Chapter 27: It is so Confusing

"Here, have some tea kook, maybe it will help you calm down," Jin says, handing some tea to the younger one who hadn't stopped crying from the moment he had shown up in front of his dorm.

Panicked and filled with worry to see the youngest in such a state, Seokjin called the others to arrive at his dorm so that they could talk and understand what had just happened to the boy that had him so distraught.

They had come in record time, Jungkook not minding it because he actually needed their presence.

He tried very hard to stop crying but he just felt so hurt, betrayed, and confused that it was hard for him to stop. He never thought such a revelation would cause him so many tears.

Jungkook takes the tea cup shaking it as he starts to sip on it and continues to try his best to calm down and explain to the others.

He took a couple more sips and felt the tea start to help him a little. "I-i think I can speak more clearly now..." he says with tears coming to his eyes, but with no sobs coming out.

"I'm sorry for worrying you guys like this, and for interrupting anything you had," he apologizes first. The others shake their heads.

"No kook, you have nothing to be sorry for! We said we would be here when you needed us and that's all we are doing, now tell us what has you like this," Hobi replies as he puts his hand on Jungkooks knee.

"What went wrong, kookie? We haven't seen you this distraught since the party. Did something happen to you? Did someone do anything?" Yoongi looked at him as he asked the questions.

He wipes his tears before replying, "I got betrayed and lied to that is what happened," he sniffles. The rest stay quiet, letting him explain at his own pace.

"My-m-" he stopped himself, feeling weird to say such words after knowing who it referred to.

"My mom has come back.." he drops as the boys widen their eyes.

"Actually, she's been back for a while now," His voice drops at the end.

"I just never noticed. She was always there for me, but I didn't know...and she's the person I least expected it to be," he continues, roughly sipping some tea before he starts to cry inconsolably again.

"She's been here with you? Without you knowing? Huh? I don't mean to pressure you, just, just surprising and weird," Jimin comments.

"Two hours ago I found some papers that had my name and my moms name, Choi Kyungmi, and I, being curious, saw that it was a very recent DNA result. The papers I found, by accident at Profesor Jangs house," he explains, not being able to say mom yet because it felt so foreign and he needed to explain well.

"Then, after finding those papers I came across pictures of my dad and this person. Where they looked so in love. I felt confused and hurt, I didn't understand why Professor had such document and pictures and in the moment I thought she knew who my mom has been all along, and so I went to campus to confront her because this is a topic that is very close and sensitive to me," he continues and looks to the side.

"I didn't get why she had it or if she knew my mom, how she knew her, and I am tired of having my past be half hidden from me so I needed answers then and there. I drove to campus to ask about it and get some explanation, because I was also starting to feel deceived. Then right when I go, I bump into my father. I don't know what he was doing there, But I decided to go ahead and complain to him about my past because I was already feeling so many things from those pictures and the dna result," he continues wiping the tears as he vividly retells the moments from a bit ago.

"What did he say? Was he able to give you an answer?" Tae asked.

"He wanted to know where I had gotten such recent results so he didn't know about the test being done. So then we started arguing a little and Professor Jang appeared to ask what was happening. Then when the two realized each other's presence, they had gone into some shock–surprise to see each other," he took another sip before putting the cup down on the table in front.

"I didn't know why they were so surprised to see each other, but it was evident that they knew or knew of each other or else they wouldn't have reacted in such a way. My dad then started asking her why she was here and when she had come back, he didn't let me be confused on why he asked that when he said the name, Choi Kyungmi.

I thought I had heard wrong because her last name is Jang, not Choi. So I asked why he called her that, they both tensed up after realizing I had heard. Their silence was annoying me so I asked both again to clarify what was said,'' He wiped his nose. "My dad couldn't seem to say anything to me so I looked at Professor Jang who looked at me with guilt and regret," he says, starting to feel the tears again as he relives the moment.

"Then, they started to argue. Then suddenly, everything revealed itself–I found out the identity of who my mom is..." he looked at all of them as they were anticipating for him to reveal who it was and if their prediction of who it was was correct.

