XXXVIII -- Sword

SHOUTO

I looked around the view outside this private airplane's window. Then I looked back inside and drank the glass of orange juice on my table. After that, I leaned my back on the comfortable first class seat. Even after all of that, I still can't take my focus off of her.

She was sleeping on her own first class seat. Her black off-shoulder sweater  and black slacks made her look a lot fairer. Her pale-blue hair was tied in a loose ponytail resting on her shoulder. Her body was slightly leaned on the right as her head rests on the the seat's comfortable head padding.

Aoi looked so relaxed, as if she wasn't the one who persuaded us to do this reckless mission.

The heroes were kind enough to pay for a non-commercial flight on a private first-class plane. This private airplane is flying to Okinawa, which is the place nearest to the enemy's base. Why aren't we attacking the base directly right now? It is still part of Aoi's plan.

"..no.."

Aoi frowned as if she was in pain. Her eyes were still closed.

"..don't...don't do it.."

I stood up from my seat and went immediately across to her. My hands held both of her arms, shaking her lightly.

"Aoi." I called her. "Aoi wake up. You're having a nightmare."

She was still asleep, but she was shaking her head sideways. She looked so scared.

"It's just a nightmare. You have to wake up."

Aoi's eyes snapped open. Those sunlight eyes looked around as she was panting heavily for air. She was even sweating.

"Where...am I?"

"You're inside a plane flying to Okinawa. Do you remember?"

"Huh? Okinawa..." Her hand held the side of her head. "Yes. I remember... Don't worry, I'm fine now."

"You don't look fine."

"Don't be stubborn, Shouto, or are you overly concerned because you're in love with me?"

My eyes widen when Aoi snapped. Her eyes also went wide, as if she just realized what she said.

Then she flashed a sly smile.

"Which is not true, am I right?"

I pulled my hands away from her arms. Then I went back to my seat. She didn't react and looked up. Her eyes glowed and the compartment above opened. Kuroiwa's sword flew towards her. Her hands caught it.

She embraced the sword preciously and snuggled to the chair, closing her eyes once again.

I felt something tighten inside my chest. What is this feeling? Why do I want to pull that sword from her? Why do I want to be the one who puts her to sleep instead?

We finally arrived at Okinawa Airport where a car is waiting for us. After putting my luggage,  I helped her put hers at the back of the car, but she won't let go of the sword she's holding. Then we went inside the car's back seat, sitting far apart each other. The driver turned the engine on and started driving.

My eyes wandered to her as she fell back asleep again while leaning against the window. The sword is still in her hand. Out of curiosity, my hand reached out to the sword. Then I slowly started pulling it away from her hand.

Her hand pulled the sword back as her head turned to me. Her golden eyes were glowing and are ready to fight. Now her right hand had already zipped down the sword's bag and her left hand was holding the grip.

"Shou-kun?"

She blinked and her eyes stopped glowing. Her hand let go of the grip and she zipped the bag back up. Aoi rested her back to the backrest once again, her head facing at the back of the driver seat.

"You surprised me."

"You must treasure that sword."

"It calms me down." She answered.

"Calms you down from what? The nightmares?"

"It calms me down from your nonstop interrogation."

I facepalmed as I leaned on the window at my right.

"If you really hate being with me then you shouldn't have requested me to watch over you."

"I already explained why I requested that."

"Then at least have the decency and answer my questions because I want to help you as well. We have to get along."

"We're pretty fine."

"If you call this fine then you're not being decent enough."

I felt Aoi's gaze piercing me. When I turned my head, her eyes were narrowed at me. I didn't back down and stared at her as well.

Her eyes started glowing, but then they stopped. She sighed and rested her head back to the window, facing away from me. I tried my best not to smile from the victory.

We both got out of the car as we finally arrived. The driver opened the back compartment but before I could take out anything, Aoi's luggage and my luggage floated up in the air. I looked at Aoi and her eyes were already glowing. The driver left and the luggages gently landed down the ground.

She looked at me. "What? You told me to be decent."

I sighed and took out a white key holder with few keys. Then I unlocked the tall dark metallic gate of the house.  When it unlocked, Aoi pushed the gate open with her Quirk and she entered while the luggages floated behind her.  She even turned around to make sure that I was already inside the front yard before closing the gate.

"Just the style you like." Aoi stated.

She was looking at the one-storey Japanese style house.

"It reminds me of your home." Aoi uttered.

"You mean our home."

"It was our home when we were children, but I consider the western house my home."

She started walking again. Then she stopped, waiting for me to unlock the wooden door. As I searched which key is for the front door, a thought escaped my lips.

"You never got a chance to live in the western house before you lost your memories, but it seemed like you wanted to live there. Do you want to escape our home before?"

She stayed silent. The sound of the keys are more audible. I found the key for the front door and unlocked it. Then I slid the door open, revealing a wooden floor and a japanese style living room. I looked at her, waiting for her to enter but she just stood there, thinking deeply.

Then without looking straight into my eyes, she opened her mouth.

"You were my world back then. You were the most important person to me. I could never leave you."

I felt my chest constricting. A large lump clogged my throat.

"But I knew I had to because you don't want me in your life."

"That's not true..!" I wanted to say that to her. I wanted to prove her wrong.

But I'll only be lying to her if I say that because I really wanted to be away from her.

"So if I'll be able to live for my own, and have a world of my own, I would like to live in a western house by the ocean."
