The rumbling sounds of Harleys was loud enough to be heard a few blocks away pulled into the garage of Tool's. The tattoo slash bar was the meeting place for this group of bikers better known as The Expendables. The bikers parked staggered to give way for walking room then dismounted. It was later in the night, the bar and tattoo parlor closed to the public. Only the Expendables and Tool were present.
Tool had a favor to ask, "I hate to do this to you gentlemen, but I need your help." Barney Ross, Tool's longtime friend, sat up straighter. He could see Tool was at war with himself, "What is it, Tool?" The guys all stopped their side conversations and paid attention to Tool. They all can tell he was anxious, which is unlike the bad ass tattooed, sarcastic, rambunctious man they knew. Tool was scared.
"I got an SOS from an old lady of mine, Thea Vagen. One of the few I would go back to in a heartbeat if she'd have me," Tool kept stalling. He ran a hand over his face, rubbing the stubble under his chin. Caesar was getting a little impatient, "Well, what'd she want?" Tool leaned over his tattoo station and pulled out a black and white picture of two young fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. He passed the picture around. It reached Ross last. They all could see the resemblance to Tool. Christmas stood next to Ross, "Congratulations, it's twins." A slight smile could be seen on Tool's face before it dropped, "They're missing."
Tool went on to explain what Thea had told him, "Zheko and Nona were last seen in Budapest before they fell off the face of the Earth. Thea would tell them stories about me, about us and what we do, and they soaked them up like sponges. She told me they were excited about what we do and wanted to follow." Several curses were heard. They sort of felt where this was going.
"They are incredibly smart," Tool chuckled as he lit his pipe. "Thea says they get their smarts from me, but I know otherwise. She was a smart woman. Knew what she wanted to do in life and being around this life wasn't it. But it seems my kids...My kids. Man, that is something I thought I'd never say. Thea told me they're well educated. Nona could run circles around Gunner. Zheko can build anything with scraps. And they both caught MI6 attention at a very young age when they broke down their mainframe just to see if they could."
Toll Road asked, "Do we know what they were doing when they went missing?" Tool shook his head, "Thea knew very little. Only they were in Budapest right before the terrorist attacks last month." "She waited a month to contact you?" Christmas asked. "Yeah. Said they have gone radio silent that long before, but this was different. Normally, Thea would at least get a short message through morse code saying they were safe but got nothing. And that's when she called me. To not only inform me I have kids, but they're FUCKING MISSING!!"
Ross took charge before Tool could blow a gasket, "Alright, let's start from the attacks in Budapest. Pull up all surveillance, ATM cameras, the works." Ross turned back to Tool, who was pacing the garage. Ross stepped into Tool's path, "Is there anything else about the kids we should know?"
"Yeah, yeah. The picture doesn't show it but they have Poliosis and Heterochromia," Tool says. Caesar, not knowing what that was, said, "They're diseased?" Tool looked at the guy like he was an idiot, "No, it's a genetic trait. They have white patches in their hair, and two different colored eyes. Thea's meemaw had Poliosis. It skipped her but Thea has heterochromia. So Zheko and Nona have both." Gunner smirked and Tool saw it and pointed at him aggressively, "Don't even think about it." Gunner threw up his hands in surrender while the others laughed knowing what Gunner was thinking.
The guys crowd around computer monitors inside the garage. All of which have different angles of a bombing outside of a cafe. Ross points to the monitor on the far right, "There. Back up a few and zoom in." The video is grainy, but they could make out several masked men grabbing the twins. "Was the bomb a distraction? That bombing killed 11 people," Caesar scrolled through the footage.
They watched an unmarked, black van pull up and the twins were thrown in. But not without a fight. Three of the captors were now sporting injuries from Zheko trying to get to Nona. They followed the van using any surveillance they could access. It stopped outside of a private airstrip. The markings on the plane were visible, "Crane". Caesar pulled up the name of the airplane, "1979 Cessna 340A. Sold to Jakob Crane in 1998." Caesar digs into Jakob Crane, "Ex-MI6. Oh boy, this guy makes Vilain look like a Saint. His last known location...Budapest."
Tool read over Caesar's shoulder, "He's a heavy runner. Weapons, drugs, trafficking, and this fucker has my kids." Christmas pushed Tool to sit down, "Hey, we'll find them. But first, need to get your head in the game." "Right. Right," Tool fiddled with his pipe. "I'm coming with you," Tool tried to stand up. Christmas made him sit back down, "Whoa, easy. That's not a good idea." Ross spoke up, "He's right, Tool. You'll be too worried to stay focused. We'll find them and bring them here."