"She—" he closes his eyes.

"Professor Jang...is my mom. She's my mom," he revealed as the tears fell from his eyes. The guys gaped and looked at him in shock.

"Jang is just her alias or professional name, her real name is Choi Kyungmi. She's my mom. And she's known me for a while now, but never bothered to say anything, and now I feel so confused, I feel angry, I feel betrayed, I feel lied to, and I feel sad," he cries.

"It's no wonder really, how could I not tell that she is my mom?! How could I not realize the warmth, safety, and trust I felt with her was all because I'm her blood, I'm half of her! But also how could she not tell me the moment she felt suspicious of me being her son!? She claims she didn't tell me for my own good, but how does it do any good?!" He says angry as he wipes his tears.

"It's so hard to wrap around the fact that this person who I trusted so much, and who cares for me was the same person who left me when I was young! And while I know part of the reason why she left, I still feel upset! Even more so when I think I experienced seeing her leave. How could she leave me like that?!" He questions as he realizes that the dream he keeps having is most likely memories that he had forgotten or locked away.

"At the same time, it makes sense that she's my mom when our stories match up, too! But I just- I don't know," he sniffles. He didn't know what to think with the emotions he felt, he feels like a part of his life has been a lie or that it's at least been hidden from him.

He knows part of her truth and knows that she regrets it, but it's so hard to understand why she did it and how it did him or his family any good.

"Hey it's okay, it's okay to feel this way and feel so many emotions at once. You just were bombed with so many things in just a day! It's even taken us by surprise but like you said, many things make sense," Hobi comforts him.

"You may know her truth or part of the truth, but at the end of the day, she still left. She didn't stay and continue to give you the love you wanted from her. The love she needed to continue to give. It's okay to feel deceived too, when she hid it from you for so long," Namjoon speaks up as the others nod.

"I feel like it's going to take time for me to assimilate to everything...but I'm also very confused! I'm so confused by so many details because as I'm speaking I remember that she always told me that her son's name was Jungsuk, but I'm Jungkook! From what I remember, I've always been named Jungkook, not Jungsuk...so I don't know why she told me that," he runs his hands through his hair, frustrated.

"Did you try to ask them? Or did it really only occur now? Did you talk to any of them at all after finding the truth?" Tae asked, crossing his arms.

Jungkook looks at him and shakes his head. "I didn't let them because although I have many questions, I couldn't hear them. I'm not ready to talk to my dad or her. I don't know how to face Professor Jang,my mom...I don't even know how to address her anymore! But right now, I just can't speak to her after learning the truth, and I'm way too upset to not say something I'll regret," he replies, sighing.

"And I'm crying because I feel so upset, and because this whole topic is very touchy to me and I'm a sentimental person and I just needed to come to you guys because I only trust you guys to know and tell me if what I'm feeling is valid," he says and their expressions soften.

"Of course it's valid for you to feel all that you, Koo! Like we said, you received sensitive information out of nowhere! You've also been dealing with so much over the past month or two, and it's okay for you to feel overwhelmed and to cry. It's okay to come to us," Jin rubs his back and hands another tissue to the younger.

"Will you still want to go on the trip Kookie? I'm not asking because I'm worried, but with everything maybe you feel better staying in Seoul?" Hoseok asks.

"No, I can't stay in Seoul for this break. I need to leave this city for a while and think things through while distracting my mind. I don't want my stuff to influence anything for our trip," he responds, finally feeling like he could stop crying and only be sad.

"Are you sure Koo?" Yoongi asks to be reassured.

"Yes, please help me," he looks at them with doe eyes that make them all melt.

"Please help me clear my thoughts and let me have fun. I'm tired of crying and being upset about life, I want to go. I want to have fun, even if it's for a short period of time," he pleads as they accept his request and nod.

"Okay, we will do our best to cheer you up Koo, just promise to talk to us if things start to make you feel overwhelmed, alright?" Namjoon asks as the younger one nods.

"Can one of you guys stop by tomorrow and get my things from..." Jungkook starts but can't continue.

"From Professor Jang's place?" Taehyung asked as Jungkook nodded.

