Chapter XVI: Light
May 5 1979
The Time was six twenty two a.m, Carrie and Alex were asleep holding each other's hands as Carrie opened her eyes as she got up and looked around Alex's house. Carrie began having memories of what happened last night as she began hearing voices and screams as she was holding her head. She put her hands down as she let out a sigh until she noticed Alex's bandaged hand as she was shocked by what happened.
Carrie placed her hand on his forehead as she was reading his mind as she was shocked by what happened to his hand.
Apparently when Carrie was at prom with Tommy, Alex was alone at home reading a book until his father showed up and demanded money from him. Both of them began arguing with each other until Alex's father punched him and both of them began fighting.
Alex managed to get the upper hand and beat his father up as he was on the floor. He was gonna grab him until his father grabbed a kitchen knife which was on the table and stabbed Alex on his right hand as he was in pain. His father didn't stopped there and stabbed his hand again before he removed the knife and stole the money which was on the drawer and ran away.
Alex was in his pain and his hand was bleeding as he managed to call an ambulance and take him to the nearest hospital and took care of his injured hand.
But Despite his hand being bandaged up, Alex was sad and angry about what his father did to him. He felt like crying but he stopped himself and tried to do something to cool himself down.
Carrie felt bad for Alex seeing him going through all this pain and she continued reading his thoughts as she read that he missed her and wanted to talk to her again.
Carrie felt like she was gonna cry until she noticed Alex slowly opening his eyes as she looked at him. He was holding his injured hand as he noticed Carrie was staring at him as she began holding his injured hand.
Alex was looking at Carrie as she felt like she was gonna cry again until he hugged her as she began crying as he was comforting her.
Alex: It's okay. . . . It's okay.
Carrie: I'm sorry. . . . .
She cried even more as Alex was holding her hand as he felt his heart hurt seeing her cry. He promised her that he will not see her hurt or see a tear fall from her eye but it happened and he feels guilty about it.
Alex: Carrie. . . What happened to you?
Carrie: I'm so sorry Alex. . . . I'm really sorry.
Alex: It's okay.
Carrie: Truth to be told, The Reason I have been avoiding you is because of my mother.
Alex: What?
Carrie: My Mother. . . . She never loved me. She always wants to see me hurt but when we continued spending time together. For the first time in my life, I was happy and was in peace until Christine told my mother about you.
Alex: Christine. . . .
Carrie: Since then, She warned me to stay away from you and if she caught me talking to you then she will kill me.
Alex's eyes were widen as Carrie continued talking about her mother as he gritted his teeth in anger and slammed his fist on the table which scared Carrie.
Alex: How can she do this to you?!?! She's a monster!
Carrie: Alex. . . .
Alex: Why didn't you tell me about this?
Carrie: Because I was afraid that you will stay away from me.
Alex: No! You don't deserve this pain, You should have atleast told me about it.
Carrie felt like crying as Alex was holding both of her hands as he spoke to her.
Alex: I told you that I'll always be there for you and I will protect you.
Carrie: I know. . . . But look what I have done, My Mother was right. . . I am a monster.
Alex: No! Your not!
Carrie: Yes I am! I killed people Alex, I killed everyone at prom.
Alex's eyes were widen hearing that as Carrie had more tears falling her eyes as Alex noticed the objects around the house began levitating and was shaking violently as he looked back at her.
Carrie: I had these powers when I was a kid, I didn't know anything about it until that incident in the locker room. I read some books and found out that I possess the power of telekinesis and I can lift objects up using my mind.
Alex: That explains what happened in the ferris wheel. . . .
Carrie: Not only that, I can also read peoples mind and find out what they're thinking about.
Alex: You can read my mind?
Carrie: Yes. . . Alex, Why didn't you tell me about your father?
Alex was silent as he began remembering what happened between him and his father last night, He couldn't believe what he did to him and he felt hurt.
Alex: It's over. . . I'm not letting him live in this house anymore. He already hurt me too many times and now it's over.
Carrie noticed Alex felt like he was gonna cry until she hugged him as Alex spoke to her.
Alex: What happened at Prom?
Carrie: Christine and Billy played a prank on me where they dumped blood on me when I was on stage. When Tommy was looking around to see who did this, The Bucket fell on his head and he died. I couldn't believe what was happening. . . . I was tired being humiliated. . . . hurt. . . broken and played. I lost it and killed everyone in the auditorium. When I was walking back to my house. . . Christine and Billy were on the car and tried to run me over. . . but I used my powers to push the car and make it explode killing them.
Alex was shocked by what he just heard as Carrie looked at him and continued talking.
Carrie: But Daniel and Laura didn't attended the prom. . . .
Alex: Carrie. . . . .
Carrie: When I was making my way home. . . I saw you and I thought you were one of those students laughing at me and I wanted to kill you. . . Until I realized it was you.
Alex:. . . .
Carrie: I'm sorry Alex. . . . It's true from what my mother said. . . I am a monster and I always be one.
Alex: No your not. . . . Your not a monster.
Carrie was silent as Alex was holding both of her shoulders as he spoke to her.
Alex: Your still the same Carrie that I first met.
Carrie felt like crying as she hugged him tightly as she said something to Alex.
Carrie: I love you. . . .
Alex: I love you too. . . .
They continued hugging each other tightly as she began crying even more as Alex was hugging her.
Alex: I will never leave you alone. . . I'll always be there for you.
Carrie: And I will always be there for you too. . . .
They continued hugging until they heard the telephone ringing as Alex got up and answered the phone as it was Daniel on the line.
Alex: Hello?
Daniel: Alex! Are you alright?
Alex: I'm fine, What's the matter?
Daniel: There was a fire that broke out of the auditorium and everyone is. . . .
Alex: Oh God. Are you and Laura alright?
Daniel: We're fine, We're actually at her house right now. We didn't want to the prom last night.
Alex:. . . .
Daniel: Not only that, There was also an earthquake and the whole town was in chaos. I still can't believe this all happened last night.
Alex: Yeah. . . Look just take care of yourself, We'll meet up tomorrow. Just rest and take care.
Daniel: You too man.
Alex disconnected the call as he looked at Carrie as she spoke to him.
Carrie: Did he-
Alex: He doesn't know what happened at the auditorium, He thought it was an earthquake.
Carrie: I'm scared. . . .
Alex: Don't worry, I'm here for you.
Carrie was staring at him as he sat down next to her and spoke to her.
Alex: I'll make sure nothing happens to you Carrie.
Carrie: Alex. . . . What about Mama?
Alex: Don't go back to her. . . She hurted you enough, She doesn't deserve you.
Carrie knew Alex was right as she laid her head on his shoulder as they were holding each others hands as they fell asleep after two hours.
