XXXIX -- Light Smile
ONE YEAR AGO
Aoi stared at the piece of paper on her hand. Then a cheek pressed itself against hers.
"Wow, you're the second highest!"
She pushed the guy with black hair away at an arm's length.
"Too close." Aoi stated.
"What? I was just surprised."
Her head turned to him.
"You can just look into my mind and see the results of my paper."
"Oh,"
Shin took a step and lowered his back down until his forehead touched Aoi's.
"You're not uncomfy with my mind reading?"
Aoi's palm touched Shin's chest and pushed him away once again.
"I said you're too close."
A hearty laughed echoed their classroom.
"Oi, Class Rep you're too noisy." One of their classmates complained.
"Ah, Sorry sorry." Shin waved his left sideways as he apologized.
"Class Rep, why didn't you tell us the exam questions!? We could all pass, you know." Another classmate complained. She got a failing grade.
"I'm not allowed to do that. Aizawa-sensei made it clear that he'll expell me once I reveal any classified information." Shin explained with a smile.
"So unfair~ you're the one who got the highest score because of your Quirk!"
"It's not like that. I study too, you know"
"You never study, Shin." Aoi spoke while carefully putting her testpaper in her clearbook.
"Aoi!~" Shin whined. "Why did you tell them!?"
Then all the other classmates glared at Shin while Aoi remained emotionless and finished putting her testpaper inside the clearbook.

"Are there any injured today?" Aoi asked as she entered Recovery Girl's office.
Recovery Girl sighed. "I was hoping there wouldn't be anyone but a student from the Department of Supports blew up the laboratory from creating a pair of rocket boots. Students are so passionate even when the Finals Exams week just ended. Luckily, he was the only one inside the lab."
"I understand. Can I take care of the student?"
"I actually didn't give him any treatment at all because I was waiting for you except for giving him a hospital clothes since his uniform already had holes in it."
Aoi nodded. "Then I shall see him."
She walked towards the bed covered by curtains. Her eyes glowed and the curtains pulled themselves revealing a sleeping young man with curly red hair. He's skin is covered with smoke all over.
She gently tapped the young man's shoulder.
"Hmmm...five more minutes..." He mumbled in his sleep.
Her eyes glowed once again and a stool floated itself to her, landing gently beside the bed. She sat down. Then she pulled his blanket. His hands were severely burned up to his lower arms. She pulled up the hospital shirt he's wearing and saw burns on his stomach and chest. The student pulled down his shirt.
"I said five minutes...." He grumbled. She decided to treat him while he's asleep.
Aoi then placed her hands just and inch above the young man's chest and stomach. She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes.
A golden glow appeared in both Aoi's hands. Then the young man's body glowed as well. Slowly the wounds in the student's body closed and disappeared without leaving a scar. He felt a nice warm aura embracing him that it made him open his eyes.
"...an angel. Are you taking me away..?"
Aoi's eyes opened and saw that the student is fully healed. The glow in her hands and eyes vanished and she pulled her arms back to her side.
"No, I'm a student from the Hero Department." She answered calmly despite her pounding head. "You seem to be alright now."
The student looked at his hands and his eyes widen. He looked underneath his shirt and he gasped.
"D-did you heal me?"
Aoi nodded.
Then the man jumped over her in an embrace.
"Oh thank you thank you thank you! I can't thank you enough, my angel!"
Aoi held the man's shoulders as she moved back until the he's at her arms length.
"I'm Kiseki Aoi, not your angel. And you're too close."
The student's face turned as red as his curly hair. "I-i'm sorry..."
"Seeing you're alright now, I shall go."
Aoi started turned and started walking away.
"If you need new equipment, I'll help you! I'm working on a new pair of rocket shoes with more style but more power! Perfect for you."
Aoi stopped and turned her head at him.
"No thanks, I can fly."

After going to the infirmary, Aoi went to the class dormitory. Her classmates were there. Some were cooking at the kitchen while some were talking about the upcoming summer camp. Few of her classmates were crying in joy because they could still join the summer camp even when they got a failing grade. Her eyes looked around more but he's nowhere in sight.
"Kiseki! Looking for Class Rep?" One of her classmates asked. She nodded.
"He's at his room." Aoi turned to the elevator. "Ah, but before that."
She stopped and looked at her female classmate.
"Are you and Kuroiwa dating?"
The whole living room went silent. Even Aoi found it hard to process the question.
"What makes you say that?"
"You guys are really close, more than usual besties would. It wouldn't be surprising if one of you has feelings for each other."
"I don't have feelings for Shin." Aoi stated. Her feelings for Shouto hadn't faded away, and even though she could barely see him, her heart is still yearning for him.
"What about Kuroiwa? Does he have no feelings for you?"
Aoi pondered for a moment then she answered.
"Shin didn't tell anything about it. It's not good to assume such things."
Then she went inside the elevator.

She twisted the doorknob, and knocked when she realized that it was locked. Few seconds passed and the door opened, revealing a tall black-haired young man. His silver eyes were happily looking at her.
"Come in, my lady."
Aoi entered his neutral colored room. On his bed is a sword and there was a box with sharpening stones on the bedside drawer.
"Your sharpening your sword again. Does it get dull easily?" She asked as she sat down beside the sword.
"No. It's because sharpening it calms me down." Shin said as he took the sword from the bed and sheathed it. Aoi helped in putting the sharpening stone back in the box. Then she placed the box in the bedside drawer. Her best friend knelt down in front of her then placed the sword underneath his bed.
"Shall we start?" He looked up at her while still kneeling down on one leg.
Aoi nodded and Shin stood up, taking his shirt off. Then he sat beside Aoi. She observed his fair and toned body calmly with scars on it. She could recall the time when he was full of scars but there was only half of them left.
"It seems like we're 50% done." Aoi stated as Shin turned his back on her. Her eyes and hands started to glowing. The glow reached Shin's body and his scars started to heal.
They stayed quiet so that Aoi could concentrate. She actually wanted to heal Shouto's scars but Shin told her that he would refuse. Aoi felt really sad back then so Shin said that he wanted her to remove all his scars. In his logic, scars are there to remind the person of their mistakes or challenges in life. However, he doesn't need a reminder because he never forgets.
Several minutes passed by and Aoi pulled back her hands. Her head was already pounding aggressively.
"Let's take a break" Aoi stated.
"No, let's stop for today. You shouldn't force yourself."
Shin pulled his shirt and wore it back. Aoi was about to wipe the sweat of her face with the back of her hand but Shin held that said hand. He then proceeded wiping her face with a black face towel. While staring at Shin's face as he wiped her sweat, the conversation with their classmate popped in her head. It's weird that Shin didn't tease her about it when he can always read her mind.
"Shin," she spoke. "Do you have feelings for me?"
Shin left hand froze. His moonlight eyes stared into her sunlight ones.
Then he smiled lightly.
Aoi immediately understood what it meant.
