5~ Fighting Back

"We're going to be free someday, I promise you that." Sam said, summoning their weapon to train their magic. Neither of you knew their soul's trait, but their weapon was interesting. It was two twin knives, glowing the same blue-purple of their soul.

That night, the two of you decided to go to the library to see if you could find something about their soul trait. You got a textbook about soul traits and flipped the pages until you found one titled: Empathy. This was what you read:

Empathy is one of the most rare soul traits, most likely because it is observed to mimic the traits of others. A strong person possessing the soul will most likely maintain the trait, however. Empathy is observed to mimic the weapons of a soul nearby, both monster and human, with a small change depending on the personality of the one with the Empathy soul. This is all that is known about these souls.

"So that's why I have twin daggers?" Sam asked. You nodded. Not much was known about their soul, so the rest was left up to interpretation. Perhaps later you could find more information on their soul, but not now.

How do you fight back against someone you can't see? You thought, thinking of Frisk and Chara, the one in control. Fear overtook you, thinking about facing them head on, but it had to be done if you wanted a happy ending. One day, you would fight back. But what could you do now to resist the control Chara had over nearly everyone? Tell your friends about what was really happening. So you did. They were on your side, ready to fight the demon that appears when you speak its name. The next morning, you woke up to find yourself and the world reset. It appeared that you, Sam, and Sans were the only ones who remembered the past. Though you thought you saw a small flower outside your window, looking in...

This was the day, the day you fought Chara. No one ever spoke their name, except for when you would summon them. This was it. You summoned your dagger, ready to fight. Your soul shone brighter with every color. Determination urged you on, bravery told you to face your fears for your happy ending, justice told you to fight back against Chara's control, kindness told you to keep fighting for the sake of your friends, patience had enough of waiting, integrity told you to be true to your friends, and perseverance told you to keep persevering for your future. Sam summoned their twin daggers as well as everyone else prepared their weapons.

Sam was your secret weapon. Chara didn't know about their ability to mimic the attacks and weapons of those around them. The only ones fighting were you, Sam, and Sans. The three of you were the only ones who knew about the resets. You felt almost like a family. It was strange, but a nice feeling.

"Chara..." You whispered. In a blink, you were in a dark void. There was a child standing there, wearing a green sweater with a single cream yellow stripe horizontally along it. They wore brown pants with black boots as well. Chara. They looked up at you with a sinister smile, eyes shining a dark red.

"I know you want your world back, but I'm afraid that's not happening." They said simply. Sam ran at Chara, daggers drawn and ready to attack. Chara disappeared with a red flash and appeared behind Sam, who turned around and tried to stab Chara. Chara teleported away again.

You finally had them surrounded, this was it. You didn't want to kill Chara, none of you did. You just wanted them to relinquish their control on the world. You heard a quiet sob, seeing tears falling from their eyes.

"I just...I miss them all so much...I want them to be happy. I'll stop controlling the world, just please let me live..." they sobbed. Sam was the first to de-summon their weapon, kneeling down to hug Chara. They hugged back, sobbing into the purple haired enby's shoulder. The world went white, signaling a reset. The final reset.
