A cold night gave one even more reason to draw closer to one another, to feel the natural warmth one was born to give. The sky was dark and low, the air so chilled it hurt to breathe. The night came whispering sweet nothings, luring heat from tired muscles until they could rest no more. It caressed the skin until it stole the pink blush and replaced it with blue. Above was the beauty of the stars, the clear night allowing the meager heat of the day to leave unhindered. The only notion of brightness came from a full moon, and even her light was a chilled silver beam.
The car hugged the black tarmac, bright headlamps illuminating the onward road. Ada gently brought the car to a halt and placed her pistol at the right side of her waist. She reached below to dust her shoes and she fought the urge to blow up when Osaze cleared his throat.
What did the idiot want to say again?
Was deceiving her that he was reasonable not enough? What more nonsense did he wish to spill out of his mouth?
“Ada!" Osaze called out.
“Yes? Why are you calling me? Can't you see I'm busy?" Ada responded most politely.
“Are you hungry?" he asked.
“No."
“Why?" he continued.
“I don't have an appetite," Ada answered.
“Then why have you been ignoring me? I have been trying to ginger you for our "date" but you have been snubbing me and giving me one-word replies. You weren't like that before we left the station." Osaze sighed, placing his palm under his chin.
Ada raised her head slightly, “I'm not interested in going...out with you anymore. Let me just do my job. You can sit in the car if you like."
Osaze chuckled softly, “Why?"
“Nothing? Why are you surprised? Aren't you used to rejection by now?" Ada sneered.
“You're a coward." Osaze declared in a subtle voice, his words jabbing daggers at Ada's heart.
“W-What? What did you just say?" Ada flipped her hair.
“Why the sudden change in thought? You don't find me attractive enough? I'm not rich enough? I'm not as obsessive as Kola or what?" Osaze arrogantly spoke.
“Is that what...you think?" Ada frowned.
“Of course, what more do you want?" Osaze continued, “You don't...want to move on and that's wrong. Kola is dragging you back from your future. Can't you see that?"
This guy is stupid!
“And what makes you think...you had a chance from the onset? Because you shed a lot of weight and people are telling you that you look handsome or what? Because you think that I like you or something. " Ada paused, her heart thumping, “For your information, I never liked you. I never saw you as "boyfriend" material talkless of husband material. Don't overstep your boundaries, Osaze. Don't! "
“Okay o!" Osaze grumbled incoherently like a child, smashing both thighs in anger.
“And...I'm not a virgin. I'm dirty and disgusting." Ada smiled sweetly.
With a bewildered look, Osaze stuttered the words out, “W-What? You are lying right?"
“I'm not lying o! I'm very serious right now, So we aren't even compatible at all." Ada shrugged while tying her shoelaces.
“Y-You have screwed Kola?" Osaze asked.
Ada laughed, “Do I need to answer that? You already know the answer."
“Well...you aren't disgusting even though I don't like the fact that you aren't a virgin but I can tolerate it." Osaze gritted his teeth.
“Tolerate what? You aren't my type, Osaze. I don't like men who judge easily. Look for your "perfect virgin" elsewhere." Ada rebuffed.
“Why are you getting angry all of a sudden? I said I'll tolerate it." Osaze banged the headrest.
“I'm not forcing you, Osaze. I already told you that you aren't..my type." Ada answered back.
“Is this because...of Kola? Why can't you just let him go? Can't you see that he's interested in Stella?" Osaze asked.
“W-What do you mean?" Ada replied, “Why do you keep mentioning Kola? Do you have an inferiority complex or what? And by the way... he's not interested in that...witch." Ada responded brashly.
“I just...feel that you deserve more and you are limiting yourself." Osaze folded his arms around his chest, fist clenched in jealousy.
“But you don't deserve me, Osaze and you know it. If you gymed to get my attention, you were either jobless or silly. Stop it and let's maintain a professional relationship, okay?" Ada told him.
Ada was relieved that Osaze didn't respond but she could notice how livid he was. Not like she cared more or less anymore. He could go hit his head on a transformer or scrub his stupid brain clean with a sponge. She checked her GPS locator on her mobile phone. She was here.
She turned her head and got down gently from the car.
“Where are you going?" Osaze asked.
“Shush!" Ada motioned with her fingers.
Her gaze fell on a luxurious house. The house was a series of rectangles constructed of steel and glass. It was unapologetically modern. Everything was geometric. The roof was flat for a start and the gate as wide as it was tall. The windows took up entire walls with only polished steel beams to break them into yet more rectangles.
Ada groaned placed a hand on her right hip. The fence looked so tall and gigantic. Why did Aderonke want her to climb the fence instead of walking right through the door like a normal human being?
