Who Are You?

"Ooh! Mabel, look at these! I didn't even know I brought these!" Dipper said, holding up a pair of dark blue tennis shoes for Mabel to see.

Mabel gave them a quick glance, and giving him a small smile. "Dipper, you have too many shoes," she said, then looking down at her own suitcase, making sure she had everything.

"I do not! You just don't have an appreciation for my love of shoes," he said.

Shirts, boots, coats, pants, socks, I think I've got everything, Mabel thought, looking through her black duffle bag, and going through her mental checklist of things she had brought. Due to Weirdmageddon, a few shirts, socks, and pairs got ripped, so she didn't have all the clothes she had brought with here but she was close. My toothbrush, brush headbands, I've got it all, except-

Mabel looked back a her bed, where her sketchbook laid, pencil inside, used as a bookmark. Mabel rarely ever left a drawing unfinished, but this time she did, to pack. She returned to the bed, to finish it. Her hand and pencil flowed over the page, as she remembered it all over again.

Weirdmageddon.

Nothing could shake that from her memory, hiding in the Mystery Museum, away from Bill, as Ford yelled at Stan, both of them desperately trying to find a way to stand up to Bill. Bill's frightening castle, everything, all the way to Dipperlandia. And all of it stood out so clearly in her mind. She constantly had dreams about it, and most of them were nightmares. And they scared her, making her worry that Bill would return.

When she looked back down at her drawing, she saw another dark picture she had drawn, related to Weirdmageddon. She saw a group of people, holding a flag up, as a triangle, loomed way up over the group, about to kill them. Jagged lines, supposedly blood, loomed everywhere, as silhouettes of the dead people hung everywhere.

Mabel dropped her pencil on the ground.

"Hey Mabes, are you okay?" Dipper asked, walking over to Mabel. "Ooh! I drawing! Can I see? Please?" He smiled wider, somehow. No matter how many times she told him her drawings were dark, he still treated them like she had drawn a puppy with the most adorable of eyes.

Not that it was a bad thing.

She slid her sketchbook over to Dipper, who looked at it for a minute. "Another memory?"

Mabel nodded. "I-I-"

"KIDS! Lunch!" They heard Melody call, which caused them both to swing their heads towards the door.

"Sweet! I'm hungry," Dipper said, running towards the staircase, and sliding down the banister. That had become a habit for Dipper, while Mabel slumped down the stairs slowly.

It was quiet, which was odd, because usually the place had some noise. But it was quiet. Stan and Ford quietly talked, as Melody read from a piece of paper, that looked like a letter of some sort. Dipper immediately dug into the sandwich put in front of him, while Mabel just gazed at it, in her own little thought bubble thinking about the drawing.

"You okay, Mabel?" Melody asked, giving her a small smile, as an attempt to cheer her up.

"Oh, um, yeah, tired. Just tired," Mabel answered quickly. Melody nodded, and went back to reading her letter.

"Your train comes tomorrow," Ford pointed out.

Mabel wasn't sure if that was a relief, or a terror. On one hand, she could go back home and leave all this panic about the mysteries behind, and go back to helping with ghosts. But on the other hand, how would she explain to her parents that she spent her winter break in danger, and fighting monsters? What if leaving only made the memories worse? What if Bill followed her back to California?

"I had so much fun in Gravity Rises! I don't want to leave! But I guess I have to," Dipper replied.

"You know, your mom and dad said, if you want to, you can come back during the summer," Stan said. "None of us would mind, I think even Ford enjoyed having you here."

Ford didn't reply to that. But Dipper knew what to say "I knew there was some happiness in you, Grunkle Ford!"

He didn't reply to that either, and Stan smiled. Mabel smiled inwardly at the thought. Although, Great Uncle Ford could be rude, and a grumpy old man, he did enjoy things, and cared for them.

Dipper was about to continue, but they heard a knock on the door. They all looked at one another, trying to decide who would go get the door by giving each other stares.

"I'll, go get it," Mabel finally chimed up. She left her chair and untouched sandwich, and went and opened the door. She saw a boy she recognized as a friend, with white blonde hair and blue eyes.

Gideon Northwest, she thought.

