Chapter 8
I hesitated slightly as I stood in front of the principal's door. What I was about to do was a huge risk, but I can't just sit back and do nothing.
And so, I knocked.
"Come in!" The response was almost immediate.
I hesitantly walked in as I tried to ignore all the stares I was gaining from the multiple teachers in the room. Apparently, I had interrupted a teachers meeting. Oh dear...
"O-oh, um," I looked at the principal, who I actually happened to know, and hesitated. "I-I can come b-back later..."
"You're fine Masami-chan" The principal assured me. "What do you need?"
"U-um, well," I looked at all the teachers, who happened to be looking at me, and I could tell my heart was beating quite fast. "Y-you see, it's about t-the breach i-in security today."
The teachers were all immediately alert.
"Ah," The principal responded. "It just so happens that we were actually discussing that very matter."
"A-ah, yes, w-well," I twiddled my fingers as I grew more and more nervous. "I-I think I m-may know who c-caused the hole in t-the b-barrier."
"What?!" Multiple teachers exclaimed while some just narrowed their eyes
"I see," The principal looked serious now. "And who do you think it is, and how do you know?"
"H-His name is S-Shigaraki Tomura," I stuttered out. "H-his quirk i-is known a-as decay, w-which allows h-him to c-cause any solid o-object or person t-to decay o-once h-he lays all five f-fingers on it. A-as for how I-I know him, well, I-I've s-sort of ran i-into him a f-few times on my way home. H-he likes t-to explain things a-and brag w-while he t-tries to kill me."
Complete and total silence...
Did I say something wrong?
"Masami-chan, you do realize what you just said, right?" I looked to my left and noticed that it was Midnight who spoke up.
"A-ah, Kayama-san!" I looked at her in surprise before answering her question. "D-did I s-say something w-wrong?"
"Dear child, a villain has been trying to kill you," Recovery Girl, who was also in the room, spoke up. "I think most of us are surprised that you haven't let anyone know. It's a surprise enough that you're alive."
"O-oh," I guess that made sense. "I-I guess I-I always g-got d-distracted before I c-could tell a-anyone."
"What could possibly distract you?" Yamada-sensei asked me.
"O-oh, w-well, I h-had homework that I-I needed to get done, a-as well as s-some chores... O-oh, and I-I've also been w-working on some projects for w-work." I explained as many of them sweat dropped.
I wonder why...
"You're more dense than I thought, aren't you?" Aizawa-sensei sighed from back left of the room as he looked at me.
That's... Kind of harsh...
"Now, now," The principal interrupted before anything else could be said. I guess he saw the hurt look on my face. He turned to me. "Do you have anymore knowledge on this Shigaraki Tomura?"
"A-ah, well, h-he doesn't work a-alone," I told him. "H-he'll sometimes have s-somebody with a warp q-quirk teleport him away. A-and he's mentioned s-something about bringing this s-society's idea of peace t-to an end. T-though, he's only recently b-brought that up, so I t-think he's planning something. T-today's incident only s-strengthened that idea..."
"I don't mean to interrupt," The Blood Hero: Vlad King intervened. "But am I the only one who's curious how she's managed to survive. From what I'm aware of, isn't she quirkless?"
Hey... He's talking like I'm not even here... That's kind of rude...
And what's wrong with being quirkless?!
"I've been wondering that too," Some of the other teachers agreed as they looked at me.
"W-well, um," I looked away as I scratched the back of my head. "I-I may or may n-not have k-kicked him in t-the nether region a f-few times... And I-I also threw a trash can at h-his face, and maybe a stuffed c-cat, and a-a lamp. I-I don't really k-know where the l-lamp came f-from, though..."
I mostly gained sweat drops.
I mean, hey, they're the ones that wanted to know! And I told them. It's not like I was lying or anything.
"R-right..."
Hey, I wasn't the only one who stuttered for once. That's a nice feeling...
"Why are you living in an area where you can run into villains so easily?" Midnight looked at me with a concerned face. "Why haven't you at least told your mom?"
