Dammit kid. Why? Why would you do this?
At every checkpoint I saw them at, they had more dust than before. The human slowly grew more and more sickening to everyone's stomachs; it was their walk, their smile. Thankfully, everyone in town had been cleared out to safety before they could do more damage.
I watched Chara in the distance as they shuffled through town. Whenever the movement shifted, a little monster dust fell off of them, leaving a trail with their footsteps. I sighed, silently mourning the killed monsters.
They kept exploring town until they finally reached the mist. It was thick, blurry. I could barely make out their silhouette, theirs and...another....
"HALT, HUMAN!"
Oh no. Oh no. Oh nonononono.
"HEY, QUIT MOVING WHILE I'M TALKING TO YOU!"
This can't be happening.
"I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, HAVE SOME THINGS TO SAY."
This CAN'T be happening.
"FIRST: YOU'RE A FREAKING WEIRDO! NOT ONLY DO YOU NOT LIKE PUZZLES. BUT THE WAY YOU SHAMBLE ABOUT FROM PLACE TO PLACE…THE WAY YOUR HANDS ARE ALWAYS COVERED IN DUSTY POWDER."
But...it is. I know it is. I've seen it before...so many times.
"IT FEELS…LIKE YOUR LIFE IS GOING DOWN A DANGEROUS PATH. HOWEVER! I, PAPYRUS, SEE GREAT POTENTIAL WITHIN YOU!"
Pap... bro...
"EVERYONE CAN BE A GREAT PERSON IF THEY TRY! AND ME, I HARDLY HAVE TO TRY AT ALL!!! NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!!!"
I cracked a sad smile, giving a faint chuckle I know they couldn't hear. The kid was already in too deep.
"HEY, QUIT MOVING! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! HUMAN! I THINK YOU ARE IN NEED OF GUIDANCE! SOMEONE NEEDS TO KEEP YOU ON THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW! BUT WORRY NOT! I, PAPYRUS…WILL GLADLY BE YOUR FRIEND AND TUTOR! I WILL TURN YOUR LIFE RIGHT AROUND!!!"
Papyrus, if only you knew... Would you still have done it? Give this kid a chance?
"I SEE YOU ARE APPROACHING. ARE YOU OFFERING A HUG OF ACCEPTANCE?"
I had a bad feeling in my gut, turning to the side as my eyes still angled towards them. I couldn't bare to watch, and yet I still had a twinge of hope that they would come through. Guess Paps and Cristle have been rubbing off on me.
"WOWIE!! MY LESSONS ARE ALREADY WORKING!!"
I lowered my skull in defeat and anticipation.
"I, PAPYRUS, WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS!"
I shut my sockets, turning away. I winced at the sound of the plastic knife cutting into his bones and battle armor. His skull made a soft thud in the snow. His voice was trembling in fear as Chara walked closer.
"W-WELL, THAT'S NOT WHAT I EXPECTED... BUT... ST... STILL! I BELIEVE IN YOU! YOU CAN DO A LITTLE BETTER! EVEN IF YOU DON'T THINK SO! I... I PROMISE..."
A soft breeze blew by, spreading the dust. Pap...
....
......
.........
see you soon.
I huffed, trying to hold back tears. It would have worked until-
"Pa....py?"
In a fit of panic, I whirled around and saw Cristle, scared and heartbroken, staring at the pile of dust and costume. Her breaths were low and shaky, body trembling as the child's frame shook. That broke me.
I took a deep breath, getting on my knees to look in her eyes. They were swelled with tears that dripped down her cheeks. Without a seconds notice, I immediately wrapped my arms around her, silently breaking. "it's okay....it's okay.", I tried to coax, hearing her shaky breaths as she cried into my jacket.
"No...no it's not.", Cristle muttered, hugging back. I could feel her tears on my jacket. I ran a hand through her ponytail, knowing it'd calm her down. Maybe it was just to calm me down.
Poor kid. I couldn't imagine what's running through her head right now. It's been so long since the first genocide run, I almost forgot how I felt back then. But I probably looked just like Cristle.
"angel, i thought i told you to go home." "I...I got scared.", my daughter admitted. I sighed, pulling apart. "i know, i know. i need to go. please, go back home. go to temmie village if me or grillby don't come get you-" "NO!"
I turned towards her, astonished. Cristle has done many things. But she has never yelled before. I was almost impressed, to be honest.
"I'm coming with you.", she stated in finality. Her grip on my sleeve was tight, and showed no signs of budging. I sighed, looking down at her. "angel, please, i can't lose you too. please, just go somewhere safe." "But if I can't see you, how will I know you're safe?", my daughter contradicted. I hate to say it, she had a valid point. I didn't want my pupils off of her, either.
"...alright. you can come with. but stay with me, alright?", I asked, holding her hand as we walked. She had stopped shaking for the moment as she walked by me. Her light blue eyes drifted back to the white dust and red scarf in the snow.
"...Okay."