Gideon Northwest didn't exactly know what he was doing at the Pines' door. But what he know, was that he wanted to talk to Mabel. He had meant to do it before it was her last day, but he couldn't. His father didn't like him talking to Mabel. Maybe in a fear of him developing an infatuation for her. But he highly doubted he'd do that.

Or would he?

What was he thinking? Mabel barely knew how to handle herself in the face of danger. How could he like someone like her? He had formed a partnership with her, but it wasn't anything beyond that.

Or at least, he thought so.

Luckily, it was Mabel who answered the door. "G-Gideon?" She said, upon seeing him.

"Hello Mabel," he replied. It was only then, he saw all of Mabel's family staring at him. That makes this awkward, he thought. "I was wondering, if you'd like to talk." He said the last part a bit quieter.

"Oh, um, uh, okay," she said, getting quieter as well. "Here or alone?"

"Um, alone," he answered.

Mabel looked back at her family, who didn't seem to have much objection to her going with him. Well, besides Dipper. Dipper seemed to be angry. But, Mabel ignored his response, and went with him, out towards, whoever Gideon was taking her.

He found himself staring at her for a few seconds, thinking about her appearance. She was pretty, with her brown hair, pulled back in a nice headband, her eyes a gentle brown, as well. Oh gosh, am I actually thinking this? He thought. No, I can't be! You're Gideon Northwest! Prestigious, and-

But that isn't the Gideon Northwest she knows, he thought. Or that I think I really am.

Gideon knew Mabel knew who he really was. She was one of the few people who did. Pacifica kind of knew, but she was, well, Pacifica. Pacifica was also the one who first knew he liked her.

He worried that she was right.

"Why did you want to talk to me?" She asked him, finally breaking his thoughts, and the silence, between them.

Why did I? He asked himself. Did I just want to spend time with her? Did I have something to ask her? Or something else? Should he tell her the truth? Or make up something else? "I guess I wanted to wish you farewell before you left." He told her. Gideon wasn't sure if that was a lie or the truth. He had no idea why he had even went to the Pines' place. Mabel was just a partner, nothing more.

Or that's what he kept telling himself.

"Oh, thanks," she said, sounding disappointed.

For some reason, that made Gideon worry. Does she not want to be here? Oh no, I really do like her, don't I? But I can't like her!

"Gideon? Are you okay?" Mabel asked.

Mabel walked alongside Gideon, in the snow covered forest. It was beautiful. She didn't mind being with him. Mabel never found it to be a boring task to be with Gideon. He might be a jerk (A cute jerk), but she liked spending time with him, after that incident at his mansion.

Now, he was acting panicked. Which, she even found out of character for him.  She didn't know him too long, but well enough to know he didn't panic like this. He was calm, and controlled. Maybe something is wrong. His parents do push him around and put a lot of pressure on him.

So she asked. She was a bit nervous about asking, since its not really any of her business.

There was a few seconds of silence, before he answered. "I'm fine, Mabel." He said. "Just fine. How's packing?"

"I have to carry a few pairs of Dipper's shoes in my duffle, but it's, it's good," she replied. "But, it's good you're, okay."

"Uh, yeah," he said. "Are you okay, Mabel? You seem nervous, and quiet."

Mabel knew she wasn't the loudest person. She did talk, and yell, if she had to, but Dipper had taken the role as the talkative one, and often cut her off before she could really say anything, so she had developed some quieter habits. But right now, she was thinking about these dreams and memories, which she wasn't sure Gideon would understand. Her own twin brother barely understood. If he did t understand, he could she expect Gideon would know?

But Gideon isn't Dipper. "Oh, I'm, I'm good."

"I'm not stupid, Mabel. You don't need magic to see somethings wrong," Gideon told her.

How does Gideon know? Mabel thought. "I'm not sure you'd understand," Mabel mumbled.

"Come on, Mabel. I know more than you think. I'll at least understand," Gideon said.

"I'm not so sure, I'm different than you. You're so calm, I'm not," she croaked.

Gideon stopped, and sat down on a fallen tree, and without thinking, Mabel sat down right beside him, almost took close, but he didn't even seem to notice, or care. "Mabel, tell me."