"We can all leave tomorrow and we can pass by her place to pick up your stuff as you wait in the car so that you don't have to face her yet. But kookie, you do know that you will have to talk and hear your parents out, right? I know that you may not want to, but she's also still your professor too," one of them says seriously.

"I know, but once I'm ready, I'll do it. Right now, I can't, I'm not capable of facing her. I haven't even processed the fact that she's my mom. I'm feeling very negative about her and this situation, so I know I'll face her but I can't do it yet," he says, shaking his head as they nod.

"We know, we don't mean now. We just want you to be aware," Jimin says as he caresses his hair.

"Can I stay the night here Jin and Yoongi hyung?" Jungkook asks. He couldn't go back to professor Jang's place.

"I could go back to my own dorm but Yugyeom left home already and I really don't want to be alone right now..." he looks down.

"Of course you can, we don't mind, right?" Yoongi looks at Jin who shakes his head.

"Obviously not! You can stay here Jungkook, and tomorrow we will leave and help you forget these awful past couple of months, we will help you every step of the way!" Namjoon puts a hand on the younger knee who smiles.

"Thank you so much hyung, you've done a lot for me. I hope one day I can do the same back," he looks at them all as he wipes his nose.

"You don't have to kook, it's okay, now do you want some cuddles?" Hoseok asks as the younger one nods. He really did need comfort right now.

---

Kyungmi walked into her apartment with tears in her eyes. She locked the door and put her back against it as she closed her eyes, feeling the tears run down her cheeks nonstop.

She got herself up and looked around to see if Jungkook was by some miracle in the apartment, but as she walked calling his name softly, there was no trace of her son. His stuff was still in the guest room, but he wasn't there. She knew he wouldn't be back and that killed her.

She went to his room to sit on the bed he used to sleep in and began to cry hard. She knew that he and her daughter would at some point find out, and she knew thus reaction was expected, but she didn't want him to find out like this.

Didn't want Junwoo to find out like this either. Jungkook's last words and the following conversation with her ex-husband ran over and over in her head.

"Don't you dare say anything to me right now. I don't want to hear from or look at both of you. Don't look for me! Neither of you!" Jungkook said as he rushed away from his parents, hurt and anger shining in his eyes.

"Jungkook!" They both had yelled at the same time and tried catching up to the other but it was useless. He had started running, getting far away from them.

They stood there, watching his figure become smaller and smaller as he went farther and farther away. Kyungmi closed her eyes as the tears started to fall.

Junwoo was no better as he was still trying to process his love standing right next to him after more than a decade.

"Since when are you back? Since when did you become a professor at this place and since when did you find him? Since when did you stop being a coward?" Junwoo asked bitterly as he looked down.

She looked his way, hurt, but she knew he was right. She was a coward, but he himself was almost the same too.

"Answer me! The least you can do is answer why you came back years later! Why now?!" The man said, loud and angry.

"Why now and why not earlier?! Why not when I needed you the most?! What the fuck are you doing back?!" He yelled as she tried hard to not flinch at his tone.

"I came back for my children. I came back three years ago, and I tried to get in contact with you earlier than that, but you had made it very difficult," Kyungmi replied back as neutral as possible.

The man chuckles sarcastically.

"Now you come back for them, huh? Please don't make me laugh" The man chuckles sardonically, shaking his head.

"Now you want to come back?! Now you want to be there for them?! Where were those words years ago!? Where was that attitude when I was begging you to stay?! You should have been that way from the start!" He exclaims, his voice slightly showing how sad and resentful he felt, but at the same time he was trying to hide it. He didn't want to be seen weak in front of her again.

"Also I had promised you Kyungmi! I promised you that the moment you stepped out of that door I wouldn't let you get near them again and hurt them! I still don't want you near them! I don't want you near Jungkook if it isn't anything related to school! I don't want you close to Eunjae, either!" He threatens her.

