The Cheating Game by sugararmy07

The Cheating Game scored an impressive 12% of the vote!

Fan comments:

I selected this because I've read many stories from her and they are certainly my favorite ones here due to her writing style and story aesthetics, hence my vote goes to our honey <3 - Anonymous

I really like this story, especially its concept. I don't regret clicking on this book at all! The unique concept makes it stand out, and the writing style is easy to follow and well-done. It's truly amazing! - Kaoriwritess

I don't know from where to start with. But but, that single line on the cover and the blurb made me read the story with such an amusement. There are less and actually so few books on villian's perspective. It didn't romanticised cheating at all. In fact, as we get through the characters, it is just, they are so conflicted and need love. In that way, both the characters fill the space, and and... the writing, and the vibe. Ah! I literally read the book straight while waiting for my schedule to get clear. Her graphics and her writing are awesome. And to be honest, I came across her profile because of her writing only. Since the book is completed and I'm still on chapter 13, I'm excited to complete it as soon as I get my schedule clear and would love to read more books of her.  Keep going girll 😊🤭- Hopie37

Comments from Raven:

The Cheating Game won me over very quickly. I thought for sure Yerin would be the only one cheating, but to see Jungkook was also taken was crazy, let alone who Jungkook was dating. What are the odds of that? Holy plot twist. It's one thing for Jungkook to have a girlfriend, but it's another for his girlfriend to be Yerin's best friend. Yerin cheated, so y'know she can already be viewed in a villain light, but her own best friend's boyfriend? I honestly felt a little bad for Yerin in that moment since she honestly didn't know Jungkook was her best friend's boyfriend, as she had never seen him before prior to that. But that's why it's such an interesting twist: it makes the readers feel conflicted. Yerin is still cheating either way (on her boyfriend), so it just gives the reader a lot to think about.

Okay, I went off about just that one part of the story, but even beyond just that part, there's a lot to enjoy here that I think readers will be entertained by. The general plot is good, which is important cause... y'know, it's only the plot, no biggie. And the character exploration is very layered, which I found especially intriguing. I appreciate that you gave all the characters really realistic motivations.

Overall, The Cheating Game does an excellent job showing a villain's perspective. Like the fans said, it's great that the cheating isn't romanticized just because Jungkook is there, which is an easy trap authors fall in to; thinking bad things are okay just because a BTS member does them. It's one thing to joke like "Jungkook could punch me and I would thank him," but seriously thinking that stuff is okay just because it's Jungkook is wild, and I'm glad you didn't go in that direction. So, all in all, you did a great job with this piece!

Theme song: Love Is a Bitch by Two Feet

- Perhaps a bit cliche to give a Two Feet song to a story where the inciting incident is naughty naughty not Disney-approved, but I honestly think it fits the storyline really well. Yerin starts the story seeking intimacy due to the lack of it she feels, which I think this song reflects pretty well. And also the obvious: the song is very sensual, so I think it fits the atmosphere of the narrative well.

Meet Me at Midnight by SSears90

Meet Me at Midnight scored 26.7% of the vote!

Fan comments:

I'd been looking forward to reading a story by SSears90, but I don't like dark themes or vampire stories, so I wasn't exactly thrilled about reading this one when it ended up on my judging list. But I loved it. My bladder didn't, though. This was a book that kept me reading and forgetting about everything, including the basic urge to go the bathroom, until I finished the book and suddenly realized how uncomfortable I was. The wholesome brotherly friendships between the members in the face of very difficult circumstances was really heartwarming, and the author's ability to shift the perspective smoothly from character to character and scene to scene without a hitch could be used as an example to teach writers using third person how to do it right. The realistic ending depicting the inability of everybody to just go back to "life as normal" after traumatic events was tastefully done, but with the close bonds between the members, it's still a happy ending, of sorts. Pro tip: Go before you read and get your snacks and drinks ready. You won't want to put this one down until it's done. ;) - Anonymous

Well to be honest, SSears90 is an amazing author and she really writes cool stories and one shots. She's even one of the honest judges and hardworking. So I vote for her - Anonymous

I am not sure if I read this one or another work for a contest but I really liked the style of writing and conveying messages. Sears also doesn't shy away from not only writing about darker topics—but does it so respectfully, it's decadent! - Saramitra_

