WHITE MUSTANG / chapter seven
——— ₊ ⊹ photoshoot 🪩
( 🏙️ ) manhattan, new york city
———— "SAL, A LITTLE to the left!"
salem listened to indie's suggestion, the loud music they put on echoing in her head as she spun on her heels to the left and sent her friend a funny face, making her laugh.
how she was able to work with her friends so suddenly was a mystery to her. a one of a kind opportunity.
ever since college, the three fantasized about this moment, about the day indiana would take salem's photo for an article that cleo would write. and not for any fashion magazine, but the vogue magazine.
salem never doubted cleo's journalistic skills, she was the top of her course even in college, and the blonde just knew she would get far. and at the age of just 21 she was already a feature writer for the notorious magazine.
but let's not forget about indiana. her love for photography exuded from every shot she took. whether it was a model, a busy new york street, or her girlfriend in the middle of cooking, indiana knew how to make the viewer feel and even hear the photo, as if they were in the exact same place.
"is the dress alright?" salem shout out to her friends, as indiana checked the recent photos she took on the laptop on the table next to the tripod. "gorgeous, babe!" cleo yelled back to contrast the loud dance-pop music, showing the reid girl her thumbs up.
"i'd say a few more shots with this dress, and then we're gonna change to the suit." indiana said, putting the camera back on the tripod and zooming in, adjusting the focus settings.
after another set of photos with the black dress, cleo pushed her friend out the frame, sending her in the changing room with the gray suit and the matching miniskirt on the clothing rack.
"what are you? my personal stylist?" salem laughed, changing in front of the mirror as cleo helped her to get out of the tight dress she was wearing, "you know i've been your personal stylist since our freshman year in college!"
as they left the changing room in indiana's studio — yes, she had her own studio — laughing and giggling reminiscing the good old times, they saw the grimes girl in the company of a taller and elegant man, which salem recognized immediately.
"cam!" she jumped up and down as she ran to him, hugging him tightly. the platonic love that salem had for her manager was on another level, he was more like an older brother to her. they couldn't have been more different, since salem was so open about everything, and cameron was always polished and stern in everything he did. their chemistry was unmatchable, though.
"salem," he smiled, hugging her back, but keeping his usual composure, "how's the photoshoot going? thought i'd bring you girls some coffee." he said, nodding towards the coffee tray on the table.
salem picked up the one with her name on it, and before she could reply, cameron anticipated her, "yes, no coffee. it's matcha latte with almond milk and three quarters of a coffee spoon of brown sugar." there wasn't something in the world that salem reid hated more than coffee. you could have been the worst human being in the world, and salem would have still hated you less than coffee. just the smell of it made her want to throw up.
salem shot him a mischievous smile before going on her tippy-toes to kiss his cheek, something she knew very well he hated, "you're the best, cam." he wiped the kiss away from his face, which was already stained in the burgundy lipstick salem was wearing, "salem!"
the girls laughed, after all, cameron took good care of her. he was always thoughtful and considerate of her, treating her like a younger sister and being there whenever she needed him. she could have called him in the middle of the night, and he still would have found time to answer and solve her problems.
he was a true blessing to her.
"well, i guess i've interrupted you enough, i should probably go—" "no! stay cam, you can watch." salem said, holding his hand to make him stay. he took a sip of his coffee before rolling his eyes, "i don't know, sal. i have work to do."
"just 10 minutes! i need you to monitor the pictures, i trust you more than these two." salem joked, pointing at her friends behind her. "hey, we can hear loud and clear, sal!"
she turned around, sending them a kiss, "you know i love you."
after much convincing from the three girls, cameron decided to stay for a while, watching as salem posed for indiana's camera and monitoring the pictures popping up instantly on the laptop along with cleo, who kept commenting them and saying how gorgeous salem looked.
"you're doing amazing, sweetie!" cleo clapped, as the music came to a halt before another song started. cameron stood behind, watching how enthusiastically cleo cheered for her friend.
salem's eyes were on cameron though, "cam?" he smiled fondly, nodding towards cleo, "she's right, salem. you're amazing."
her grin grew even bigger at his approval, he was probably the only person's opinion about her she cared about in the world. it was fundamental to her.
"okay, sal, i think we can call it a day." indiana said, placing the camera on the table before checking the laptop. she smiled, scrolling rapidly through the pictures, "come check."
the blonde walked around the table, standing next to indiana, who was scrolling the pictures for the other three to see. cleo jumped up and down, holding salem by the shoulders, "oh, sal! i can't wait to write this article!" she said, "well, thank dior for the fits!"
dior must have been cleo's favorite brand, because as she heard her boss talking about an article for the first page, she was first in line to beg her to write it. usually, such a young journalist wouldn't be the one to write such an important article for a notorious magazine, but cleo did it.
the gartens girl looked at the delicate silver watch around her wrist, "oh shoot!" she jumped, running around the room in her heels and grabbing her coat from a chair, the other three looking at her confused.
"where the hell are you going, cleo?" indiana asked, her arms crossed as she stood in her sporty but chic outfit, their eyes running to the curly-haired girl desperately running to grab her bag, "i... uhm, have a date." she confessed
"you what?!" "since when?!" the two girl gasped in unison at their friend's confession. cleo was always one to be pretty independent, despite being a hopeless romantic. the fact she hadn't talked about this mysterious man to them was very weird. "girl, don't think about leaving without telling us!"
in the meantime, cameron just stood back, looking at the funny scene in front of him with a light smirk.
"girls, i just met him, okay?" she said, stopping in front of the door, knowing that her friends would have run after her if she didn't say anything, "it's nothing deep yet."
"for you to say that, it means you're already head over heels for this man." salem teased, her hands resting on her hips in amusement, watching a red hue grow on cleo's face, "what the hell are you saying salem?" she said, wearing her light coat, "indie! say something to her!"
"sorry, cleo, salem is right." she said, enjoying the flustered state of her best friend, "he must be an amazing man."
"god, he is..." she thought out loud, realizing too late the meaning of her words, "fuck! i need to go, okay? i'll update you later." she said frantically before waving goodbye at cameron and storming out the room.
"god, and she just met him." indiana laughed, closing her laptop, watching cameron put on his elegant jacket again, and salem her leather one, "hey, are you going away too?"
"yep." she said, popping the final p, "i have an appointment." she said, before turning towards the armchair to grab her purse. "is that a fancy word for a date? why is everyone leaving?!"
"it's not a date." she rushed, her brows furrowing. no one other than her, cameron and nicholas knew about the deal yet, not even salem's friends — and probably logan too, but at this point salem didn't care.
"i feel betrayed, you are all leaving at the same time!" indiana whined, "don't you have a girlfriend to go home to?" salem talked back, amusement dripping in her voice, "i still feel betrayed."
salem giggled softly, popping a gentle kiss on her friend's cheek before heading to the door along with cameron, "i'll call you later, okay?"
indiana nodded, sending her a small wave before realizing what she was wearing, "sal! you're still wearing the dior suit!"
the blonde turned around, winking at her, "i know!" she said confidently before leaving the studio.
