, and when your not at Steve's you are working," I exclaim, the sexual tension completely gone. Dallas sighs.
"I'm just working a lot to pay off the hospital bills," Dallas states, trying and failing to not be agitated. I sigh and my face falls.
"You're right, it's my own damn fault," I whisper. Dallas shakes his head frantically.
"That's not what I meant and you know it," Dallas assures me.
"Disregarding the time you're working, why are you always at Steve's?" I ask angrily. Dallas runs a hand violently through his hair.
"I'm just hanging out with him," Dallas lies. I roll my eyes.
"Dallas I fucking called the DX, Steve has been working everyday for the past week, so that means you've been at his place, alone with Lena, because Johnny for the past five days has been here helping me out with the kids," I snarl. Dallas rubs his faces and grinds his teeth.
"You don't know that I've been alone with her, Two-Bit lives there too!" Dallas yells. I roll my eyes, infuriated.
"Two-Bit has been here and at Darry's place! He wanted Henry to really get to know the other kids!" I scream. Dallas looks at me sorrowfully.
"Skyler-"
"Have you been fucking one of my best friends who also so happens to be your friend's girlfriend?!" I exclaim, my arms strong at my sides.
"Skyler no, I love-"
"I don't want to hear it Dallas! I never see you anymore and when I do I'm half asleep or stuck with the kids!" I yell in his face. Dallas raises his eyebrows.
"Stuck with the kids? Oh gosh Skyler, I'm so sorry you have been stuck with our children! Jesus Sky, try not to be such a bitch!" Dallas spits out in a wisp of fury.
"Don't change the subject Dally! I can't fucking believe you!" I scream, my eyes baring into his own. Storming out of the room, I head into the nursery and start to grab Aiden out of his crib. Dallas sprints in after me.
"Skyler you are not taking my kids!"
"Why? They don't need a cheating bastard as a father!" I blare, whipping around to see him. I softly place Aiden and Shai quickly into my double baby carrier, holding onto the handle of the carrier tightly. My other arm scoops up Tibby. I storm past Dallas, out of the nursery.
"Skyler! Skyler Elizabeth stop! You can't take my fucking kids from me! Don't take them from me! Please!" Dallas scream at me as I pace quickly out onto the streets of Tulsa in the dark of night, the only light coming from the Christmas decorations that only seem sad on this cold night. The wind whips around me harshly. My feet carry me quickly towards the obvious place to go. The twins cry, but Tibby remains half asleep in my clutch.
How could Dallas cheat on me? How could Lena sleep with my life partner? How do I tell Steve? The tears stream hit down my red cheeks as I practically sprint to the Curtis's house. My entire body is shaking out of some unknown feeling. Betrayal. Betrayal from the person I trusted most in this cruel fucking world.
Upon arriving at the Curtis's house, I find all the lights are still on inside. For the first time in forever, I knock on the door instead of just walking in. A few moments later, Soda opens the door, a smile on his face. His lips turn down into a frown at the sight of me. "Skyler? What happened? Where's Dally?" Chris appears behind Soda, worry etched onto her face.
"Can I just come inside, the kids... they're freezing," I tell them sadly. Soda opens the door wide and I shuffle into the house.
"I'll bring them upstairs, Josh and Wesley just went to sleep," Chris offers, taking my kids. I frown.
"I didn't wake them did I?" I ask worried that I screwed something else up. Chris smiles sadly.
"No Sky, you're good," Chris assures me, walking slowly upstairs. I take one look at Soda and start crying again. He wraps his arms around me, rubbing my back soothingly.
"Hey Skyler, what's wrong? Talk to me," Soda says kindly. We sit on the couch, our hands clasped.
"I am almost positive Dallas cheated on me, and it's with someone you and I are very close to," I inform Soda, tears pouring from my eyes as I speak the words I dread. Soda's face hardens.
"Who Skyler?" I stay silent, but Soda pushes on. "Skyler who?" I take a deep breath.
"Lena." Soda's face falls and he shakes his head.
"You're wrong, he wouldn't do something like that to Steve, and Lena wouldn't do that to you, this has been all blown out of proportion," Soda assures me. I close my eyes a moment before continuing.