It's just different from other works! Like a new world! The Vampire AU is something that attracts me!!! Her works are always awesome! But this one is one of her best work! - Anonymous

Meet me at Midnight is an amazing story that flowed very well for me. From the dialogue to the setting and tense moments the story kept hooked until the end. I also loved the suspense that author created through out the story. - Anonymous

Amazing story! - Anonymous

This was one of the first BTS fanfics I ever read, and it's one of the few I've read that had no romance it it at all. This was nothing but a simple story about a young man who was turning into a vampire as a result of an infected animal bite. I loved that. I also loved that there was a strong emphasis on family relationships. The members of BTS are obviously a loving, supportive family in this story, and that is central to the plot. It was so wholesome. - Anonymous

I choose Meet Me at Midnight for a proud reason. There's something about it that just pulls you in right from the beginning. I was hooked from the very first chapter, and the more I read, the more I found myself completely lost in the story. What really stood out to me was how much I cared about the characters and the plot. From their fears to their unconditional love for each other, no matter what- even though one of them was a blood sucking murder machine. The writing feels so genuine and thoughtful, and it's clear that a lot of care went into making this story so special. It wasn't just a book to read and finish. Even after I finished it, it had already left its mark deep in my heart. I'm really glad I found SSears90, I love all her stories, it almost feels personal lol. I wish her huge success, and more people would feel the warmth of reading her stories, from angst, to care and love. She always finds her way to make me soft lol. I guess that's it for now, I don't know what to write more, I just felt the need to share my honest thoughts, she deserves the world for taking her time, writing these stories- my favorite stories. Love from - Sujin (Jinnifictions)

Comments from Raven:

Meet Me at Midnight is a vampire BTS fanfic, and it's a pretty dang good one that does a solid job hooking the reader in right from the start, showing Jungkook making a bad decision due to his character flaws, and said decision alters his life forever, and it also impacts the rest of BTS. Jungkook is great here for those reasons, and I like it when plots start because of a character making bad decisions. It shows they're human and sets the stakes right away.

Another thing is what the fans said: the brotherly relationship and how it's a massive part of the plot. It's easy in BTS fanfics to make that bond feel forgotten or forced, but here, it's a natural plot and character element that makes it feel fleshed out and interesting to read about. I particularly enjoyed Jin's role here, seeing as he's the oldest and ends up having to make a lot of decisions and give a lot of advice to keep his brothers safe.

Overall, Meet Me at Midnight does a great job giving the readers an entertaining read that has moments that will pull on the heartstrings, matched with a fun brotherly relationship that feels fleshed out and natural.

Theme song: Judgment by Kensuke Ushio

- Alright, I let my 15-year-old anime phase creep back in for this one, but I swear it's justified. This instrumental is from the anime Devilman Crybaby, and it hits. I feel it captures the creepy yet thrilling vibe of this story, and when the beat drops, I feel it reflects Jungkook's panic and mental state throughout the narrative. It was also an instrumental made for a show about the supernatural, so the vibes fit perfectly, hence why I selected it!

Daisies and Diamonds by maskedinthelight

Daisies and Diamonds scored 28% of the vote!

It's just such a good story. The author takes her time to communicate the deep meanings in the story - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

Daisies and Diamonds starts off with an intriguing mystery surrounding the main character, Enora: dreams. I'm getting Inception vibes right off the bat... well, no, they're completely different, but I'm basic, I love Nolan, so I needed an excuse to reference a Nolan movie. Anywho! Right off the bat, there's an interesting concept presented with recurring dreams Enora passes off as "stress" (and bad Chipotle, of course), but the narrative descends into a whirlwind of chaos from there, and that's actually one of the highlights of the piece: the solid plot that feels like it flows out naturally. And when the plot's good, it's pretty easy to get invested in the story.

Probably one of my favorite parts is Enora herself. She's such a strong character, and I don't mean that in terms of her mentality or physicality (though there's that, too), but I mean in terms of how she's presented to us and how she's written. Her dialogue is all really, really good, and the way she bounces off of other characters always kept me hooked. Dialogue is such an underrated aspect of storytelling, and I think too many authors will have too many non-essential lines or lines they don't think about, but here, it feels like every line elevates Enora and gives her more room to grow as an individual, making for an entertaining read.

