~
It was dawn. Close to the time when Rod's titan would arrive at the wall. Cannons were set up along it and below it. Boxes of supplies laid scattered amongst everyone. You watched from the edge as Rod's giant titan slowly crawled its way to you.
"Fire!" You heard the leader of the artillery squad exclaim. The line of cannons went off, sending the projectiles at the titan. Squad Levi, you, and Erwin watched as the cannon fire crashed into him wave after wave. There was a pause in the fire when the smoke and dirt got too thick to see through.
"Well, how's that...?" Erwin questioned from behind you. You waited with slight anticipation, your body on high alert in case you needed to fight at a moments notice. You saw the shadow of movement before its arm came crashing down onto the ground again.
"The cannons are making it look like swiss cheese, yet it's still moving," you said flatly.
"The ground cannons seem even less effective," Erwin added on.
"Of course they are," Levi chimed in, "The wall cannons barely hit the nape, even with the better angle. What's the problem?"
"It's a mishmash of soldiers..." Erwin began to explain, "Cannons they managed to scrape together... superficial leadership... to top it off, this is a northern region. Unlike troops on the front lines, they have no battle experience."
"Well, this is the best we're going to get and that's a fact," you said, pursing your lips.
"Yeah, that much is painfully obvious," Levi replied. The cannon fire had resumed by then. "Yet again, your strategy for the Scouts boils down to another gamble. Just like everything else you conjure up." He directed that towards the Commander.
"Erwin! I brought the goodies!" You heard Hanji call from behind you. You looked towards her voice and saw Ruby, and some other soldiers bringing the load of supplies. Well, more like the soldiers were helping Ruby who was carrying and dragging most of it. A net was thrown to the ground and barrels of gunpowder sat on top of it. "All the gunpowder, ropes, and netting I could find! We'll have to assemble it ourselves, though." You walked up to Ruby who was currently carrying two gunpowder barrels which were stacked on top of each other.
"Each barrel weighs about forty five kilograms, you know," you said, crossing your arms. "You're carrying ninety kilos. Impressive." (45 kilos = 100 lbs. and 90 kilos = 200 lbs.)
"It feels light as a feather to me," she replied, placing them gently on the ground. You watched her carefully.
"Are you going to use your eye against the titan?" You questioned.
"It depends on the circumstances. If things get hairy, I'll lend my assistance," she replied, looking over at the titan who was riddled with craters.
"The plan Erwin came up with isn't bad. Assuming it goes well," you said, following her gaze.
"Good luck." Is what she said before turning around to get more supplies.
'Easy for you to say.' You thought, walking back over to where Levi and Hanji were.
"Oh, Y/n! How've you been?" Hanji greeted.
"You shouldn't be the one asking that," you replied.
"So, is the artillery doing any damage?" She asked, turning back towards Levi.
"Slightly more than a pissing insect," he responded, turning his head away.
"Then we're really planning on using this?"
Your eyes travelled down to the contraption that laid in front of them.
"Then Levi, Y/n, Jean, Sasha, Connie... take care of that side," Erwin ordered.
"Roger!" The three replied before all five of you ran over to where the pile of supplies were. You helped put together the weapon that was going to be used to blast the titan's hands. Another round of cannon fire went off. In the middle of tying a knot, scorching steam went blasting up towards you all. You crossed your arms over your face to protect it from the scalding heat.
'The stupid wind changed direction! Fuck you mother nature!' You thought, squinting your eyes. Through the steam, a large hand emerged before it slammed down on top of the wall. Chunks of the wall went flying down to the buildings below and crashed into the roofs. Slowly, the titan straightened up. When the face was exposed after crawling on the ground the whole time, you noticed that the whole front of the head was completely rubbed off. It stood up straighter, showing off its abdomen. The ribs weren't even long enough to cage the chest. Instead, the oversized intestines went spilling out over the side of the wall. It let out a roar the same time.
'Isn't that lovely.' You thought.
"Miss Y/n," you turned your head and saw Sasha holding out a bucket of water.
"Thanks," you said, grabbing it and dumping it over your head. The cool liquid helped against the hot steam. Everyone else on the squad also drenched themselves with water. You stood back behind the contraption, waiting for the cue. A few seconds later, there was a bright, electrifying orange and yellow light. Eren's titan formed emerged with a roar.
"We're good to go!" You heard Armin yell from the other side. Sasha rolled the cart in front of you all, ready in position.
"Let the attack..." You heard Erwin. "... commence!" A red flare was shot out of his gun and over the head of the titan. The 3DMG hooks shot out of the cart and attached to its hand. Gas was then pumped out and it went rolling out of Sasha's grasp.
"Take that!" She exclaimed. The sharp, thin blades sticking out of the front impaled the skin, but the cart itself had broken apart. The barrel exploded in a bright flash. Smoke blew up into the air. The titan began to fall forward.
'It's losing balance.' You thought, watching it faceplant into the wall. You felt the violent vibrations through the surface and knew Eren had began to run towards its face with a sack of gunpowder over his shoulder. You saw the titan head turn to him, its mouth wide open.
'What an idiot.' You thought. Eren threw the sack into its mouth and there was a moment of anticipation before the gunpowder exploded. Its whole body to its torso blew up like a balloon before exploding in a fiery blaze. Luckily, you all were far enough away that you weren't affected by it. Large chunks of flesh appeared through the smoke and soared through the air like airplanes, and were aimed at the civilians before.
"All troops! Finish it off with 3DMG!" Erwin ordered.
'Fuck that.' You thought, pulling out your Eclipses and aiming both. With keen, sharp eyes it didn't take long for you to hit pieces of flesh, one after another. The others took off into the sky and sliced the chunks with their swords. You exploded at least five pieces of flesh. Suddenly, there was a blinding flash right behind you. That light died down into large puffs of steam accompanied by a scream.
'Well, I'm assuming that he's dead.' You thought, placing your guns back in their holsters. You looked behind you to see Ruby disappear into the steam.

Levi had asked you to go with him back to the collapsed cave where Rod had first emerged. You didn't know the reason why, but he had a shotgun with him. While walking around the edge of the hole, you noticed Levi walk in a different direction towards the tree line. You turned to follow where he was going and saw Kenny slumped against a tree.
'Oh.' You followed after him, bringing out your gun. You soon caught up with him and stood by his side.
"Kenny," he called. The older man's eye opened to stare up at him.
"Oh gee... it's you?" He said before coughing out blood. Half of his face was burned away. Not to mention, it looked like he's lost a lot of blood since you last saw him. You glanced in between him and Levi. If you remember correctly, Kenny was the one who took Levi in after his mother died.
"Your comrades we fought... they all ended up getting crushed. Are you the only survivor?" Levi questioned.
"Seems that way." Was his simple reply. You didn't have to look at Levi to tell he was dying.
"Report back. I'm fine here alone," Levi turned his head to you. You didn't say anything and just stared back him. "Don't worry. I'll be fine." You finally let out a sigh after a few seconds.
"Alright. You better not be lying," you replied, holstering your gun and walking away from the two of them.
'How unfortunate...' You thought, tightening your gloves. You didn't want to leave him. Maybe eavesdrop at most, but... you had to respect his wishes, so long as they're not stupid. Not to mention, you wanted his and Kenny's last moments together private.
Ja ne!