"You can't do that! He's not a child anymore, you can't make me leave him! More now that he knows who I truly am! Maybe what I did was a cowardly move and wrong of me, but I'm still their mom whether you like it or not! I was still there for some part of their life! I still helped support them somehow! You can't forbid me from everything! They both are adults, they can make their own choices! You also can't boss me around, I have every right to want to build my relationship with them again!" She yells, angry. She wasn't going to let him intimidate her or boss her around.

"You may have had that right if you had stayed but you didn't. You left from your cowardice and selfishness! Don't come here about rights. Yes, you are their mom, there is no doubt but you lost that title many years ago when you left for your own selfish reasons! At the end of the day, it's I who took care of them! It was I who had to find a way to raise them despite the fact that I was young and scared as well! I was the one who had to heal their broken heart when they asked where you were while I was trying to mend my own heart too!" He begins to stay as his voice shakes a little.

Kyungmi closes her eyes knowing he was right. But she was young and scared and if she could she would do it all over again.

"It was I who was there for them every step of the way! Who supported them and loved them! It was I who would go through their hardships while you weren't there!" He says with tears running down his eyes.

"It was me who with a raw broken heart had to get it destroyed once more seeing our son call out for you after walking through that door. Do you know how painful it was for me to know that Jungkook witnessed you leaving! How, because he was chasing after you, he had hurt his head badly and was unconscious for three days at just the age of four?" He says knowing he was going to hurt her with his words, but he was still bitter and angry. He loved this woman even after all this time but he was also still resentful of her actions.

"So he actually-?" Kyungmi asks as she widens her eyes. Remembering Jungkook telling her about the dream he had where she left. She was hoping it was only a dream, but to know it was true destroyed her then and there.

"Yes he did! You've hurt him so much! So, while I may not be able to force either him or Eunjae to stay away from you, if you truly care and love them you will leave them alone! You have no rights anymore. You are way too late!" Junwoo speaks and with that, he walks away as he feels the tears run down his eyes. He was acting strong but he too was processing it all.

Meanwhile, he had left a crying Kyungmi dealing with the self-hate and guilt that he had added weight too.

Kyungmi cried. "Why can't I go back in time?! Let me go back in time! I know what I did was wrong but I did it for them! Things weren't supposed to be this way!" She cried harder and she saw one of Jungkook's hoodies in the chair. She goes for it and hugs it.

"I'm so sorry, Kookie, I'm so sorry. Please come back to me..." she sobs.

"Why couldn't I be stronger? Why did I have to let them influence me? I've lost everything because I was too weak," she says lowering her head.

"Please let me have one more chance! Please let me at least explain to you both!" She hugs it, letting herself cry all the pain that she's withheld for so long. Letting herself also cry over the fears she had.

———————

"Wake up my little Jungsuk. Wake up bunny, you've napped for too long!" A young 25-year-old Kyungmi says to her four-year-old who is barely waking up.

"Mommy?" The little boy asks as he opens his eyes and sees his mom clearly enough and smiles.

"Mommy you are back home!!" The boy says and hugs her very tight. Every inch of sleepiness is diminished. The young woman smiles, hugging him right and caressing his back.

"Did you miss me that much my little bunny prince...mommy was only gone for a few hours! Plus your sister was home too!" His mom says with a big smile as the little boy stays in her embrace. It felt so warm, so loving.

"I missed you no matter what! Noona did too! You took longer this time around..." the boy pouted and she chuckles, brushing the hair on his forehead out of the way.

"I know bun, but mommy had to stay and finish something for her big school! You don't have to worry because at the end of the day I'll be back to you and your sister and daddy, okay?" She says and he nods with a smile.

"Mommy you are here!" A little female voice says and the young adult woman looks to see her daughter running to her and hugging her. Jungkook smiles.

"Yes I'm home. Did my big baby princess miss me too?" She smiles, feeling so much love as the little girl nodded.

Then suddenly a new voice appeared and Jungkook turned to see his dad walking in.

"Kyungmi, honey I'm home. My lovely kids, I'm home!" Junwoo says with a smile as he puts the keys on the table. The little boy instantly goes and run to his father who he missed too. The man squats down and catches him in his arm before pulling him up and throwing him in the air.

