Chapter 51

"As you can see here, we have multitudes of people crowded around in front of the hospital that the vigilante known as Shirokage has been brought to," A news reporter stated to the camera. "It appears that almost all of them are here to protest the arrest of the vigilante after she miraculously restored the entire Camino Ward. So far, we've heard no response from the police or the heroes as to what Shirokage's fate will be."

Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi turned the TV in the room off with a sigh as he and four others looked through the one way mirror that held Shirokage's, now known to be Masami, room on the other side.

"The doctors say that she'll live," Those with the detective gave a sigh in relief at his words. "But there may be some lasting side effects. There's no way to tell until she wakes up."

The others in the room consisted of Principal Nezu, Yagi Toshinori, Kayama Nemuri, and Aizawa Shota. Nezu, Yagi, and Kayama had obviously been called as they've known the girl for a long time. Meanwhile, Aizawa was there for the obvious reason of having been her guardian the past couple months.

Masami, unfortunately enough, had yet to wake up. She had gone through multiple surgeries and was currently recovering. Every once in a while, she would let out a small cough, but that was it. She barely moved, and her light breathing was the only way that you could tell she was alive when she wasn't coughing.

"Do the doctors know when she's likely to wake up?" Kayama, otherwise known as Midnight, questioned with a worried look. She hated seeing the girl in the hospital. She hated seeing the said girl in handcuffs even more.

Yes, Masami had been handcuffed to her bed. While she was still a kid, that everyone knew to be the sweetest little thing, she was still Shirokage. A criminal.

"They say she should be up any time now," Naomasa responded quietly. None of them had taken their eyes off the room and the girl. They felt like she would disappear if they did.

"Speaking of which," Nezu chirped as they all noticed the girl twitch as her face scrunched up in a bit of pain. "It looks like she's trying to wake herself up now!"

All of them watched carefully as she finally opened her eyes to reveal their icy blue color.

On Masami's end, she was in a significant amount of pain. Her stomach and arm ached as she tried to move. She felt as though she had been out for months and was absolutely exhausted.

"What..." She stared hazily at a handcuff that was placed around her wrist as well as the bed. "What's g-going on...?"

"You've been asleep for almost a week." Masami jumped a little as Detective Naomasa walked in with the four heroes behind him. "How are you feeling?"

"O-oh, um, a bit s-stiff I suppose." She had looked away nervously at the looks she was receiving. The events of the previous chapter had come back to her almost as soon as she laid eyes on the detective. Now, she couldn't look any of them in the eyes. She felt both ashamed and worried. It didn't help that she had only spoken to Naomasa as Shirokage, so it was a bit awkward. "B-but I feel f-fine otherwise."

"That's good," Masami was a bit relieved when she saw his calm smile. At least it seemed as though she wouldn't be getting herself killed by them quite yet. "Do you remember what happened?"

They could all tell that she was a bit disoriented. It was normal, they supposed, considering she was on the brink of death when first arriving at the hospital.

"M-mhm," She nodded with even more nervousness than before. "I-I'm sorry..."

"Sorry for helping to save an entire city?" Naomasa raised an eyebrow good naturedly as the small girl fidgeted. Honestly, he wasn't really sure how to act. From what it looked like, Hideyoshi Masami and Shirokage acted like completely different people. As someone who spoke quite often with the spunky vigilante, he was surprised to see her acting so timid.

"F-for lying..." The girl corrected softly. "A-and for breaking the l-law."

"Speaking of which..." Masami stiffened as Aizawa spoke up for the first time. Even the teachers and detective were surprised as he had been keeping quiet a majority of the day. "Mind explaining why you became a vigilante in the first place? The police got the Hirohito's to release your seal, so you can speak freely."

Masami looked at the man in surprise as he mentioned the Hirohito's. Out of all things that could happen, she never would have expected Koharu to release her seal so easily. She hesitated a bit before speaking up and was surprised that she didn't freeze up. The seal that had been put in place had kept her from communicating in any way that would reveal information about them. That's why she had kept quiet about her year missing. She wouldn't have been able to any way you look at it.

"I-I..." She looked down at her hands in her lap as she tried to find a way of answering. "I knew s-so much about villains and t-traitors among the heroes, and I-I couldn't do anything to alert the t-true heroes. The o-one time I tried, it ended w-with an entire police station being blown up. I-I knew that it would be t-too late before the heroes found out, s-so I decided to take matters i-into my own hands. I-I made the decision of becoming a v-vigilante in order to k-keep people safe from the l-lesser known but m-more dangerous villains. Heroes always f-fight what they can see. I-I fight that which can be considered t-the underground of the u-underground. I know i-it sounds stupid, and I-I know that I made a brash decision. But I don't regret it. I'll apologize f-for lying and b-breaking the law, but I won't a-apologize for becoming Shirokage. I knew the consequences w-when I got into the business."

They all fell silent at her reply. Anyone could tell that she wasn't ashamed of being Shirokage. No, she was ashamed of how she had to lie in order to be Shirokage.

