Daneen, despite the severe ups and downs her life was accustomed to, had a lot to be grateful for. But at the moment, she was anything but.
"Ammi Jaan, he has been ripping tea cups off of me for the longest time, yet you never felt it so to let me know? You were pairing up with him and helping him? How could you do that?"
Ammi Jaan stared at her with a pokerface. "There's a lot you don't know, Daneen."
"Yes," Daneen snapped, turning her gaze to the window, the darkness reflecting in her eyes. "Yes, yes I do realize there is a lot I don't know. Thank you very much for that."
"He only went out of his way to ask me because he didn't want you to be put into unnecessary trouble because of Fareeda."
"And is that supposed to compensate for the shock and confusion this revelation has given me?"
"Daneen, sit down."
"On the very place he was sitting on just mere minutes ago?"
Ammi Jaan snickered. "There's lots of other chairs."
"Yes, and I could smack one of them in his face right now. How dare he use me like that? What did he think I was, his personal chef?"
"I'm pretty sure you have offered to make breakfast for him plenty of times."
"Because he was very obviously running late on those days and Fareeda Aunty would oversleep!"
"Fair enough," Ammi Jaan shrugged.
"I am here for you, Ammi Jaan. I didn't come back because he asked me to, I came back because I would never leave you alone. He can't take advanta-"
"He asked you to?"
Daneen huffed. "He did. But that is not the point."
Ammi Jaan tilted her head to the side. "I think it is the one and only point."