The boy smiles. The two females smile at it too.

"Missed my Jungsukie?" Junwoo tickled Jungkook who laughed and nodded.

"You're home too! Both of you are home!" Eunjae smiles.

"I am home, princess! Like your mommy and I always say, at the end of the day you will have us both! No matter what!" The male smiles and Jungkook smiles too. This was his family that he loved and nothing would change.

Jungkook wakes up feeling the light hit his face. He stays looking at the side as he takes in the dream he just had. It was a memory dream he was sure of. One where he was very happy alongside his family. This dream was different though.

This dream was different because now Professor Jang's face was very clear in the dream, and this time there was almost no nickname mentioned when they addressed him. This time it was the name Jungsuk.

Jungsuk. He didn't know if that was truly his real name or if it had been all along or if it had changed, he was still confused, if so he didn't remember when it was changed or why.

One thing that wasn't different was the feeling of yearning that he always woke up with after having these dreams. They yearn to have moments like that again. The yearning for a family and love. He always wondered why he couldn't have more of these moments in his life. However, he can't change anything.

"Hey, you are awake! How are you feeling? Did you have a bad dream?" Yoongi says walking in, seeing Jungkook finally awake in Jin's bed. Jungkook usually didn't ask to be cuddled in bed but this time he couldn't help but shyly ask Jin the night before if he could sleep with him.

The older, having no issues, allowed it. He looked to the side, seeing that Jin was gone.

"I guess, and I guess I slept fine. Just had a memory dream that's all, plus everything goes after I wake up, but I'll pull through," he replies, getting himself up as Yoongi frowns.

"Where's Jin hyung?" He asks looking around for the older.

"He's showering! You may want to head in after him so that we can start heading out for our trip! Jimin and Hobi also said they would be going over to your mom—" Jungkook flinches and Yoongi retreats his words.

"I mean Professor's place to pick up some of your stuff as well as anything from your dorm, that way you don't have to have any interaction with her," Yoongi replies as Jungkook nods.

Jungkook goes and checks his phone to see notifications from his dad. He sighs and mutes him. He didn't want to hear anything from him either.

"While we wait, let's go have breakfast! I made some food! Then you can go ahead and wash up! I'll join you, yeah?" Yoongi gestures and Jungkook nods, smiling a little at the mention of food. He hadn't ended up eating after everything.

"Hmm you have a love for food, huh? Your eyes brightened a little when I mentioned it," Yoongi teases as Jungkook blushes shyly.

"You can say I do. Hey, everything can sometimes be better with food!" Jungkook defends himself as Yoongi chuckles.

"Okay, well let's go then!" Yoongi pats his back as he watches Jungkook nod and go eat, hoping they will cheer him up.

_______

"Have you boys been able to get everything he needs?" Professor Jang asks the two boys as she stays at the door of the guest room Jungkook was staying at. She was already changed, she had fallen asleep crying on his bed and then when she woke up she changed.

She should have slept more but she couldn't. Her emotions were still very high and unstable. More rest couldn't come to her so she thought she might as well get up for the day even if she was very emotional.

She had eaten only a little and accidentally had made another serving until she remembered Jungkook wasn't going to be home anymore. She had gotten very sad and saved the other portion. It was right after eating though that she had gotten the visit of Jimin and Hoseok who had been very nice to her explaining that they were coming to get Jungkooks stuff because he didn't feel ready to see her.

She had felt her heart strings being pulled sadly when they mentioned that he didn't want to see her and were coming to collect his stuff. She didn't say no to the two boys and let them in even though it was killing her inside to know that everything was possibly ruined. That Jungkook wouldn't come back to her.

She had stayed in the living room as the boys went into the room, she didn't have the heart to see them pick everything. It was only until the end did she show up.

"Yup, I think we got everything he needs, right Jiminie?" Hobi looks at Jimin who zips up the bag and nods. They then look at the Professor who nods sadly. The boys frowned seeing her state.

They were so used to seeing her happy and in a light mood, that seeing her in a depressive state made them sad. They could tell she too had a rough night. That it wasn't only Jungkook. The swollen and red eyes were noticeable.