She felt a familiar figure walk up to her as his slippers made kissing noises with the tarred road.
“What are you up to...now?" Osaze asked.
“I want to climb the fence," Ada remarked boldly.
“What? Why?" Osaze shrieked, “Why can't we just use the door? Why do you want to do a sick dramatic intro? For what?"
“Do you trust me?" Ada asked.
“Of course not." Osaze shook his head.
“Then....you can stay here. I am going inside." Ada placed both hands on the wall of the fence.
“Then...I'm coming with you." Osaze answered.
“B-But you just said that...you don't trust me." Ada shrugged.
“That...was then not now. People change so stop judging." Osaze answered back.
“I'm just............." A deafening sound interrupted their conversation. Ada and Osaze stared at each other. It came from that house.
“What was that?" Osaze asked.
“The signal." Ada clarified, clutching her pistol in her right hand before climbing the fence.

“You were the one who got her pregnant, weren't you? You threatened her friends and you wanted her to abort it." Aderonke spoke slowly, “Wasn't that your plan?"
“It...was a mistake and I tried to rectify it." Wale retorted as their breath mingled with each other.
“By... killing her? That was the only solution you had to offer abi?" Aderonke added.
“I wanted her to abort it because...I wanted us to go back to being a perfect family but....she agreed at first then all of a sudden, she changed her mind." Wale retorted.
“You are a devil, Adewale. You...did that to my daughter. I don't...even have the words to say right now." Aderonke shouted.
“You keep forgetting one thing. She's not your daughter. We adopted her." Wale paused before grabbing Aderonke by her cheeks, “We can easily get another child and start all over. If I go to jail, your reputation would be destroyed. You'll be penniless. You won't be able to walk freely on the streets either."
“I... don't want anything to do with you, Wale. You have to pay for what you did to Bimbo" Aderonke gritted her teeth.“You have to pay for killing...my daughter."
“I didn't kill her, Ronke. I didn't kill her." Wale suddenly stepped backward and began to tear at his hair like a mad man seeking attention.
Aderonke held the pistol in her right hand, anger seeping into her nerves, and aimed it at her husband again.
“So who did it? Who killed Bimbo?" Aderonke yelled with so much energy as tears burst out of her eyes.
There was something in that shout, a pain behind it. Wale watched. He watched Aderonke's eyes. Then he knew. The anger was nothing but a shield for pain, like a cornered soldier randomly throwing out grenades. He breathed in real slow. What if nothing blew up? What if there were no consequences?
Aderonke let out a slow controlled breath and attempted to loosen her body movements. She was walking like a clockwork soldier. She gave her shoulders a wiggle and lolled her head in a circle, let her stride slacken to a more casual pace. It was a decent effort, enough to fool the casual observer, but for the onlooker with a keen eye, she was a walking advert for tension. Her eyes moved with the alertness that comes from heavy stress and her hand holding the pistol remained clenched by subconscious demand.
“She... killed herself. She did it." Wale confessed as salty tears streamed down his cheeks.
Words left Aderonke. She stared into those bright eyes, and her heart fell silent. “You are lying. You are only trying to get into my head. You are twisting your words. "
“I am not lying, Ronke. Yes, I threatened Bimbo's friends because I didn't want them to say anything. I went to the club, that day but I didn't go there to kill her. I went there to warn her. She pulled a knife on me and we fought over it. I didn't know...I mean, I didn't know when the knife hit her stomach. I tried to pull it out. I tried. " A choky sob exited Wale's lip, “Then Bimbo circled her hands around the knife with...my hand on it and she stabbed herself. She did it because...she had nothing to lose. She felt unloved, She said that if you only...you loved her as a daughter...... "
“I LOVED MY DAUGHTER. I DID." Aderonke began screaming as her hands began to tremble with the pistol in her right hand.
“If you... loved Bimbo. You should have paid more attention to her. You should..have been there for her, every minute, every second. If you took care of her, this wouldn't have happened." Wale spoke, “I'm not perfect and you aren't either. We are both imperfect and messed up. No matter how you deny it, you are nothing without me."
Aderonke suddenly felt a rush of mixed and conflicted emotions pass through her body. Her eyes displayed a dangerous glint of red. She then aimed the gun at Wale once again.
“Is that really how you want to settle this? By killing me off? You are nothing but a murderer then." Wale retorted.
Aderonke chuckled humourlessly, “I won't be the one to end you, Adewale. It's....not me. "
And then she aimed the gun at the ceiling and let go of the trigger. She watched as Wale stood rooted on the spot, confused and astonished by her actions.