Overall, Daisies and Diamonds is a solid narrative that shines with its lead character, though there are plenty of other things aside from the main character to enjoy, like the interesting plot and cool descriptions, and I think anyone reading this should go check it out!

Theme song: I Am the Fire by Ghost Monroe

- I Am the Fire is a powerful song that starts off mysterious and dark, hinting at the power and emotion that is about to come in the chorus, and I think that applies to Daisies and Diamonds, where it has this mysterious start with the dreams before it explodes and becomes very powerful and emotional the further the story progresses. The instrumental also matches the vibe of the story, in my opinion, hence why I selected it!

Honorable Mention

The Cupid Complex by 4everSherlocked

The Cupid Complex scored an impressive 10.7% of the vote!

Fan comments:

The author is, by far, one of the best K-pop fanfic writer on Wattpad. Sherly's stories are awesome, creative, and well structured. She never disappoints with her stories. I'll be here always to admire her and her works. She's a great storyteller. What else do you want in a good writer? - Pviscelle

Cupid complex hit the cupid's arrow right at my heart. It's an amazing story and the author is even more amazing. The story has the best worldbuilding and the rabbit namely charming is the charm of the story. I love how every character is portrayed. I lovee cupid complex. - Anonymous

I've been reading the author's books and I've been getting motivated from her writing. The words in which she write the chapters leave me at awe and I'm fascinated by this art she has. - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

I've read The Cupid Complex before and enjoyed my read. It's a solid narrative that gives us everything we need, and for BTS fans, it's even better. You got a sarcastic, simp Jungkook, a female lead who he bounces off of well, and appearances from the other members that make you want to squeal. But even for non-BTS fans, I think there's a lot to enjoy here, particularly with the worldbuilding.

I wanted to give it its own paragraph, so I separated it here: the worldbuilding and concept are really, really good and my personal favorite parts about this narrative. The world is fleshed out in a well-paced way, avoiding long exposition dumps. The whole idea of Cupid and Jungkook's role in that whimsical, fantastical side of the narrative is what makes the plot work so well. It's fleshed out, layered, and feels realistic despite being fantastical, making for a fun world that pulled me in when I first read it over a year and a half ago, and it still pulls me in to this day.

Overall, The Cupid Complex does an excellent job establishing a solid world that works well with a solid plot. Along with that, Jungkook takes the center stage as an interesting protagonist that I enjoyed reading about. All in all, TCC is a great read I recommend!

Theme song: New by Daya

- No, I didn't just choose this song because Jungkook likes it, shush. Though that is one reason... I mean, it is a Jungkook fanfic, after all. I think the song reflects the story really well, with the beginning being Jungkook going for a mysterious woman (Ame), and then the rest of the story descending until Jungkook is trapped and trying to find a way back to her. He doesn't want new, he wants Ame. "Don't want new, I want you." Yep, the song matches!

We had a tie for the second honorable mention, so both will receive it!

Honorable Mention

Angels in Disguise by BookLover3062 and bookwormrp

Angels in Disguise scored 9.3% of the vote!

Fan comments:

Angels In Disguise is well written and entertaining. Well done, over all. - Anonymous

I found Angels in Disguise funny and intriguing, and I like the characters. - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

Angels in Disguise was written by both BookLover3062, who tackled Isla's point of views, and bookwormrp, who handled Margaret's POV, but despite there being two different authors, the writing styles blend together quite well to the point where I honestly forgot two completely different authors were doing it, and that goes to show how much this talented duo must have communicated to make it feel so seamless. That being said, both POVs do feel different from a character perspective, so each author did a great job making the writing feel fluid and at the same time making the characters feel unique to one another.

But writing style aside, the story itself is pretty interesting, starting off on a dark note before going into a more whimsical path with the Realm of Infinite Heart, which, by the way, the worlds here with the different realms are really cool, too, and I think a lot of people will be interested to see more of this kind of worldbuilding. So, as anyone reading this can see, Angels in Disguise has a lot of strengths going for it that make it feel much different from other stories on Wattpad, and I think it's an entertaining and worthwhile read.

Overall, Angels in Disguise captivated me with its interesting ideas and how it presented its two main characters. It has a solid plot that hooked me in right away, and I encourage everyone reading this review to check out this story!