Mabel sighed and looked at the ground. Maybe it would help if she told someone, but he, or anyone else, wouldn't understand.  He wouldn't understand the dreams, or the memories, or how bad it was. But part of her just needed to get it off her chest. Mabel was ready to start crying, but not in front of Gideon. She wasn't entirely sure if he even thought he could handle herself in the face of danger yet. "See, after, Weirdmageddon," she started, give g up and telling him.

Was she beginning to trust him? Gideon Northwest? The (cute) jerk? The guy she was only supposed to be a partner with?

She didn't understand why. "I've had these, bad dreams, about it, and these memories, and, it makes me panic." She looked back up, and Gideon seemed to be paying full attention to her.

That was when Mabel broke, and started to tear up and cry.

Gideon wasn't used to people crying. He had never shed a tear himself, well, with reason. He bet he cried as a baby. So when Mabel burst into tears, and buried her head in her hands, he had no idea what to do. Should he tell her it will be okay? Should he just stay quiet and let her cry? He figured it would be good to do  something. So he moved a bit closer to Mabel, who had shoved farther away from him, and put a hand on her back.

The thing was, Gideon knew exactly how she felt.

He remembered when he and Pacifica had gotten their amulets. Pacifica had always been secure with it, and immediately was good with the magic, whereas, he, had difficulty with it. He never had shown it in front of the public, but he sometimes spent days questioning everything, hitting his head against a wall, thinking everything was terrible and no one understood. That he wasn't meant for this magic.

And that was what Mabel felt. He knew.

So there was something about the, that was similar.

The only difference was, Gideon learned how to get over it. He learned from it, and he had become who he was now. A clam, collected, and strong guy. Mabel, he sensed, would always have that sense of insecurity. If she can't get rid of it, she has to at least think of  something else, he thought,

Man, if Pacifica was here, she'd be yelling at me

"Mabel, deep breaths," Gideon finally whispered.

She sniffled. "Gideon, you have no idea. I-"

"Yes you can, Mabel," he said. "I know you can. And I know what you're going through, I was there myself."

Mabel stood there, as Gideon stood up again, and helped her up. They stood there, as Mabel took deep breaths, to try and calm down. What did he mean by 'I was there myself'? He couldn't have been. He's not like her, and he can't understand.

But, by the look in his eyes, it looked like Gideon was telling the truth. The complete and 100 percent truth. And, Mabel didn't think he was the of person to lie that often. She took one last breath, and stopped crying. He pulled out a tissue for her, and she wiped her eyes.

She looks back up at Gideon, blushing

Oh no, you can't be, Mabel thought, are you getting a crush on Gideon? You can't, he's just a friend, not a crush! Besides, what would Dipper say? Everything would be messed up. She didn't even know, but she started smiling as she hugged back, as he lightly put an arm around her. She didn't know if he was smiling, or wanted this, but didn't care. She finally let go, and stopped smiling.

"Gideon, I'm not sure if I'll ever get over it," she whispered sadly.

"Mabel, I'm sure you can. Even if you can't, you can at least try not to focus on it," he told Mabel.

"Wait, what did you mean by 'I was there myself?'" She asked.

Gideon thought he saw Mabel blush at him, which made him want to blush back, but he couldn't, because he was already confused if he liked he,r even if he shouldn't. He could even hear Pacifica's reaction once she found out about would happen if he blushed back. I told you like her, no I don't Pacifica, yes you do, whatever, it's not like me and Mabel will get married or whatever, ugh, Gideon.

I can't like her, I can't, he thought.

Then she asked him what he and meant by something earlier, about what he had meant when he was there before, or whatever he said. Mabel was smart, even if she bawling and upset. He knew she'd pick up on that. Then why wasn't he ready to tell her? Maybe since he hadn't told anyone. Not even Pacifica. And, somehow, she knew almost everything about him.

"Mabel, I went through something similar," Gideon started. "When I first got my amulet."

Dipper was starting to get worried about Mabel. Despite her trust of the platinum blonde rich jerk (who Dipper was pretty sure Mabel thought was handsome), he still didn't like him. Even after he lent him a pair of his shoes (reluctantly) and that hockey match. So, he decided to go investigate what was happening.

