Chapter 22

"Masami-chan!!!" Michiko barreled into me as I walked into the cafeteria. "I'm so proud of you! I can't believe that you actually managed to make it all the way to the final round!"

"T-thank you?" I'm not sure if she realized what a back handed compliment that was... "You d-did really well too."

Now that my adrenaline from the competition had worn off, I was back to stuttering once more. I really need to get over it...

"I didn't even make it to the second round," Michiko rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "Anyways, how did you manage to get the ten million like that in such a short amount of time?! Literally everybody has been talking about it!"

"A-ah, is that s-so?" I sweat drop as I realized going after the ten million was probably a bad idea on my part. It's unlikely that I'll be able to go by unnoticed now... I guess that just means I won't worry as much about trying to stay hidden in the final round! "I didn't do a-anything special, really."

"Hmmm," She gave me a suspicious stare before finally deciding to drop it and chose to sigh instead. "Alright, I won't ask again, but you're eating lunch with me today! We haven't gotten to eat together in forever!"

"I w-wonder why...?" I asked innocently as I looked away from her.

"You know... For someone so supposedly nice and innocent, you can be really cruel..." She sent a playful glare towards me as she crossed her arms causing me to gain a small smile.

"I-I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Now that lunch is over, it's finally time to reveal the last game!" Present Mic yelled as everybody returned from the hour break. "But before that, there's good news for all of you who didn't make it to the finals! This is just a sports festival! So we've prepared recreational games that everyone can participate in, too!"

"That's good news, isn't i-it Michiko-san?" I sent a smile her way.

"Mhm!"

"We've even brought real cheerleaders from America to liven things up!"

"Hmm?"

"Huh?" I furrowed my brows as Yamada-sensei and Aizawa-sensei made sounds of confusion before I finally noticed the girls from Class A... They were in cheerleader outfits...

(I thought you guys might like this↑)

"What are they doing?" Aizawa-sensei asked somewhat incredulously.

"What's the matter, Class A?" Yamada-sensei questioned as though he couldn't tell what happened. Judging from the looks of two of the Class A boys, I can only assume that they were tricked. "What kind of fan service is that?"

"Mineta-san! Kaminari-san!" Yaoyorozu began yelling or at least the closest she could get to yelling. "You tricked us, didn't you?!"

So I was right...

I wonder if I should throw my weighted glove at that Mineta again. Or maybe my shoe...

Then again...

"The outfit is a-actually kind of cute," I admitted as I tilted my head whilst looking closer at the uniform.

"Trust you to have a weird fashion sense..." Michiko sweat dropped causing me to shrug nonchalantly.

"All right, everyone! Let's have fun competing in the recreational games!" A bunch of brackets formed on a screen. "When that's over, the sixteen from the four teams that made it to the final round will duke it out tournament style, one-on-one!"

"A tournament huh?" I muttered causing Michiko to look over to me. "I wonder h-how this will turn out..."

"You seem excited," My friend smirked at me as she likely noticed the look in my eyes.

"I-Is it that obvious?"

"Now, let's draw lots to determine the bracket." Midnight held up a box with the word 'Lots' written on it. "Once the bracket is determined, we'll have the recreational games and then start! The sixteen finalists can choose whether or not they want to participate in the recreation. I'm sure some of you want to rest or save your strength. Now, from the first place team--"

Midnight then went around having each person from the four teams pull lots. I received lot number 5.

"This is the bracket based on the results of the drawing!" We all looked up at the screen as it showed the pairings.

"Ashido Mina...?" I looked around as I tried to catch a glimpse of the person I believe was on Katsuki's team.

"You're Hideyoshi Masami, right?!" A pink colored girl ran up to me in excitement.

"O-oh, um, yes," I gave her a slightly hesitant nod. "I a-assume that you're A-Ashido Mina?"

"Yup!" She cheered. "I look forward to fighting you!"

"L-likewise," I gave her a slight bow of my head before turning to look at the rest of the matchups.

They were as listed:

1. Midoriya vs. Shinso

2. Todoroki vs. Sero

3. Hideyoshi vs. Ashido

4. Iida vs. Hatsume

5. Shoda vs. Kaminari

6. Tokoyami vs. Yaoyorozu

7. Ojiro vs. Kirishima

8. Uraraka vs. Bakugo

Hmm, I may just get to fight Izuku or Shouto...

"All right! Let's leave the tournament aside for a momentary interlude! Let's have fun with the recreation! First is the scavenger hunt!"

"Do you plan on participating in the recreation?" Michiko asked me as the recreation activities were about to begin.

"I-I think I'm actually going to conserve my energy b-before I have to fight," I replied sheepishly while rubbing the back of my neck.

"Alright, good luck in your match!" We waved goodbye to each other before she ran towards where those participating in the recreation had to go.

To be truthful, when I said 'conserve my energy', I actually meant that I was planning on taking a well deserved nap before the tournament began. I don't think anybody will blame me either. I've put in a lot more effort than I originally expected today too.

However, it seemed like the time went by too fast, and before I knew it, the recreational games had already ended.