Theme song: Runaway by AURORA

- I think Aurora's voice perfectly captures the overall vibe of this narrative, and Runaway in particular captures that whimsical feel that the Realm of Infinite Heart has. It's light and airy, but also has hints of melancholy and darkness laying underneath, making it perfect for Angels in Disguise.

Ruinous Tangles by Sohinigoswami

Ruinous Tangles also scored 9.3% of the vote!

Love the twists in this poem even as the tangles twist around the poet's neck. Still LOL. - Anonymous

I have read the book and it's pretty cool.I have read her another poetry book 'Secrets of the Shadows' which captivated me. - Anonymous

Lovely juxtaposition of humour and horror. - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

Ruinous Tangles took me by surprise, as I wasn't expecting such a dark twist. It starts off super strong with an intriguing opening that hooked me right away, and it continued to capture my attention with its vivid language that doesn't overstay its welcome or risk becoming over-the-top. Every word means something to the poem, and the figurative language packed throughout only elevates the narrative more.

I mentioned at the start that it surprised me, and that's because of how dark it got, and how all that pretty language was just a facade for the trick waiting underneath. It was a clever twist I didn't see coming, and it made the vivid language that much more impactful. It's a twisted look at the Tangled/Rapunzel story we know, which made for an engaging read that I think will really resonate with the audience.

Overall, I think you did a great job with this narrative, and I hope it gets more recognition! Everyone reading this, I hope you check out Ruinous Tangles.

Theme song: Mirage by Eternal Eclipse

- I chose this because of the obvious name being "Mirage," which ties into the story, but also because this is a dark fantasy instrumental that feels like what I imagine the readers will feel when they go through the story: a sense of beauty that slowly descends until there is nothing left. It's emotional and does a great job presenting that fantastical vibe, so I think it works as a theme song for this work!

Mr. & Mrs. CEO by kookiebear0901

Fan comments:

I think its an overused plot and yet the writer wrote it in a captivating way. Its cool and awesome to read - Anonymous

I like the way the author writes. Her word choice is very interesting. - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

I've read Mr. & Mrs. CEO before, and it was fun to return to it now to see Lilac again. This story is pretty wild, which is exactly what makes it so much fun. Lilac is an absolute wildcard where she can do pretty much anything and you wouldn't see it coming, but that's just another layer of the narrative that makes it entertaining. You're definitely not going to feel bored for a single moment while reading this, haha.

But Lilac isn't the only character here that I enjoyed. Jungkook is another one who's easy to love due to his flirty-ness and overall fun vibe. I like the dynamic he has with Lilac. In general, I like the character dynamics and how Lilac tweaks out whenever she sees Taehyung, and all the conflicting emotions inside her that happen as a result of that. So when it comes to the Taekook characters, they're good, too.

Overall, Mr. & Mrs. CEO is a blast and will give you a lot of laughs and entertainment, particularly with the way the characters interact with one another and the way the unpredictable always ends up happening.

Theme song: ALWAYS BEEN YOU by Chris Grey

- I think the title probably implies why I selected this song to reflect your work, haha. Lilac and her attitude toward Jungkook I think are reflected perfectly in this song, but even beyond that, just the structure of the song is dark, mysterious, and powerful, and I think that fits with your narrative quite well, too, hence why I chose it as this story's theme song!

Jude's Philosophy of Gay Cancer by zarav_oss

Fan comments:

More people need to read this it's really good - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

Jude's Philosophy of Gay Cancer is extremely unique. I really, really love stories that explore mental health so viscerally, and here, you don't pull any punches and show us what rage and hatred can really do to a person through a nineteen-year-old Jude, who is struggling with identity and sexuality to the point where he preaches about it on the internet and can explode at friends for small things.

It's a realistic tale of mental health and suppression from society and family. They suppress him under the concept of being a "man," alongside other things. This story is more like a character study, and I admire that very much. I think you did a great job bringing Jude to life with his intense storyline that doesn't shy away from showing the realities of what pressure can actually do to a person in an extreme way. It's not just crying or staring at the wall; it can become a deep root inside you that ruins your life and causes you to self-sabotage, even if you're not knowingly doing it.

