Subject: High School Reunion?
Dear Bea,
Hello! It's been awhile since we talked. I keep telling myself I'm going to call you, but somehow, it never gets done. But you're not innocent either -- you said you'd call me when I ran into you at Costco the other day!
I kid, I kid. I just wanted to shoot you an email and see if you were planning to attend our high school reunion on Friday. I will if you will, so let me know.
xoxo

Bea,
Well, I was planning to bring TJ but I guess I can leave him at home for a couple nights. He doesn't really want to go anyway. But, you know all those girls who were in our grade and they were always saying that we were dykes and they'd get all freaked out whenever we talked to them? We don't really want to prove them right, do we? Even if it's fake right.
Also, white suits would be cute but I don't really think we could pull that off here. This is Montana we're talking about, not New York.
Speaking of which, how are you getting there? Maybe we can do a roadtrip.
Let me know!

ok first of all, why do either of us give a flying fuck what those girls think? theyre women now anyway. they probably dont even remember that. plus wouldnt it be awesome for them to see us being all awesome and gay and everything while theyre just sad corporate wives or whatever happens to mean high school girls???
2, i don't really know if i can go cuz i have this new gig and its really good so i dont wanna screw it up by skipping u know? so i'll see about it. let you know by monday, promise(ish).

Bea,
Great! If you want to carpool, I can just drive through on my way. New York traffic sucks, but I can deal. You have to give me your address, though. I have no idea where you live. Brooklyn, right? Or Queens. I don't know.
So what's your new gig? Taming lions? Planting daisies in subway cars? Jesus Christ, your life is so weird. I know you probably think I'm a little boring, but I do enjoy my stability. How do you do it?
And Samantha was very happy to hear from Auntie Bea! She still wears that t shirt you sent, you know the one with the cat wearing a baseball hat? She really wants to see you. Maybe you could drive back up and stay with me for a couple days after the reunion.
Stay safe out there!
Sarah

Bea,
You worry me sometimes. What is he doing with all those dogs? And what exactly is your job?
And things are going well at Rotham! Teaching is fun. The kids are kind of slackers, but I just like being there with them and hearing what all they have to say about the different works we're reading. They can't write for crap, but their discussions are really good. Adjunct work pays peanuts, though, so I'm hoping to get hired full time next year. Teaching summer courses with fingers crossed!
Yay, though! We're going to have so much fun. Think of all the people we're going to see. That weird kid who used to eat paper? I bet he's super jacked now.
So were you serious about being a hot lesbian couple? I need to know whether or not to get us matching suits. I'm going to buy some clippers, too, so we can give each other buzz cuts when we get there.
See you soon!
Sarah

Bea,
Give me a few weeks to become anorexic and then maybe. Speaking of which, I hope you've put on a few pounds. Last time I saw you, your ribs were sticking out. Just warning you, I haven't quite disposed of all the pregnancy fat yet, so find us some suits with a little padding around the stomach.
Also, I have no doubt that you can take care of yourself. But can't a girl be worried about her best friend? Remember that one dude who was making you drive to New Jersey and pick up his heroin every month? And I kept asking if everything was okay and you said yes every time? That's why I don't believe you, B. As much as I wish you didn't, you lie to me.
Can't wait to see you!

How did I know this was going to happen, Bea? Jesus Christ, when have you ever been there for me? Even in high school, you were like this, weren't you? But back then it was acceptable because we were just silly teenagers, right? But you're a grown woman now! No wonder your life is such a mess. No wonder you can't keep a boyfriend and all your friends hate you and your family doesn't talk to you anymore. You're just a selfish, manipulative little bitch. You like doing this, don't even try to deny it. This isn't the first time, B. I'm so tired of you, honestly. Just leave me alone. I hope you get eaten by your goddamn dogs.

it was lovely. Paper eating kid lives in San Francisco with surf instructor wife. Mean girls have kids now. Where's your friend, they asked. Oh, who knows, I said. She was always a little weird. They agreed and we laughed at how stupid you are. Leave me alone Bea.
