Chapter 16: Captain Levi's Plan

Finally arriving to see Captain Levi, he looked just as uncomfortable as you. His usual stern face, but this time, he seemed unsettling. You didn't know what- but whatever bothered the captain's mind, it wasn't good. Vaguely, you think there was a time when he acted this way... perhaps it was when Hanji had lost her eye. Or when she had that close call with a titan back when expeditions were a thing.

"Finally," he scoffs as he walked down from the steps of HQ, "couldn't take longer?"

"We had some difficulties." The Scout responded for you; not a word of Sasha was mentioned. "I shall take my leave then."

Left in the hands of Captain Levi, there was this aura surrounding him. He then led you inside, walking down to the dungeons. "You guys took awhile coming back- what difficulties did you guys have?"

"I..." You began to confess, but you waved it off. It was your life, after all. Your love for Sasha was meant to be private for only you unless it was time to show it off. "It doesn't matter, Captain. What did you need me for?"

He remains silent, scoffing a bit as the boots clattered against the stone floors. "Commander Hanji had a few theories about you and Sasha- I've learned to trust a few of her theories. Is it true?"

"Does it matter?"

"Perhaps," the captain responded, "after all, it might take weeks or so with the new mission."

"What is this mission, anyways, Captain?"

"We're keeping an eye on Zeke Jaeger, of course. I know you don't drink alcohol, so hopefully I'll have a mature guy on my side. Completely sober as well. Keeping the Jaegers away as Sasha is with Eren."

"She's... with him...?"

"Worried now, (y/n)?" Captain Levi stopped in his tracks, not bothering to look back at you. Because of his sudden stop, you nearly fell into him. "Listen here, (y/n), if you want to go back to Sasha, then heed my instructions carefully. Follow what I say, is that understood?"

You nodded, chuckling softly of the nostalgic memory. "Just like the expeditions..."

"Ah, yes... the expeditions. At least those times were simple compared to now. Kill titans, kill titans, regain the wall. Try to survive."

"Do you miss those times, Captain?"

Finally, it got him to turn around. Those piercing silver eyes of his stared down right into your soul. "It depends, (y/n), because there are pros and cons to everything. With expeditions, yes, everything was simple. But we still lost dozens of people per expedition. Now, we're gaining more people with less casualties, but everything's more complex."

Seeing that he was getting off track, Levi scowled and started walking again.

"We can't choose what happens, now. At least we're around the endgame. Maybe you can be like brats and have a family once more. Hopefully we'll be able to live freely. Just hopefully." He shakes his head, trying to get him back on track. "Let's get Zeke now."

"Understood, Captain."
