34|"Don't Hate Me."

<Chris's POV>

The smell of fluffy pancakes fills my nose and makes my stomach growl as a million thoughts run through my head. Last night was not good at all. Skyler was really mean, but then again I didn't really have a halo over my head. Hopefully we can make up soon and forget the argument ever happened.

I sit down next to my family at the oak table. We chew quietly until Soda speaks up. "So Steve and I leave tomorrow, and I wanted to discuss the baby situation since I won't be back for the birth," Soda explains. My shoulders slump an my heart drops.

"Well I can take care of myself," I comment confidently.

"I know but we need to talk about names and stuff," Soda explains. I sigh.

"Can we talk about it later," I request. I'm not in the mood because of my disagreement with Skyler. Being mad at her is not something I like. At that second, strong arms come from behind me and lift me out of my chair.

"Hi girlie," the voice yells. I recognize that the voice belongs to Dally.

"Put me down you Neanderthal," I say playfully. Dally places my feet on the ground and the I see a flash of black hair. Soon after Skyler's arms are around me and she is mumbling sorry over and over in my ear. "It's fine Skyler, we both said things we didn't mean."

"Can we just forget about it and maybe talk about the baby?" She asks desperately. I nod my head and then Skyler and Dally join us at the table.

"Before we say anything I want to clarify, you really are pregnant?" Dally asks stupidly.

"Yes Dallas, I'm pregnant," I answer matter of factly.

"So that means you and Soda-"

"Oh my god Dallas don't bring it up!" I scream and run out of the room.

<Dally's POV>

"Oh now you've done it!" Skyler yells playfully then walks after Chris yelling crazily that I don't know any better.

"So now that that's over, what do you think the gender is?" I ask. Soda smirks.

"Girl."

"Wrong, it's going to be a boy," I say confidently.

"Oh really? And how would Dallas Winston know this?" Soda asks.

"Because I don't like little kids but I may hate the kid less if it were a boy and Dallas Winston always gets what he wants," I justify. Soda looks at me with that stupid smile of his.

"You aren't going to hate my child," he says. Darry and Pony walk to the living room, away from our conversation.

"Oh I'm not?"

"No because when that baby is born, it'll look a little like me and you'll think hey this baby looks like my friend who is risking his life in Vietnam and not to mention is will look like Chris to, and you love your baby sister," Soda tries to explain.

"You forgot someone... Delilah, I expect the baby will look a little like her considering she is Chris and I's mom," I say glumly. Soda puts his hand on my shoulder and his smile fades leaving Soda's face naked.

"Dally, I can honestly say I hope our child looks like Delilah, I know how much your mother meant to you." After Soda says this I grab his back and pull him in for a hug as tears surface in my eyes. Two more sets of hand touch my shoulders and there is Chris and Skyker right there to comfort me just like I knew they would be, because that's what we do.

"Hey let's not be upset, let's actually talk about baby names," Skyler says trying to lighten the mood.

After a half an hour of discussing names we come up with two that we love. "Okay so Josh if it's a boy and Talia Delilah if it's a girl," Christina clarifies. We nod our heads an then the front door opens with a bang.

"Your lives just got better!" Two-Bit yells as he walks through the door with Steve and Johnny behind him.

"How is that possible if you're still here," Steve says laughing at his own joke. Two tries desperately to tackle Steve but with Steve's military training the situation becomes hard. Eventually Kieth surrenders and we laugh at his misfortune. Once everyone has calmed down Chris holds Soda's hand.

"So how about Josh for a boy and Talia for a girl?" Chris asks. The gang shouts their approval.

"I can see it now, Uncle Steve holding his little niece or nephew," Steve says in admiration. Soda looks at Steve glumly.

"Uh buddy, we won't be back when the baby is born."

"Oh right." After the mood has become glum Skyler steps up and tries to make everyone a little happier.

"Well it's still a blessing that your having a baby," she says smiling. Steve smirks slightly.

"Hate to mention this, but you have that blessing to," Steve remarks. Uh oh, This won't end well. Skyler clenches her fists.

"Thank you Steve for reminding me that-"

"Golly isn't it nice out, how bout we go out to lunch, a picnic rather," I interrupt while pushing an angry Skyler behind me.

"Great idea," Johnny says, pulling Darry to the kitchen to get some food.

<Chris's POV>

Darry throws a bunch of food in the basket and then Steve and Two-Bit make an effort to grab as much beer as possible. I continue to hold Soda's hand as we step out of the door into the warm outside where quiet growls from car engines pass by occasionally. My hand doesn't leave Soda even as we walk down the sidewalks of Tulsa. Some people stare at us. I don't whether it's because we are such a big group or because Steve just did a backflip off of a random car. Either way I don't really care, none of us do because we are just reckless greasers and hey, I'm okay with that.

When we make it to the lot it's about 12:00 and the Suns rays melt into me like warm chocolate. My hand flicks my hair out of my face. Soda sits next to the basket that Darry set down on the pavement and I sit on his lap. Soda's arms wrap around me as everyone starts to get comfortable.

Food is emptied from the basket along with the booze. the sound of beer bottles popping open fills my ears and I watch everyone drink. I long to have a drink myself, but it's not healthy in my condition. Skyler and Soda don't drink either. Soda because he doesn't need to drink to be drunk and Skyler is pregnant also.

