CHAPTER 2: CORIOLANUS
They were in a small corridor, and it was dark. The room was only lit by a small lightbulb hanging from the ceiling.
A door at the end of the room opened, and they stared at it. The end led out to a completely different room, and they were hesitant.
But none of them wanted to go through.
"We're not going anywhere!" Kyujin screamed upwards, to a camera planted above the door.
It focused on her, and zoomed in.
They could see it from the TV.
The commentator smiled manically.
"Oh, seems like the contestants are refusing to leave! Shall we give them some... motivation?"
He laughed, and instantly, a loud, droning, cracking sound was heard.
It shook the room.
They could see, the walls were slowly edging in, bits of plaster fell to the floor, and paint chipped down from the curling as it slowly caved in.
"Go, GO-" Haewon shouted in panic, leading the way.
The six of them sprinted through the door.
And they made it with extra seconds to spare.
They looked back behind them, and they saw the stool and the TV being crushed, as the walls caved in around them. The piece of metal let out a deafening screech as it was crushed inwards.
They were all glad it wasn't them.
"Oh my god..."
"Holy-"
"What the actual-"
The commentator interrupted them, just before they could say their curses.
"Oh- wait, wait- remember? Watch what you say... we have an audience..." he said, smirking.
They turned around, and looked upon the room.
It was huge.
"Welcome, contestants, to round two; Coriolanus." He said.
The floor moved, and tables arose from the opening, exactly six of them lined up in a row.
"Five of these are safe. One of them, however, is filled with cyanide. Oh! How amazing, when ingested, yes. It causes a terrible, terrible headache, and then such great things happen!!! But, let's save the excitement for the viewers to see, shall we?" He said.
There were six different dishes; an apricot, a peach, a pie, an apple, a strawberry, a melon and a plate with a small metal box, just as big as a palm.
They had no idea what was inside it, but they didn't want to take any chances.
"It's first come, first serve... once you step into a box, the item in front is yours." The commentator stated, telling them the rules.
"Oh, and, your hint; 'She who has Frenchmen more than six shall be dammed to eternal suffering.'" He said.
The man clapped his hands together, and started the game.
"Round two, start!"
Nobody was taking any chances.
They all raced for everything but the metal box. Jiwoo made it first to the pie, Lily just about outrun Haewon to the apricot, so Haewon took the strawberry. Kyujin snagged the melon.
And that left Bae and Sullyoon with either the apple, or the metal box.
Neither of them wanted the metal box.
They were afraid of the unknown.
Sullyoon was closest, and ran for the apple, but Bae pulled her away, and she dragged her to the floor.
"No- not today, Sullyoon." Bae said.
Sullyoon grabbed onto her arm, and kept her in an armlock, so that Bae couldn't get away.
The others looked upon them with terror.
"Oh! Look at this fight! It seems that there's a dispute! I wonder who will win?" The commentator shouted, in his usual happiness.
The two tussled on the floor, but Bae got the better of it, yanking her arm out, and running into the box with the apple.
"NO!" Sullyoon screamed.
Bae was panting, but she smiled.
"I'm not dying today. Thank you..." she said, sort of mocking Sullyoon.
Sullyoon was left with the metal box, she clambered into her square, standing in front of the table, looking down at her dish.
The commentator told them the instructions:
"Now, contestants, pick up your plates, and dig in! We shall see who has the poison! Oh, and also, you have ten seconds to take a bite, or else you will be immediately shot!"
A countdown appeared on the screen.
They all rushed and picked up their dish.
Sullyoon hesitated.
Bae looked at her, holding the little apple in her hand.
"Well, Sullyoon, pick it up! Let's eat!" She said, putting up her apple in a toast.
There were three seconds left on the clock.
Sullyoon opened up the tin.
There was a small candy inside, red and some type of gummy tablet.
Two seconds left.
"Sullyoon, come on!" Bae said, holding the apple up to her face.
One.
Sullyoon placed the tablet in her mouth. Lily ate her apricot. Jiwoo ate the pie, Kyujin ate the melon, Haewon ate the strawberry.
And Bae ate the apple.
Within seconds, someone was on the ground, coughing up blood and foaming at the mouth. Their eyes were bulging, rolling backwards and turning bloodshot.
Their body was twitching uncontrollably, as if they were possessed. They were muttering incomprehensible words and phrases, as they suffered from the poison.
Sullyoon opened her eyes.
Bae was there, on the ground.
And, not a second later, she was dead, blood all around her mouth and eyes.
They all wanted to gag. It was such a bad sight.
And it smelt bad as well, like a mix of a bitter scent, acid, blood and a floral scent.
Kyujin threw up her chewed up melon onto the floor in disgust.
"Did you see that? Oh, Lord. Ladies and gentlemen, there you have it! A spectacular death! The pain she must've felt! How amazing!" The commentator said.
He was laughing, acting like death was the best thing in the world.
"And, contestants, this is for you! I shall give you the answer to the hint; she who has seven henchmen indicates to the story of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves'. The hint means that whoever consumes the food within the story shall suffer. And the food in question, was, in fact, the apple."
His face was happy with excitement. With every death, he seemed to be getting happier and happier, which was in contrast to the participants.
They definitely felt differently about it.
He clasped his hands together, and told them to continue.
"What a spectacular round. And, contestants... Let me give you some advice; run, run, run! Or get shot!" He said, laughing straight at the camera.
A secret hatch on the side of the room opened, and two people, dressed in all white combatant uniform entered. They quickly seized Bae's lifeless body and dragged her away, shutting the door behind them.
Then, a line of guns appeared on the wall, and another countdown blared on the TV; ten seconds.
A metal door, on the other side of the room swung open.
They all ran for it, and made it through the door just in time.
Sullyoon came last, and it shut closed behind her, just as the timer reached zero.
They could see, through another small TV in the new room, that the guns started firing all around the room, hitting every single inch of floor, leaving it torn up and in ruins.
Safe to say, they would've surely been dead if they were still in there.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for an advertisement break! See you in fifteen minutes! Make sure to vote on our website! Place your bets!" He said.
The TV turned off.
And they all sighed.
"What... what the actual-" Lily murmured, cussing just under her breath, so that nobody would hear.
"They're psychos..." Haewon added.
Jiwoo went up to the TV, and picked it up.
She smashed it onto the ground, tearing the LCD in half.
The others covered their ears.
"BASTARDS!" She screeched.
They stared at her.
Jiwoo was breathing heavy, and tears were rolling down her face.
She sat down on the floor, and cried.
Of the five remaining participants, only one would survive.
And it was a slim chance it would be her.