"Well, the consequences may be less severe than you believe." Masami looked at the detective confusedly as he continued. "Right now, almost everyone involved in the Camino incident are protesting your arrest. And, seeing as you've never truly harmed anyone with lethal intent, you'll probably be let off lightly. Especially since you're still a minor. However, you will, of course, have to answer our questions."

Masami was at a loss for words as she stared wide eyed at the five. She had not been expecting for this conversation to turn out the way it had been. She had expected for them all to be mad at her and throw her in jail for the rest of her life. Of course, she didn't mind being thrown in jail. She knew that she deserved it.

"Also," Masami almost froze as Naomasa began to list off one more condition. "I've been made aware that you know who your father figure is." This time, Masami really did freeze up. "Unfortunately, as you are considered to be a criminal, we'll have to know who exactly he is for the records. Of course, we'll let you decide whether you'd rather stay with your biological father or if you would prefer to stay with Eraser Head for the time being."

Masami couldn't help but think about the sheer irony of that.

It appears that the three who knew her secret noticed the panicked look on the girl's face as she looked at them pleadingly. This was clearly one question that she didn't want to answer.

"I know you want to keep it a secret, Young Masami," All Might started a bit hesitant. He knew how important keeping this secret was to her. "But maybe it's time you told him. I think he deserves to know, don't you?"

"H-he does..." She admitted however reluctantly. "B-but he'll h-hate me if he f-finds out I never told h-him after all this t-time... I don't w-want that to happen!"

The five adults winced slightly as tears began to well up in Masami's eyes. She had begun to sniffle a bit as she stressed. She had clearly decided to look at all the possible negative outcomes instead of any positive ones.

"Kid," Masami looked up with another sniffle as Aizawa began to speak with a raised brow. "You're pretty hard to hate. I doubt anyone would be disappointed in you unless they're blind or a villain."

"Ya' hear that Masami?!" Midnight gave the girl a small side hug. "You really need to stop thinking so little of yourself!"

"B-but..." She trailed off as she cried and let out a small hiccup. "Y-you know that the s-situation is different!"

If Naomasa was being honest, he felt a bit regretful for asking such a question. It was clear that the idea of answering scared Masami to death, but it couldn't be helped. This was the first time they had ever arrested a vigilante that was a minor. Everyone had felt sick to their stomach when they first made this discovery. A mere fifteen year old had been fighting alongside them and evading their capture for years. She had more injuries and gone through just as much if not more hardship than the majority of pro heroes. It was disheartening in a way.

"You shouldn't have to worry about being judged or hated." Aizawa tried to convince her. "I'm sure whoever your dad is, he's proud of you."

"And..." Masami paused as she spoke in a barely audible voice. Her voice was cracking even more now. "W-what if I said it was y-you...?"

While Masami had been practically been whispering, those in the room still heard her. Nezu, All Might, and Midnight all looked unfazed by Masami's declaration, but the other two were in shock. While Naomasa's eyes had only widened, Aizawa had completely froze. Masami was honestly beginning to worry that she had broke him when he didn't respond for a couple of minutes.

"I-I broke him!" Masami wailed quietly as she looked towards the others for help.

"I think he's just trying to process it, sweetie." Midnight made an attempt at reassuring her. "He's not broken... Probably."

"How...?" Aizawa's eyes seemed to widen even more as he finally remembered the night he had gotten drunk with Akemi almost 16 years ago. It was their first time meeting up in a while, so they ended up getting a bit more drunk than usual. Aizawa had woken up with a foggy memory the next morning in his apartment. He had been alone when he woke up, but he couldn't remember when he had gone to bed.

Suddenly, everything was starting to make sense to him. He now understood why Masami had been so nervous to tell and why she acted the way she did around him. Now that he thought about it, he was pretty sure that he remembered Midnight trying to drop some hints. It also explained why he got such a familiar feeling when he had seen Masami with her black hair.

It had reminded him of his own black hair.

Meanwhile, her white hair was the exact same as Akemi's.

His mind only went into further disarray as he remembered that Masami had a twin brother. A twin that was most likely dead. All this time, he had been a dad and never knew. He had no idea what to think at this point. Though, he at least knew one thing.

It wasn't Masami's fault.

It was clear that she was terrified of being rejected, and, even now, she was freaking out thinking that she had broken him. Honestly, he was starting to wonder who she got her personality from. She seemed so fragile, though he knew she was probably stronger than him. She was somebody that people just felt the need to protect from the dangers of the world.

And she was his daughter.

"You didn't break me..." Aizawa placed a hand to his head as he felt a headache coming on, but he assured the young girl anyways. "And I'm not mad at you, nor do I hate you. Though..." All Might and Midnight froze a bit as he sent a glare in the direction of knowing three. "I can't say the same for them."

Masami, he could forgive keeping it a secret. The other three, not so much.

"Now, now," Nezu tried to calm him down. "We only did what Akemi and Masami asked of us. There's no reason to get mad."

"I don't really care." The shaggy haired man told him blatantly. "I just... I need some time to think..."

And with that, Aizawa Shota walked out of the room as he made an attempt to clear his head. The others were left in a silence only broken by Masami's sniffles. Well, at least until Midnight spoke up.

"Well... That could have gone better."
