WHITE MUSTANG / chapter two
——— ₊ ⊹ lie to girls 🪩
( 🏙️ ) brooklyn, new york city
————— "SO HE ACTED like a total bitch?"
salem let out a little snort from her nose, rolling her eyes as she looked at the phone standing against the mirror of her vanity. on display, her friend indiana was doing the same thing as the reid girl, her makeup.
salem grabbed a palette from her vanity's drawer, applying some pink blush on her cheeks, "i wouldn't say a bitch, but it was weird."
indiana nodded, applying her mascara, listening carefully to what her friend said, "it's just... there was tension. between him and logan, i mean."
indiana tilted her head in confusion, focusing for a second on the phone before looking back at herself through the mirror, "what do you mean him and logan? they know each other?"
"apparently," salem shrugged, brushing her blonde hair with a pink brush, "it was like they hated each other, indie. it was..." she couldn't find the right words to describe what had happened between logan and nicholas, "logan kept mocking him and the tension grew more and more—"
"girl, i told you, i don't like logan." indie interrupted her, rolling her eyes at the thought of the model, "something about him is just... a straight-up no."
salem looked down at the drawer, taking a lip pencil out of it, "he's sweet actually, indie. i had never seen him like that though, it gave me a weird feeling."
before indiana could continue, salem's phone started ringing, displaying logan's name on top of indiana's face, "speaking of the devil."
she grabbed her phone, "gotta go, indie. i'll call you back later." and with that she hung up the phone before answering logan's call.
at the same time, a black cat jumped on her lap, plopping down on her as he purred. she scratched his ear, "what is it?" she asked through the phone.
"how long is it going to take you, sal?" the voice on the other line of the phone asked. logan's voice was filled with annoyance as salem raised the corner of her lips subtly when she noticed how impatient he was.
"sorry, i was busy." she lied, playing with the small ball of fluff on her lap, "wait for me, i'm on my way."
the call was cut off by the man, there was something about pissing him off that amused salem to no end.
salem caressed the soft fur of the cat before standing up from the stool, making him jump down as well. she grabbed an elegant coat to top her outfit – despite it being almost june, the weather in new york was still bad, as it often rained a lot. she grabbed a miu miu purse, putting her phone away and swiftly grabbing a dior lip gloss from her vanity before leaving her room.
she made sure the bowls on the floor of the kitchen were full before locking the front door behind her and leaving the apartment complex, waving at the concierge in the lobby.
salem took her sweet time to walk to the cafe where usually she'd meet up with logan before heading to work together. she admired the avenue she used to walk down every day, just to add even more fuel to his annoyance due to her delay.
despite it all, he would never raise his voice at her or tell her off for being late, he wasn't cameron. he always just silently accepted everything she did, holding his irritation inside of him.
by then, salem was almost sure that logan was starting to fall for her. although she would have never admitted it, it flattered her how he treated her and how caring he was.
annoying him was just her way of testing him and his patience with her. how was it possible that he still hadn't broken down after all she did?
as she opened the glass door of the cafe, she scanned around the room only to find a head of brown hair scrolling endlessly on his phone. she walked towards the table where he was sitting, the clack of her heels echoing in the almost empty cafe. she removed a leather glove from one of her hands, ruffling his hair playfully.
he looked up, a small grin growing on his lips when he saw her, "you're here." he pointed towards the chair in front of him, his tired-looking eyes looking straight in her sharp ones, "i thought i'd die here waiting for you."
salem let out a little laugh, "yeah, sorry, i encountered a little setback," a server brought her her usual order, she always got the same thing and the server knew by then. she thanked the guy politely before taking a sip of her hot tea.
logan looked at her, sipping on his espresso, "so, have you heard from cameron yet? he kept calling me early."
she shook her head, the sweet infusion warming her chest as she gulped down the liquid, "i need to ask you something." she said suddenly, interrupting their discussion.
logan's gaze changed, he was suddenly curious. he shrugged, inviting her to continue, "what the hell happened during the meeting?"
the man didn't need further explanation. he looked down, a playful grin growing on his lips. he shrugged, playing dumb, "what do you mean?"
"'i'm not stupid, logan," "i never said that", she tilted her head, he was playing with her, "what is the deal with you and nicholas?" she asked again, her eyes studying every small change in his expression.
he avoided her eyes now, trying to look unbothered by her question. reality was that inside he was freaking out, "nothing," "don't play with me," she said coldly, her tone changing from her usual playful self. she was serious and cold now.
"he just..." logan tried to find the right words, his eyes going anywhere but in salem's, "we used to be friends, he is just... an asshole, trust me."
she narrowed her eyes at his words. it couldn't be just that, "are you sure?"
"yes, sal, of course," he said, dismissively, "you saw him, he is a jerk. he talked back like the short-tempered prick he is."
for some reason, she wasn't buying his version. but for the moment, she decided to leave it at that, "i guess you're right."
the two stood up, heading out of the cafe. it was already late in the morning, they had to arrive at work as soon as possible. she didn't touch the subject of the meeting anymore, but something in logan's explanation didn't leave her fully satisfied.
logan felt the tension between them, "are you still thinking about him?"
she turned to face him, looking up at him, "well, yes..." she said simply, sipping on her tea, "i wanted to work with him, but if he's really an asshole like you said..."
"he is, believe me, sal." logan rushed to say, adding even more to her confusion.
she shrugged it off, keeping her head straight as she walked. by then she was used to walking like she was on a runway even if she was walking down a sidewalk.
as soon as they arrived at the studio, logan opened the door, letting salem in before entering himself. cameron's eyes went from the open laptop in front of him to the pair who had just entered, "god, do you two know what time is it?" he burst out suddenly.
salem smiled, she loved his strict behavior. he contrasted with logan's obedient one. when she did something wrong, cameron made sure to point it out, in good faith of course. he wanted her to be the best version of herself for the public and her image.
"sorry, cam, my fault," she said quickly, leaving her coat on a chair in front of his desk.
"so, you landed a few shootings for next week." cameron said, handing both of them a stack of papers and rambling on about work. shooting here, interview there... they already knew the drill.
logan glanced at her from the side, wondering what was going on in her head. something didn't feel right. he let out a sigh he didn't know he was holding, hoping the girl next to him had bought the explanation he gave her.
nicholas just always had to ruin everything for him.