"I gotta do something. I can't just sit here on my ass while you guys go get them. I asked you guys for help!" Tool yelled. "And we are helping! You and I both know we can do this! Those kids will be coming home, alright!" Ross argued. They all could tell Tool felt useless, but he has been out of the action for so long, he's rusty. The man just found out he has kids. They're fully grown but still...They're his. How could he just sit while others rescue his twins. "After everything. All the women, booze, tattoos. None of it matters now. I haven't even met them and now there's a chance I may never meet them. And I'm scared shitless," Tool hung his head, his face shielded by his long hair.
For the next few hours plans were laid out. Caesar found the flight plan for Crane. The twins were taken from Budapest to Sardinia, Italy. More specifically, a small island off the northern shore, Santo Stefano Island. The guys split up to get their gear and meet at the Antonov An-2 Biplane. The tin-can has served them well since they acquired it a year ago. The flight is long and grueling; they land on an isolated side of the island in the cover of darkness.
The island has a few villages and one large walled facility with armed guards. Toll Road remarked, "Totally cliche." The guys hummed in agreement. They move forward and scope the layout. Gunner leaned close to Caesar, "How much you want to bet they're in the dungeon?" "Not taking that bet," Caesar shook his head. They were shushed by Christmas as he pointed to a look-out tower with a spotlight. The beam from the spotlight shining over the grounds where they were hiding.
Staying quiet and crouched down, they move to enter the place through a gap in the wall near the look-out tower. The guards weren't paying attention and didn't see six fully armed men dressed in black sneak past. They were able to get into the main building without being detected.
Further in the building, a pair of fraternal twins were being beaten for not cooperating. Jakob Crane had wanted to recruit the young minds to further his empire, but they refused. So, now Crane is resorting to extreme measures. He was going to beat them into submission, but that is proving difficult. Each twin was suffering from broken ribs, broken noses, a few missing teeth, cuts and bruises, heavily drugged with suppressants, and still, they wouldn't submit. The twins were handcuffed and dangling from the rafters with just enough slack for their toes to touch the ground.
Crane ordered his men to electrocute Zheko. Before the guy could pick up the high-voltage cattle prod, a gun was held to his head. Ross held his pistol to the guy's head, "Drop it and step away." The guy was too cocky for his own good. He dropped the cattle prod to pull his handgun, only to receive a bullet to the chest. Soon, bullets were flying.
Zheko and Nona were not so helpless, even with the suppressants pumping through their veins. They used their upper body strength and pulled themselves up to the rafters and got out of the cuffs. They disregarded their injuries and jumped down from the rafters, landing on two of their captors and snapped their necks. "Nice. Here," Christmas tossed Zheko a handgun. Nona cursed in Norwegian as she took one of the captors' guns and joined the fire fight. The twins were running on fumes and adrenaline at this point.
"ENOUGH!" Crane shouted. He had a gun pointed at Nona's head, holding her body as a shield. All the gun fire stopped. Crane ordered, "Drop your weapons or the pretty girl gets a bullet in her skull." Zheko dropped his gun, the others followed. Ross was going to talk the guy down, "Easy now. Just let the girl go." Crane cocked the gun, "I don't think so. I spent years looking for these two. They ruined my career with one swipe." Zheko snorted, "That was you...Whoops."
Crane pointed the gun at Zheko, "Shut up! You are just a couple of stupid kids." Nona took the opportunity to use her filed nails and grabbed his junk harshly, pulling upwards then threw her head back smashing into his nose. Crane released his hold on Nona to cup his crotch with one hand and his broken nose with the other, "You bitch!" He crumbled to his knees from the pain while picking up his dropped gun and fired. Crane shot Nona in the leg as she ran to her brother's side, "Fuckin Hell! That hurt!" Yang clocked Crane in the head with the butt of his gun. They were going to turn him over to Church since Crane is a former MI6.
Once the group reached the plane and took off, Gunner and Toll Road worked on patching up the twins. Ross radioed, "Tool?" "Ross?" Tool acknowledged. "We got 'em. Minimal damage. Need to make a pit stop then we'll be back," Ross reassured his friend. Tool sighed, "Thank you, Ross." "Anytime, brother," Ross answered.
Church made sure Crane would be tried for his crimes and thanked the Expendables. He had heard about their impromptu mission after the fact but glad for the outcome. Church has to admit, this is what the Expendables are good at.
Tool got to meet his only children. It was awkward at first. The three of them knew it would take time to be comfortable with each other. Zheko and Nona decided to hang around for a bit, eventually gaining a spot with the Expendables.
AN: The twins will join TVDU in a couple of chapters. I do apologize if the action sequences aren't that great. And all my WIPs will get done eventually. None have been abandoned.