"Even if that's true, we said some stuff tonight that changed some things, I don't think this whole life partner ceremony is going to happen," I say disdainfully. Soda furrows his eyebrows.
"What was said, if that's not to much to ask," Soda quickly replies.
"Basically he called me a bitch and in the spur of the moment I said I was stuck with the kids," I say remorsefully. Soda sucks in a breath of air and raises his eyebrows. I almost giggle.
"Ya, I'm a horrible mom huh?" I ask rhetorically. Soda shakes his head.
"Nah, all us parents feel that way deep deep down," Soda jokes. Forcing a smile, I then yawn. "You're tired, I'll sleep on the couch, you go sleep with Chris in the bed upstairs. I smile and kiss Soda's cheek.
"Thank you Soda, I love you."
"Love you too Skyler, now go get some sleep, but don't wake Darry, work was long for him today," Soda informs me. With a slight smile, I nod, but as soon as I turn around, the phony smirk fades away and emptiness returns.
----------------------------
I wake up to Chris holding Aiden by the window, whispering a song to him. Half asleep, I listen to her soft voice and watch her silhouette in the morning sunlight. Soon, I recognize the song as While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Chris had told me awhile ago that it was the only Beatles song that she ever enjoyed. Aiden looks up at his aunt with honey eyes. I can't help but stare at the pair. Chris's waves tickle Aiden's neck and he tries I smile, but since he is only shy of six months old it is hard for him. Eventually I sit up and Chris looks at me with a small smile as I walk over to her. "Little fire woke up early," Chris tells me. I smirk and rub his little head.
"He always does, Dallas usually takes him outside when he does," I say sadly. Chris frowns.
"Soda told me what happened, I'm sure this will all blow over Skyler," Chris assures me. I force a smile and look at Josh and Tibby, fast asleep in a shared crib. They are so comfortable together, I cannot wait to see what they grow up to be as cousins. Shailene is still sleeping next to Wesley, the pair of them cute as could be in the morning sunlight.
"We were supposed to get out Christmas tree today," I state. Chris frowns.
"Don't let Christmas be ruined, go and talk to Dallas today, fix this as much as possible and then make Christmas perfect for your kids because in the end they are the most important," Chris demands. I nod my head.
"You are one hundred percent right Chris, really you are. Do you mind if I leave the kids here while I run and talk this out with him?" I ask if Chris. Chris bites her lip as she looks past me, to the doorway. I turn around and see Dallas, six feet tall, dark hair, and chocolate eyes, standing in the doorframe, a disheveled mess. He stares straight at me. Chris places Aiden softly down in the crib before walking to the doorway, she smiles at her big brother, then walks downstairs. Awkwardly, I sit on the edge of the bed and pat the spot next to me. Dallas sighs and joins me, almost hesitantly.
"So..." Dallas starts, his hands clasped tightly together in his lap. With an exaggerated sigh, I get the conversation going.
"Did you cheat? Just give me a straight answer, just do it for the kids," I demand. Dallas immediately answers.
"No Skyler, I did not cheat on you and most certainly not with my friends girlfriend," Dallas reassures me. "Do you really feel like you are stuck with our children?" I sigh and shake my head regretfully.
"Of course not," I reply simply. Dallas nods slowly, processing my words. "What are we Dallas?" He looks at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"In two weeks it will of been a year since I asked you to be my life partner, nothing has changed since then, you are still my partner for li-"
"No, something has changed, I think I want to get married," I spout out, interrupting him completely. Dallas looks at me with wide eyes.
"Married?"
"Yes Dallas, husband, wife, the whole thing, what we have now just feels unfinished," I tell him honestly. Dallas lets go of the breath he was holding.
"While I highly appreciate your honesty, you know I can't do that," Dallas reminds me. I bite my lip.
"I think we should take a break so we each get to experience what life would be without each other, maybe then you would see that marriage is the right option for us." Upon hearing what I have to say, Dallas holds his breath yet again. I wait for his response patiently.
"I strongly, one hundred percent, think that this is the worst idea ever, however, if it's what you want, then I say go for it," Dallas replies. I look at Dallas Winston and smile, placing my hand on his.
"I swear this will be good, we can be friends, friends who need to get their kids a Christmas tree..."