"Hey guys, are you ready?!" Yamada-sensei asked after Cementoss made the arena that we would be fighting in. The crowd only cheered in response. "A lot's happened, but it's now come to this! A serious battle! You can only depend on yourself! Even if you're not a hero, you'll face lots of situations like that! You get it, right? Heart, skill, body, wisdom, and knowledge! Use all of that to rush up! Audience! The finals that you've all been waiting for are finally starting! Match number one-- Even though he's done well, what's with that face? From the Hero Course, it's Midoriya Izuku! Versus-- His team stole the ten million points in the cavalry battle! From General Studies, it's Shinso Hitoshi! The rules are simple. Force your opponent out of bounds, or immobilize them! You can also win by making your opponent say 'I give up!' Bring on the injuries! Because we've got our very own Recovery Girl waiting on standby! Put your morals and ethics aside for a moment! But of course, anything life-threatening is crap! It's not allowed! Heroes should only use their fists to catch villains! Ready? Start!"

"Who do you think will win?" Michiko asked me as we sat in the audience section that was reserved for our class.

"W-well, as much as I h-hate to doubt Shinso-san..." I started as I watched Izuku rush towards the purple haired boy as he answered his provocations. "Izu-kun w-will most likely win t-this match. E-Even if he is brainwashed, h-he's too stubborn to give up s-so easily."

Michiko only gave a slight 'hmm' as we watched my green haired friend suddenly freeze in place.

"Hey, hey, what's the matter? It's the important first match! Liven things up! Midoriya! The match just started... And he's completely frozen?! He's got a blank look on his face and isn't moving a muscle! Is this Shinso's quirk?!" I think that's a bit obvious... "He didn't stand out at all, but could he actually be someone amazing?"

Does he not realize how offensive that could be...?

"Shinso Hitoshi from General Studies has gotten the better of Midoriya Izuku from the Hero Course!" Present Mic continued. "Who would've imagined this?! Will the bottom really overthrow the top?"

"That's why I said the entrance exam wasn't rational."

"Huh? What?"

"Here's some basic data on the two of them." Aizawa-sensei began to explain. "Since it's individual matches from here on out, I had someone compile it for me." I wonder what he's found out about me... "Shinso failed the practical exam for the Hero Course. Since he also applied for General Studies, he probably knew that would happen. His quirk is very powerful, but the practical exam consisted of fighting faux villains. That gave an advantage to those with physical attack Quirks. Shinso wouldn't have been able to rack up any points with his Quirk."

"Huh?" Yamada-sensei basically ignored what Aizawa-sensei had to say as Izuku began to walk towards the out-of-bounds. "What?! Midoriya's being so obedient!"

He continued shouting as Midoriya continued his slow walk.

"Are you sure that your friend is going to win?" Michiko asked nervously while I stayed calm despite Izuku being so close to the edge.

"H-he'll be fine. I trust in him."

"If you say so..."

I had to smirk as a cloud of dust rose up from underneath the boy. Of course he would injure himself to get rid of the brainwashing. That use of his quirk sent strong winds throughout the stadium at the same time. Seriously though, I think I may have to brush my hair again.

"Th-this is...! Midoriya's stopped!" The crowd began cheering as Izuku finally stopped.

Luckily, he seemed to have figured out Shinso's trick and refused to respond to him anymore. Shinso continued trying to get him to talk until Izuku began to push him out. Shinso didn't give in without a fight though. He managed to get a couple punches in until Izuku ended up flipping him over the line.

"Shinso is out of bounds!" Midnight announced as she held up an arm signaling the end of the match. "Midoriya advances to round two!"

The crowd cheered while I only smiled. I smiled both at Izuku winning as well as the comments I was hearing about Shinso coming from the heroes.

"Looks like you were right," Michiko admitted.

"In the finals, the first person to advance to the second round is Midoriya Izuku from Class A! Yahoo! That was kind of a boring first match, but we should praise them for a bravely fought match. Clap your hands!"

"I should probably go ahead and head to the waiting room," I told Michiko as I began to get out of my seat.

"Eh? So soon?" She looked mildly confused, so I decided to explain for her. "What about the next match?"

"My match is third, and knowing Sho-kun, the next match won't last very long."

"Oh, okay! Good luck then!"

I waved good bye before I made my way to where I remembered the waiting room I was supposed to go to was. However, I had to stop as I saw the one and only Endeavor walking towards me in a bad mood. I could only assume that he had just finished speaking with Shouto.

"Endeavor-san," I nodded my head in greeting at the man as mere politeness.

"Hideyoshi," He looked at me with slight distaste. "I didn't expect for you to be at this school, much less in the General Studies. You must have lost your touch."

"My scores in the previous rounds seem to think opposite," I smirked up at the man as he sneered. "Besides, I don't need to be in the Heroes Course to prove that I'm worth something unlike a certain someone standing in front of me."

"Hmph, it's a shame that you ended up quirkless and with such a poor attitude," He disregarded my words. "You would have been a good match for Shouto."

My mouth dropped at that.

"Excuse me?!" This little, piece of-- "I would say to burn yourself in hell with those flames of yours, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to burn trash. And don't even think about trying to set up Sho-kun in some stupid, arranged Quirk marriage!"

I began to storm off in the direction of the waiting room before turning around to see the man's furious face.

"Oh, and before I forget," I started. "If I hear anything concerning about you from Sho-kun again, I'll make sure that you regret it for the rest of your days..."

"Is that a threat?" He growled.

"It's a promise, and you better remember it!"

And with that, I finally began to head towards the waiting room once more.