Overall, Jude's Philosophy of Gay Cancer is a solid story that I think touches on important mental health topics in a meaningful, mature way, and I really encourage you to keep writing stories like these since these topics need to be talked about more, especially on Wattpad, where it's overrun with a lot of the same tropes and storylines.

Theme song: No Blueberries by DPR Ian

- I strongly believe if you haven't listened to DPR Ian yet, you would love his stuff. All of his music is about mental health and using complex metaphors to break down how he feels about identity, rage, the concept of "goodness," etc. No Blueberries I think perfectly fits your work and reflects Jude. The song uses a metaphor with blueberries, showing that the singer doesn't prefer them, and the blueberries represent... well, I'll let Ian himself explain it. When asked about the song meaning, he said: "No Blueberries essentially depicts on the idea of when you're so obsessed with something that you let that enrage you, so it talks about fear and resentment. I chose to depict it as blueberries... I don't know why. To some people, if they completely just locked on to this in a very negative way, something as small as a blueberry can appear to be a monster." I feel that perfectly reflects Jude's rage toward homosexuality; he's so obsessed with it that it began to enrage him, even if to others it's just something small; as small as a blueberry. For those reasons, I chose this song to reflect your work!

The Oceanuris Story: Complete Edition by Iyah-M

Fan comments:

It's very good! Please keep writing! - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

The Oceanuris Story piqued my interest when I first saw the title since it's a unique title that I think will intrigue people. What is Oceanuris? That's what I want to know just from looking at it, and the blurb only interests me more. When I clicked on the story, that intrigue continued. I already enjoyed your essay collection, so I'm not surprised I enjoyed this, too, and it's because of the super fresh concept I've never seen before and also the engaging chapters.

I love the Valencia story and how you open with that, ending on a solid hook that made me want to read more. The entire first chapter was well-done, though I wanted to appreciate the last few paragraphs in particular because they did an excellent job making me curious to see what would come next. It's a really whacky concept, but you handle it well and have good grammar to top it all off.

Overall, The Oceanuris Story is a unique fantasy that's unlike anything I've read before, covering complex issues and tackling them in interesting ways. At the time of writing this, Oceanuris is almost at 400 reads, so I hope anyone reading this goes and checks it out to help cross that milestone! And also because it's just an interesting story!

Theme song: Unsubstantial by Anya Nami

- The vibe of the song I'm not sure entirely fits the story, that being said, I think the lyrics do. As the title suggests, this song covers the feelings of not feeling good enough, or feeling unsubstantial, which I think could be an interesting parallel to the Valencia storyline, especially with what's presented in chapter 2. I think the instrumental may be a bit too rock-like, and I'm not sure if rock would fit with the vibe of the story, but I still chose it since I really think the lyrics match, and the intense atmosphere could reflect the intensity of some of the scenes present throughout.

I Wish For Another Life by emilypoole977

Fan comments:

Really cool book - Anonymous

I voted because the storyline is good and the way Namjoon is written is also good - Anonymous

Comments from Raven:

I Wish For Another Life is a story I've been on record many times before saying that I enjoyed, and that remains true even now! I actually just reread it for either Candlelight or Forever Gold, I don't remember which one, so it's fresh on my brain. Upon rereading it for re-reviewing, I enjoyed it a lot. It does an excellent job going through the different stages of Namjoon's emotions in fresh ways.

For example, I commented on it, but Namjoon seeing his life as a baby was a bit comedic but also a bit sad since, when you think about it, he saw his life through baby Namjoon's eyes because he asked to go back to a time he was fully loved, which almost implies that he was only fully loved as a baby. Even if that wasn't the intended meaning, it's still sad to think about, especially in the context of the story, but that's just what makes the story so interesting: I can think about it this way, and even if that wasn't the intention, it's cool that I can even pull interpretations like that from it.

Overall, I Wish For Another Life is a super creative idea that follows BTS member Kim Namjoon on an emotional journey within himself, and Emily does an awesome job making you feel for Namjoon, making you want to see him succeed and embrace his emotions.

Theme song: A Sort Of Homecoming by Symmetry

- I think I Wish For Another Life needs an instrumental rather than a lot of vocals, and that's why I selected this song. This instrumental is peaceful yet chaotic; quiet yet loud. I think that perfectly reflects Namjoon's arc in this story, and the loud calm of this instrumental makes for great thinking music that I think Namjoon would like to listen to.