But he would need help, from two people he know would be good for help. Candy and Greyson.

"Grunkle Ford and Stan, can I go see Candy and Greyson?" Dipper asked. "Please? I'll make you one of my famous Dipper Donuts!"

"Sure," Ford said. "Just be back sometime today. And I'm good without Dipper Donuts." Ford had never seemed to like Dipper Donuts, anyways, and Dipper did not know why. To him, Dipper Donuts were amazing. If you avoided the aglets that were sometimes in there.

With that, Dipper rushed out the door to find Candy and Greyson. Where did they say they lived again? Dipper didn't remember, he was too busy thinking about how Mabel was upset  when they had told him. But luckily, he saw the, walking on the street, Candy ranting to Greyson about something, looking flustered, and blushing. "Candy! Greyson!" He called out.

"Dipper! I heard its your last day," Candy said. "And I-"

"Dipper! How's Amanda?" Greyson asked, and Candy gave him a cold glare.

"She's great! She's doing good now that she's back with her family, but right now, I need your help," Dipper told them.

"What do you need?" Greyson asked.

"It's Mabel. She's hanging out with Gideon, and I'm worried about her, so I want to go spy on them, but I need your help," Dipper said.

"Not Gideon," Greyson grumbled.

"Let's go!" Candy said, as her, Dipper, and Greyson began to run. "Hey Dipper, there's something I want to tell you-"

"Can it wait, Candy?" Dipper asked.

Candy sighed and nodded. Would she ever get to tell him?

"After I first got it, I didn't know how to control it, and I got horrible dreams," Gideon continued. "And I had a hard time. Everything seemed dark, and I, I don't want to talk about it."

So he does know, Mabel thought.

Things got quiet between the two again, they both looked at each other, but didn't say anything. Mabel couldn't find words for the moment.

Until she did have words. "Gideon?"

"Yes?" He replied.

"Who are you?"

He seemed confused by the question. "What do you mean, Mabel? You know who I am, I'm Gideon Northwest, son of Geneva and Gaston North-" he started.

"No," Mabel interrupted, quietly. "Who are you, inside?"

He stood there, looking confused. Before, she knew him as Gideon Northwest, the rich jerk who helped Pacifica with her plans, and thought she was weak. After the ghost situation, she thought of him as a partner, who wasn't like his parents. Now, she had no idea.

"I'm, I'm Gideon Northwest," he said.

But this time when he said it, she knew he meant something.

And that made her smile. It want just a fake smile, or a nervous smile.

It was a genuine one.

"Come on! I think I can hear them!" Dipper whispered to Candy and Greyson, as they moved very quietly.

"Wait! I see them!" Greyson said, pointing at two people, Gideon and Mabel, talking and laughing. The trio moved behind a bush, close by the two. Dipper peaked his head over the bush, to see them laughing.

"Man, whatever that was," Mabel said, laughing. It was a real laugh, not a fake one to please Gideon. Greyson and Candy soon peaked their heads over the bush as well. She pushed her hair back, like she was flirting with him! That made Dipper mad.

Gideon chuckled, in a sophisticated way, and crossed his arms, smiling. "I know."

He knew the looks they were giving each other. They liked each other! He just knew it! That was the same look him and Amanda had given each other, except, it was more, Mabel and Gideon. "Did you see that?" He asked.

"I think she likes him!" Greyson whispered.

"I know!" Dipper whispered back.

That's when, he thought Mabel and Gideon heard them. "Hey, what's that?" They heard Mabel ask as they ducked down, trying to avoid being seen, or heard.

"I don't know, but it's probably just an animal or something," Gideon said.

That's when, they heard another rustle, from behind a tree. Dipper, Greyson, and Candy all looked, but they didn't even know what it was. Careful not to be seen, Dipper peeked his head out to see-

Pacifica?

Pacifica Pleasure had been watching Gideon and Mabel.

Why, you might ask, with a girl with these many tasks and shows to preform, now that the show was back on the road, watch her partner and enemy like she was?

