XLI -- Summer Training

SUMMER TRAINING

TWELVE MONTHS AGO

Aoi was looking outside the window of the the airplane. An island was visible ahead of them. Most students of Class 1-A and 1-B looked at the island with full excitement since that island will be their training ground. However, Aoi felt something was off, and Aoi's rival from Class 1-B, Arashi, could not see any areas where the plane they were riding could land. It was during that time when the Class 1-A's President stood up from his seat and walked to the front, just behind the door of the area where the Pilot is driving the plane.

He stood like a professional flight steward.

"Greetings passengers, may I have your attention please."

Since most students were already looking at him, his voice made the rest of them turn their attention to him.

"As you can see through the windows, the island named Ground Sierra is already visible. However, this plane won't be landing on the island."

Different reactions appeared among the faces of the students. Most were shocked, some were angry, and only few were calm and quiet.

"Class-Rep this better not be a prank!"
One of the Class 1-A students exclaimed.

The black-haired young man shook his head.

"No. I'm saying this to prepare ourselves. There are challenges waiting inside the island, if we fail, we won't be able to rest until night falls."

"Why are they doing this?"
"Why are you saying that now?"
"Why should we believe you?"

Class 1-B started questioning him as well.

Shin narrowed his eyes.

"We are heroes. Do you seriously think that you're going to spend your summer camp swimming happily by the sea singing 'Kumbaya'? Wake up. When the island is just below us, our teachers will ask us to form a line in this aisle and they'll drop us off without a parachute where another team awaits us in the island. So if you don't want to spend the next twelve hours failing miserably in trying to reach the resthouse, you better listen to me."

"We don't have much time. I don't care if you're from Class A or Class B, we need to work together."

The two classes silenced, and the atmosphere changed. The leisure excitement before has completely disappeared and turned into complete seriousness.

Aoi, completely unaffected by his intimidation, spoke calmly.

"Are you allowed to say those information beforehand?"

Shin smiled.

"The purpose of our summer training is to enhance our Quirks. What I'm doing is merely part of the training. I am certain the teachers would understand."

Satisfied with her best friend's answer, she stopped asking.

Then Shin turned his attention back at the two classes.

"Here's what we're going to do."

When the plane reached almost above the island, the teachers went out of the captain's cabin and told the students to form two lines at the aisle.

"Listen up, students." Aizawa-sensei stated. "As you arrive at the island, you will have to venture your way to the resthouse through the forest before lunch all by yourselves. Consider this part of your training."

"Yes, sir!" The students exclaimed.

"Good. Note that reaching the resthouse won't be easy."

"Sir, what would happen if we won't find the resthouse before lunch."

"Then you won't have lunch." Aizawa-sensei answered nonchalantly.

The students whined and groaned, except for Shin and Aoi who's used to starvation due to training.

"Shut up, you guys are so noisy." Aizawa-sensei stated grumbled. "Just reach to the resthouse and everything will be fine, got it? Plus."

"Ultra--waaaaaahhhhh!"

The floor of the plane's aisle opened and the students started falling from the sky.

"No kidding!?"
"It's happening for real!"
"Uwaaaaaaaaahhh!"

In the midst of the screams of the students, Shin was falling down horizontally while his hands were holding the back of his head. He looked so relaxed as if he wasn't falling from thousands of kilometers above the ground.

"You're so relaxed."

He looked at his best friend with pale-blue hair and glowing golden eyes flying beside him.

"How can I not relax when I have to reliable allies by my side."

"Shut up. I'm only helping this time becuase I don't wanna starve." On his other side, a young lady with wavy night-violet hair was crossing her arms as she was flying as well.

Her eyebrows met as she frowned deeply but her eyes were the color of light blue just like the sky that indicates she's not really in a bad mood.

"Of course." Shin smiled at her. "Now, Aoi, Ara-chan."

Aoi nodded. Arashi sighed. They both spread their arms. The screams of the other students turned into confusion.

"I can't believe you let your panic get the best of you. Focus!" Shin scolded the other students. "I'll explain the plan in more detail. If you have any questions, ask right away."

Then Shin explained the plan while they are falling down from the sky slower and way more gentle than before.Moments later, the wind around them carried them down gently and they landed safely on the shore. Then they looked at the forest awaiting them.

"Why did they only deployed the Class A against the all freshmen of the Hero's Department? Are they looking down on us?" Arashi scoffed.

"No. If they were, they wouldn't send the whole class and only choose some of the students. They are enough to subdue us." Aoi replied.

"Tch."

"Let's go inside. Class 3-A is waiting for us."

Shin stated with an thrilled smile on his face.