Jimin and Hoseok looked at each other drowning before both deciding on something with gestures.

"Here, I don't know if we are doing right or wrong by doing this because we are only his friends but just don't tell him," Jimin says handing her one of Jungkooks sweaters, they picked the one that they felt the boy would least wear.

Kyungmi widens her eyes at the boy's offer. "No, it's okay boys. I don't want you guys getting into trouble because of me with him! It's fine I'll handle it," she tries to smile but frowns.

"No Professor take it. You need something of him. I know that if I was in your position I would want to keep at least one thing of my daughter or son. Just don't let him know that we kept it and we won't tell him either," Hobi says, still handing the sweater of the young boy.

She looks at it and then at the boys before having the tears pool in her eyes. They smile at her with some pity, but mostly with kindness and care. She hesitantly takes her hands out and accepts the sweater as the tears roll down her face. She wipes them away and looks up to face them.

"Thank you, boys. I am sorry you guys have to see me like this and find everything out this way too," She sniffles as she apologizes

"You have nothing to apologize for, Professor. You haven't only been kind and caring to Jungkookie, but you have also been caring to the rest of us. It won't be fair for us to treat you differently just because you are his mom, plus you are older than us too. It wouldn't be right," Hobi speaks to her with a calm tone.

"Yeah, really it shouldn't affect us or how we think of you because we know you may have your reasons for why you did things and because we know you love Jungkookie no matter what and we know that it must be hard for you right now, so don't worry!" Jimin smiles and rubs her shoulder gently.

"Thank you really. I am so glad to have students like you guys! I am so glad you guys have each other and that Jungkook has you all. Has he, has he been well? How is he?" She asks.

"He is not so well. He is not horrible, but it's clear that this has affected him a lot and that he is overwhelmed with many different emotions, thoughts, and questions too. He is also trying to process the truth too," Hobi replies.

"He is hoping the trip helps him clear his mind and get his feelings and thoughts in order. He also wants to use it as a distraction," Jimin chimes in.

'I see. Yeah, I am sure that right now he doesn't want to face me or talk and that is valid. I don't blame him even though it hurts," she frowns and wipes her eyes again.

"Please look over him for me boys, be there for him and help him. I trust that you guys are right for him and will be there for him, I can't do it right now, but I know you guys can. Make sure he has a lot of fun and enjoys it, it is what deserves."

"Don't worry Professor, we will make sure to do that. We will help him out and have fun, we give you our word," Jimin smiles and she smiles back.

"Ah, right follow me!" She says getting an idea and going to the kitchen. The boys follow after making sure they got everything once more.

"Here I have this food," She says, going to the kitchen to bring out the extra packed food that she had made this morning. She comes back with disposable containers.

'Take this food for the road. I accidentally, out of habit made more. Jungkook loves food which is why I made a lot, but I forgot at that moment that he wouldn't be here anymore. So please help yourself, all seven of you to the food!" She hands them the two containers.

They bow, smiling. "We will, thank you so much professor," They each take a container each.

She nods.

"Also one more thing before you guys leave," She states as they nod, waiting for whatever else they will receive.

She goes to her table and takes an envelope. She then hands it to one of them who takes it.

"This letter, I wrote for Jungkook. In that letter, I have written some of the answers to his questions and some of my thoughts too. Give it to him when you feel it will be right or when he feels it will be right. That is it" She nods and gives a small smile.

"We will, we will give this to him following your orders, don't worry," Jimin replies putting the letter in the bag.

"Thank you again, boys! Now, go I don't want to hold you guys any longer! You have a long road ahead,' She crosses her arms.

They bow. "Thank you, I guess we will go then," Hobi replies, stepping to the front door with Jimin.

"Have a safe trip and see you boys after the break, yeah?" She says and they nod.

"See you after the break, don't worry professor. We will take care of ourselves. We are sure things will turn out how they are meant to be in the end. Also, thank you again for the food," Hobi bows completely. She smiles and waves as they leave.

She sighs.

"I hope so. I really hope things do get better,"
