Chapter 5
"This is what I thought, I thought you'd need me
This is what I thought, so think me naive
I'd promise you a heart, you'd promise to keep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.."
-AFI
"Well now what?"
Leonardo's accusing eyes dared to glare at Raphael and Michelangelo, the two that had suggested bringing the unknown redhead down here to begin with. Now here she was- unconscious for the second time on their couch, and on top of that she could possibly be a murderer.
"You realize she might have attacked them and that's why they were after her?" He pointed out, completely fed up with the entire situation. He wanted nothing more than to drop her off somewhere, but he knew that since they have no idea where she lived, there was no where safe to really drop her off at.
"Leo, you know damn well that ain't what happened," Raphael replied, his tone just as impatient as his older brothers. "She was probably just defendin' herself," he added with a shrug, too casual with the situation.
"That doesn't changed the fact she killed two people," Leonardo replied, his voice flat.
"And they woulda done a lot worse to her if we hadn't shown up when we did," Raphael pointed out through grit teeth.
What Leonardo hated most about this conversation is his brother was right. He was jumping to conclusions, but all he knew is this girl had killed two men, and that already put her in a bad spot with him.
"She can't be here any longer," he finally said, Michelangelo's eyes widening immediately.
"Dude, what're we gonna do with her? She's still hurt!" The youngest brothers voice was desperate. He had been secretly excited at the idea of gaining another human friend, considering they didn't have very many as it was. Especially since she was a girl.
"Fine," Leo snapped, "Call April. See if she can care for the girl for a couple days or whatever. But she leaves tonight before she wakes up."

When Sarah's eyes finally opened, she was in a completely different place than before. Now she was in what seemed to be a common apartment, with generic furnishings.
"Aye, April! She's up."
Her head snapped around, and she made immediate eye contact with a dark haired male she had never seen before. Panic seized her chest as she sat up on the couch with a jolt, looking around desperately for the exit door.
"Hey, hey! Calm down sweetie, we aren't going to hurt you!"
This voice was more calming, and feminine. Sarah felt hurt shoulders relax slightly as she glanced over, meeting eyes with another redhead. This woman had natural red hair- unlike Sarah's, which was dyed a rich blood red.
"Who are you? Where am I?" She snapped, unsure of what had happened exactly. She remembered those turtles... had it been a dream? If it was, it was the most vivid dream she had ever had.
The woman smiled warmly at her, before slowly making her way to Sarah, carefully sitting on the couch next to her. She then placed a comforting hand on the girls knee, sighing before she explained what happened.
"Casey, my boyfriend, found some guys trying to assault you. He was with some friends at the time, and they managed to chase them off. Casey brought you here, so I patched you up, put some clean clothes on you, and let you rest. How's your head?" She added the last question with genuine curiosity.
However, Sarah couldn't help but pick up on how odd her story was. There was two dozen men.. how many friends was Casey with to 'chase' them off? What friends were these?
"Those turtle guys, you mean?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
It was very subtle, and it Sarah hadn't been specifically looking for it, she wouldn't have caught it, but April flinched. She covered that action quickly though with a halfhearted laugh.
"Turtle guys?" She asked with forced amusement.
Sarah knew she wasn't going to tell her anything, so she decided to just go with it. "Guess it was a dream," she said in a full tone, shrugging as she looked away, deep in thought.
There was four of them. Purple. Red. Blue. Orange. The colors flashed in her mind. It seemed like she was missing some huge detail, but she couldn't mentally figure out what it was.
"Are you hungry?" April's uneasy voice interrupted her thoughts, and immediately she was brought back to reality. Her green eyes lit up like a child on Christmas, her entire demeanor seeming to have changed.
"Yes!"

Three slices of pizza later, Sarah was once again sleepy. April had explained that it was normal with a concussion, which Sarah already knew, so she wasn't too worried about it. What she was worried about, however, was sleeping in a strangers apartment. April and Casey were cool and all, but Sarah wasn't a social person. She had kept to herself for years, because anytime she got close to someone, or tried to, it put them in danger.
Sleeping in the same apartment or house with other people was completely out of the normal for her, and she wasn't sure how exactly she would be getting to sleep due to this. She lay in the dark living room for what seemed like hours, just listening, her anxiety keeping her on high alert.
And that's when she heard it.
"April.."
That voice. Where did she know that voice? She remained perfectly still, her eyes squeezed shut.
"Raph, shh! She's right there sleeping on the couch!" She recognized April's voice whispering harshly at whoever she was talking to.
"Sorry," he replied in a quieter voice. "Mikey kept insisting I come check on 'er. So here I am."
That's when it hit her. That voice belonged to one of the turtles from her dream! It looked like she hadn't been dreaming after all.
"She's fine, Raph. She freaked out when she woke up, but calmed down after we fed her. She thinks she dreamt you guys."
That lying bitch.
Sarah very slowly cracked open one of her eyes, trying to get as good of a look at the turtle man as she could. Immediately she recognized the red bandana, large muscles, and dark green skin. He was perched outside the living room window on the fire escape, looking directly at April as she stood on the other side of the window.
"Well, Leo'll enjoy that one," he replied with a scoff.
Sarah wasn't sure what to do. Part of her wanted to blurt out what she had just seen, but decided to keep to herself for right now.
"Alright, well I'd like to get back to bed, considering I have work in the morning." Her voice was slightly impatient, but mostly innocent teasing.
"Oh, yeah. M'bad. I'll let them know what's up. Thanks April, we owe you big time."
—————————
The next morning, April had made waffles for the three of them, as well as some coffee. Sarah sat awkwardly at the kitchen table, not having sat at an actual table to eat with other people in years. Her feet kept toying with the each other, her legs swinging back and forth a bit. She didn't make eye contact with either of them, until a plate of two waffles were set in front of her. She glanced up to April, mumbling a thank you.
"How did you sleep last night?" April asked, her words careful as she sat down to eat herself, Casey not paying attention to either of them as he watched the news on TV.
"Fine," Sarah replied flatly, poking at the waffles. "What about you? Didn't get woken up or anything, did you?" She asked, glancing April's way to see her reaction.
To her surprise the redhead kept her cool, not giving anything away, except for the fact she wouldn't make eye contact.
"Nope, slept like a baby."
Liar.
Sarah grit her teeth, trying to keep from going off on the woman. The only reason she hadn't, was due to the hospitality she had shown her.
"Oh? What about your late night visit from.. what's his name? Raph?"
When the turtles name left her mouth, April's eyes flew to her, wide with horror. The cat was out of the bag, and now it was Sarah's turn to glare at her.
"Yeah, I was awake. It's shitty to make someone think their crazy, you know. I know they're real, and I want to know what the hell really happened."
April and Casey were both quiet for a few seconds, and Casey was the one to speak up this time.
"Just call the guys, babe. She already knows. Might as well officially meet em." He shrugged casually, unsure of what other options they might have. If the turtles didn't have a chance to explain themselves and show them who she was, she might blab about them, which was something none of them were willing to risk.
April closed her eyes, sighing. "Yeah, I know. I'll call Leo."