To put simply, it was for proof. Pacifica was very intelligent, and she knew that Gideon liked Mabel. Even when she exchanged letters with him in prison, she still knew he liked her. Especially after she heard about the little ghost problem at his mansion. But she knew even before that, he liked her. But, he refused to admit it. And that's what annoyed her. Pacifica was barely ever wrong. And this time, was not one of those times she was wrong.

Plus, she figured, if Gideon was dating Mabel in a few years, she could get Gideon to talk to Mabel to talk Dipper into dating her, and not talking to that girl, Amanda, or whatever that girls name was. So, it would benefit for her if they got together.

She had been sneaky for a while about watching them, even sneaky about figuring out where they were. Now, she was in verge of being caught, when she tried to move, but rustled a bush in the process. She wasn't worried about being caught, just how to move. So she quickly ducked down, trying to hide her body and head from view, and making sure her hair didn't get too ruined.

"Do you, think we're being, watched?" Mabel asked Gideon. "Because I'm kind of getting that feeling."

She took a few steps to one side to look, but not where she was. Gideon grabbed her hand, and held it , as Mabel looked around the bushes. Pacifica just had to get a picture, in case Gideon ever denied it. She took out the camera she brought, and got ready to snap a picture, just as she did, she heard someone yell. "Hands to yourself, Northwest!" She looked up in the bushes, to see it was Dipper, with those two friends of his.

"Dipper?" Mabel said, suddenly blushing as red as a human could.

That's when Gideon saw her. "Pacifica?" He asked, giving her a cold glare. A very cold glare.

She stood up and giggled. "I told you you liked her."

"Dipper! Why were you spying on us?" Mabel asked, glaring at him.

"I didn't want toy spending time with that Northwest kid too long! You'd become like him!" She argued.

The twins continued to argue, Mabel still beet red, as Gideon got up in her face. "Pacifica, you think it's funny to spy on me? Let me tell you, if you do this again, I will not hesitate to-"

"Hehe, you like her," Pacifica giggled. Gideon turned a very light shade of pink, but narrowed his glare.

"Don't do that ever again," he grunted. "Now get out."

Pacifica giggled once again. "Fine, but don't think I'll forget about this!" She said, as she started to walk off, giggling about Gideon's crush.

"Mabel! Let's go!" Dipper said.

"I'll finish talking to him, then I'll come," Mabel said.

"Fine," Dipper said. "Don't think I like this!"

"Dipper..?" Candy said, trying to get his attention, as he walked back towards the Mystery Museum.

"Yes?" He asked.

"I.... I...." She started. Dipper looked at her, and waited for her to finish. "Nevermind," then she sighed, as the three walked back to the Mystery Museum together, as Greyson tried to cheer them up.

"Sorry about Dipper," Mabel apologized to Gideon, her bright deep blush turning into a shade of pink.

"And my apologies about Pacifica," Gideon replied. Mabel thought she saw a but of ink on his cheeks. "Now, what were you saying?"

"I don't remember," she said. "But, I never thought I'd say this, but I think I'm going to miss you."

Gideon gave her a smile. One that made him look very, handsome and cute. She smiled back, and then pulled him into a hug. She smiled even wider, as she saw him change his smile, and turn a shade of pink, and hug her back, and looked down at her. "I'm going to miss you too, Mabel."

She let go of him slowly, still smiling and blushing. "I'll come back this summer, I promise. But for the time being, here," she said. Mabel dug around her coat pocket, until she found a pen and piece of paper, she scrawled down her email address on it. "My email. So we can still talk," she handed it to him.

He took the piece of paper, read it over, then looked back at her. "I will make sure to."

His face went straighter. "Wait, if you're coming back, does it mean this isn't over?" He asked.

Mabel thought for a minute, furrowing her eyes rows, and putting a hand on her chin. "I'm, I'm not sure, but whatever happens, I, I have you, and Dipper."

"We have each other," he said.

"I, I need to go," Mabel said, turning back. "Goodbye, Gideon."

"Goodbye, Mabel," he said. Mabel turned back to walked back to the Mystery Museum.

Gideon smiled to himself, as he watched Mabel. He turned a shade pink. She is quite pretty. He thought. No..... I can't be liking her.... But I am.

But I do like her.

With that, Gideon started walking back to Northwest Mansion.

TA DA! Hope you all enjoyed :)
