XXXIII -- Mist

I need to see her.

I need to know the answers.

I need her to tell me.

What happened, Aoi!?

I reached at the other school building and walked through the hallways once again. When I arrived in front of Aoi's room, I was already late. Aizawa-sensei and Mr. Principal are already inside talking to the pale-blue haired girl sitting on her bed. It would be rude for me to enter while they are having a conversation so I sat down the floor beside the door.

The fight we had before was really unexpected. Aoi has never fought like that. It felt like I was fighting a villain. She tricked me...Why?

"It's my win, Shouto."

The way she said those words is not like her as well.

"Apparently she wanted to test her ability to heal, as well." Sensei's words echoed in my mind.

Yes, I remember during her first internship at Father's agency. I've rarely seen her after what happened during the Sports Festival so even though I was expecting, seeing her in front of the agency building surprised me. I wanted to avoid her but I know that I couldn't do that forever. So instead, I called out her name.

"Aoi."

The girl wearing a pastel yellow long-sleeve shirt showing one of her shoulder and black leggings turned to me. Her hands are carrying the familiar gray briefcase with the letters UA. Her golden eyes widen a bit. She blinked and her expression turned blank once again.

"Shou-kun."

"Are you here to meet Father?"

She nodded and I decided to take her to him. Then I left to do my tasks after she entered his office. I kept seeing her with Father since he's training her.

Three days later, Father called me to his office. He decided that I should train Aoi in his stead and the two of us were given a mission. Back then, I felt uncomfortable being with Aoi but Father insisted. She didn't seem as uncomfortable as I was and agreed.

We successfully infiltrated the base of a villain gang who smuggled illegal drugs and weapons. Then after defeating the whole gang and called the police, I decided to talk to her.

"While waiting for the police. Let's talk."

"We are talking." She replied.

"Not about the mission. I want to ask you something. And this time, answer me truthfully."

Aoi didn't respond. Her empty eyes were looking up at the stars at the sky.

"Why did you want the engagement?"

Her eyes blinked twice. She then looked at me. Her tie pale-blue hair were swaying along with the cold wind of this mountainous area. She was wearing a pale-blue body suit, with black titanium vambraces and black knee- high boots.

"It's because..."

That time, I noticed a metallic gleam from behind her. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind me while I shot a fire ball but it didn't hit anything.

Then from the corner of my eye, I noticed someone running towards the forest.

"Aoi, stay here and guard the suspects until the police arrives."

Then I ran, following the person wearing all black. While running, I noticed a black rod thrown at me. I dodged it then hundreds of black rods were thrown from above all at once. I used my flames to blast all of them away. The long wild grasses around were burning, giving revealing at least twenty people wearing dark green suits fit for the blending in this dark forest environment. What's more is that they don't seem like a part of the gang we just defeated.

They started to attack all at once from all directions. It didn't threw me off guard and I fought them. While fighting them, I realized that they're motive is not to defeat me, but to buy more time. And when I heard the sirens of the police, they didn't retreat. Then maybe from instinct, I started running back to the cottage base.

However, they didn't let me and kept on fighting. They started using their Quirks, mostly to enhance their overall fighting abilities. I felt like I was running out of time so I froze all of them and ran. Before I arrived, I already saw what I was worried for. It was the tiny slim chance that maybe their target is Aoi.

Her right arm was dangling while a red hue was dripping from the torn part of her body suit, specifically in her upper arm of the same side. In front of her is a person with black clothing covering her face and body, similar to that of a ninja assassin and in the person's hands are short swords.

I immediately stepped my right foot on the ground but before it could freeze the enemy, the person disappeared like mist.

"Shou-kun, watch out! The person turns into a mist."

Thanks to Aoi's warning. When a dark mist appeared behind me I dodged the swords.

"Contact Father immediately."

"I already did."

"Then prepare to keep fighting until the back up is here."

"Understood."

"Tch." I heard the sound from the right side. I swang my right arm to freeze the opponent but I only got one of its swords.

Then I heard a cracked sound from behind, and realized that another sword pierced through a shield Aoi created. Then another shield encapsulated the mist. The black figured appeared and unsheathed a dagger, piercing the shield. When she got out, held her hand and froze her on the spot before she could turn into a mist.

Aoi let out a sigh of relief.

I pulled the black clothing away from the person's head and it revealed a girl with pale skin, and short black hair. When our eyes met, the glimmer of her metallic silver eyes felt overly familiar. Before I could say anything, her entire body turned into a dark mist and the ice covering her broke into pieces.

Then daggers were thrown both at Aoi and me. She stopped it midair with her Quirk and I dodged it. I grabbed the enemy's hand before she disappears.

Then her pale face appeared with a subtle yet crooked smile. The mist coiled around me, restricting my movements. I bursted my left side aflame and she the mist disappeared, so did the enemy.

I cancelled out the flames of my left side.

"Shou-kun!" Aoi ran towards me. "Are you okay?"

"Yes, I--" Then I felt my vision getting blurry.

I lost my balance and Aoi caught me. I sat down on my knees. She looked around my body and saw cuts at my back, my leg and the side of my stomach. Realizing it was poison, I reached for the vial that helps neutralize the symptoms of the poison.

It barely help when I drank it, and I started to feel out of breath. Then I fell onto the ground. My hands reached out for my neck and my vision was turning darker and darker.

"Shou-kun, Shou-kun!" I recalled Aoi's panicking voice but I was so out of air that everything is turning black. "Shou-kun hang in there, Shou-kun please!"

"No, no, no! Shou-kun! No don't leave--" Aoi's screams were cut off as I lost consciousness.

Those were my last memories of what happened during that mission.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital. And they said that Aoi healed me, but when I asked her she said she couldn't remember.

That was when she gained the ability to heal other people. She could only do it for a very short amount of time as it takes a heavy toll on her, but it is certainly more powerful than Recovery Girl's Healing. Then Aoi also started practicing it more especially during the summer camp that year.

Since her Quirk is back, this actually makes sense. She's probably testing it's limits as well, despite the cost of her upper limit.

"That girl has changed. Initially, I thought she's back to her cold demeanor but now her recklessness reminds me of that black-haired bestfriend of hers. It would take more than a day for you to wake up if her Quirk didn't work." Recovery Girl's words continued to echo.

But her Quirk does not explain her battle strategy. It does not explain her trickery and how she handles a sword.

"We need to schedule a meeting as soon as possible." Nezu-sensei stated. "Let's also change the course of our investigation and possibly revise the plan."

The door slid opened. Then Mr. Principal and Aizawa-sensei walked out of the room. I immediately stood up and bowed at them.

"Greetings, Aizawa-sensei and Mr. Principal."

"Oh, Todoroki-kun." Nezu-sensei greeted. "Kiseki-san is just right there."

"Well, if you may excuse me."

I bowed once again and entered the room.