Uh... Does nobody know or something?
"U-um, my mother d-died a few years ago," I explained. "I-I had to m-move soon after."
Midnight's eyes widened before frowning.
"I'm sorry," She apologized as some of the other teachers gave me a pitying look. "I didn't know... But... If your mother is gone, then who is taking care of you? I assume you haven't told your father, so that counts him out."
"W-why do people k-keep on saying that?" I sweat dropped as Midnight gave me a knowing look. "I-I've been staying w-with a family f-friend."
I guess I'm just going to go with what I told Yagi-san. Speaking of which, I didn't see Yagi-san in the room...
Oh well.
"Oh really?" Midnight didn't let it go like Yagi-san. "So you're fine if I come with you to your house after this?"
"U-um," Well... I didn't expect that... "No c-comment."
Midnight gave a victorious smirk before she regained her concerned look.
"So where have you really been staying?" She asked with a dangerous look in her eyes.
I mumbled my reply so quietly that I could barely hear myself.
"What was that?" I whispered it a bit louder but still not enough for anyone to hear. "Again please."
"An a-abandoned factory..." I mumbled barely loud enough for them to hear, but they managed to hear what I said. I could tell because most of their eyes widened almost immediately.
"How long?" All Might himself asked as he frowned. Which, might I say, looked very weird.
"F-for about e-eight years," I looked away. I was starting to regret my decision to come here...
"I'm sorry," Principal Nezu apologized for some reason. But he actually sounded serious, so I listened to him. "But I'm afraid we can't be allowing any of our students to be staying in an abandoned factory."
Oh.
Wait... What?
"I-it's a very nice f-factory though," I tried to defend my home. "I-I even painted the walls, a-and I just m-made myself a new c-comforter too!"
They all dead panned at me and my defense towards my home.
"Seriously, that's your defense?" Aizawa-sensei shook his head. "Only an idiot would want to live in an abandoned factory."
I... I don't think he likes me.
"Well," Principal Nezu glanced at Aizawa-sensei before looking back at me. "I think I've come to a decision." All the teachers looked at him. "I've decided that while everything else is being decided, Masami-chan will stay with Eraser Head!"
...Come again?
Even Aizawa-sensei looked surprised. Well, everyone but a select few looked surprised.
"U-um, c-come again?" I spoke my mind.
"Well, seeing as you have a villain after you and currently don't have a proper home, I think it's only natural that you stay with a pro hero," The principal explained.
Yeah, but why Eraser Head out of all the pro heroes. Seriously though, I'm pretty sure he hates my guts...
"I-I mean, i-it's not as though S-Shigaraki is after me," I tried to come up with an excuse. "H-he just doesn't t-take losing v-very well. And b-besides, the factory i-isn't that bad."
"I've already decided," Nezu didn't budge.
"Personally," Aizawa-sensei started. "I think she'd be better off with another pro. I'm not really the kid type. Besides, she seems to get along with Midnight just fine."
I think we've all realized that he's not exactly a kid person by now...
"Do you really want a teenage girl to be staying with the R-rated hero?" Midnight questioned as I looked at her with a dead panned face.
And here I thought she would help me...
However, the other heroes murmured their agreement with Midnight.
Okay, I want to know something. How, just how, did we go from talking about villains to talking about my living arrangements?
Maybe I'm just bad luck.
Yeah, let's go with that.
"If she ends up scarred for life, I'm blaming you," Aizawa-sensei drawled to the Nezu.
Should I be worried?
"Oi," Yamada-sensei clapped Aizawa-sensei on the back. "Go easy on the girl. I'm sure you already scare her enough!"
"Another reason for her not to stay with me."
"Well," Nezu turned to me. "Are you scared of him, Masami-chan?"
"U-um, not really," I started twiddling my fingers as all the attention went back to me. "H-he helped me out w-with the n-news reporters, a-and he doesn't s-seem too scary..."
"Then it's settled!" Nezu grinned while Aizawa-sensei sighed.
Oh...
I'm doomed...