<Skyler's POV>

I take the cigarette and lighter from my pocket. Putting the cigarette in Dally's mouth I light it and the tip of the stick lights up in little glowing embers. Dally takes a drag and flicks the cigarette unceremoniously. The movement is so swift for the has had many years of practice. Before he can make a smoke ring I kiss him and I practically taste the cigarette in my own mouth as my tongue explores Dally's mouth.

I pull away slowly then turn to look at everyone else. Darry is sitting on the ground reading his nespaper he brought with Pony and Johnny beside him eating some food and talking.

Chris and Soda are sitting together giggling together about topics I probably will never know about. Every once in a while they both glance up to see everyone else and talk with Steve.

Speaking of Steve, he and Two-Bit are currently having a drinking competition. They both keep picking up more bottles and chugging. With a large gagging sound Two-Bit bends over and throws up everything he just drank. Everyone starts laughing at him in a chorus of different pitched giggles. Slowly I make my way to Steve. "Nice job," I mumble happily.

"Why thank you Miss Skyler," Steve says with a slight bow.

"Maybe you should go brag to your best friends," I say pointing to Chris and Soda who are now watching the action.

"I think I will."

"Before you do..." I take my hand back and then slap Steve as hard as I can.

"What was that for?"

"You know what that was for!" We stand glaring at each other seriously and then can't take it anymore and burst into chuckles. Soon everyone nervously joins in.

The laughter itself is amusing enough to the point where it continues deep into the night when the sky is dotted with tiny shards of shimmering glass upon a midnight black blanket. We sit in a small circle around a minuscule fire Johnny lite with leaves and twigs and my lighter. "Alright guys, Steve and I should go home and get some sleep, we leave tomorrow," Soda announces. Chris sags her shoulders and Pony pouts.

"Please stay, you can sleep tomorrow on the way there," Ponyboy begs. With a convincing pout from Pony, Soda gives in to the wanting of his little brother.

"Okay well what do you want to do?" Dally asks. "I can only talk normally for so long."

"Let's play a game," Steve requests.

"We could play truth or dare, Pony and I play it sometimes," Johnny suggests.

"Sounds great buddy, go ahead," Dally tells Johnny.

"Darry truth or dare?" Johnny asks. Darry doesn't hesitate a bit.

"Truth."

"Do you ever wanna find a girl?"

"No, my only concern is the safety of my brothers," Darry says. The irony in his statement is immense. His main concern is the safety of Soda and Pony, yet Soda is in the war. Pony and Soda smile at Darry and then Darrel asks Chris. "Chris, truth or dare?"

I see Chris hesitate a bit. I'm assuming she wants to be brave and pick dare, but then again, choosing truth is risky and takes guts. "Truth."

"What do you want the gender of the baby to be," Darry asks.

"Girl," she says smiling a bit in Soda's lap. "Steve truth or dare?" Chris asks. Steve smirks and bares his ugly teeth at the whole group.

"Dare," he answers. I roll my eyes at his need to be daring.

"Kiss one person in this circle," Chris says smiling mischievously. I stifle a giggle then realize something. There are only two girls in this circle; me and Christina. I sigh and become anxious. If Steve kisses me he'll die before he can even fight in battle.

Steve's face falls and even he becomes nervous. With shakes hands Steve quickly kisses Pony, obviously the most vulnerable of the gang. Ponyboy pushes him off. "Ew you behemoth," he shouts in disgust. I can't hold in my laughter anymore and suddenly there is a chorus of laughter in all different pitches. The youngest Curtis' face turns bright red and Steve shrugs his shoulders. Once everyone has stopped laughing we finally get back to the game.

Steve looks around at all of us, trying to choose who he should ask the question to. His eyes fixate on mine and his face goes from happy to dead serious. Why is he so serious all the sudden? The expression change make me more anxious then nervous actually. "Skyler, truth or dare?"

I look right back at Steve and answer, "truth." With lack of emotion Steve asks me the question.

"Do you want to keep the baby?" I freeze, "and you have to tell the truth." I'm screwed, the secret I even kept from myself is about to be revealed and it's going to ruin everything. I take a deep breath an look at everyone around me. Dallas is the most anxious. His eyes burn the side of my head as he awaits my answer.

"Yes, I do want to keep the baby." Silence. The silence is so loud that it deafens me. ringing noses fill my ears. It seems impossible for the silence to be broken, until and angry boyfriend changes my thoughts.

"What?" Dally asks in disgust. I turn to Dally and gain confidence.

"Dally I know you'll hate me, but this is what I want," I say with tears forming in my eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asks hurt. We all stand up alarmed.

"I couldn't do that to you," I say, desperately trying to save our relationship.

"I have to go," he says calmly as he begins to walk away.

"Wait Dallas!" I yell running after him. Once I reach him he turns around and we embrace in a kiss. Dally grasps the small of my back while we kiss, then pulls away.

"Don't hate me," I beg as my head presses against his chest. I hold him tight to me, never intending to let go.

"I could never hate you," he says and then pulls away from me. The lack of his presences making me cold. He doesn't stop walking away and I don't walk towards him.

My heart is broken. I am shocked and I have lost my love once again.

A/N OUCH.

did you catch the teen wolf reference? I'll give you a hint, Chris says it. If you did explain in the comments... anyways... WHAT DO YOU THINK DALLY IS DOING? He seemed so calm and not angry so what's going on?

Well you'll just have to wait. Sorry my spoons.

Stay gold💛
