CHAPTER 15

Author's Pov:

The night was calm, the air was quiet and still. All the members sat together in the living room of their dorm, unwinding a long day. Everyone was chattering except one, Junhui, who had been quiet for a long time, his gaze distant and mind somewhere else.

Mingyu who noticed this, nudged Minghao, "What's up with him? He has been quiet all day", he whispered. Minghao frowned, "I noticed it too. He's probably tired".

Jeonghan, who was sitting across him, recognised the distant look in his eyes which appeared whenever something heavy weighed in his mind. The laughter and chatter increased but Junhui remained distant.

"Junhui, you good?", Jeonghan's voice broke through the chatter as everyone went silent.

Junhui looked up, startled, forcing a smile he nodded, "Yeah. I'm fine. Just a bit tired. Nothing else".

But everyone knew, that's not the reason. They knew him well enough to see his forced smile. The knew something was off.

After few minutes, Junhui stood up abruptly, "I'm going to get some air", he muttered, not waiting for anyone's response before he headed toward the rooftop.

The room fell into silence as others watched him leave. "Something's really off. I feel it is related to Yerin", Jihoon commented, his brows furrowed with concern. "Me too", Soonyoung murmured.

Jeonghan waited for a moment, debating whether to follow. He glanced at others, who seemed to share same concern, before making his mind, "I'll go check him", he said, standing up.

"Make sure he is okay", Seungcheol said, the worry clear in his voice. Jeonghan nodded making his way to the rooftop his footsteps quiet against the cold floor.

When he reached rooftop, he saw Junhui standing on the edge, his gaze fixed on the bright, full moon above. The soft glow illuminated his face, highlighting the distant look on his face. His quiet and still posture made Jeonghan more worried. As he stared at Junhui, he knew he can't leave him alone. He slowly approached Junhui with quiet steps.

"Junhui", he murmured, his voice soft yet hesitant. Junhui didn't respond immediate, his eyes still locked on the moon. After a few moments, Junhui turned slightly acknowledging his presence. Jeonghan noticed the tears welled up in his eyes, glistening under the soft light.

Jeonghan stepped closer, concern etched over his face. "You okay?", Jeonghan asked softly. Junhui nodded, quickly wiping his tears, "Y-Yeah, I'm fine. I was just lost in some thoughts", his voice trembled as he tried to maintain his composure.

Jeonghan was still not convinced. He could see Junhui's usual strong facade crumbling under the weight of whatever was in his mind. He knew Junhui wasn't one easily to open up, especially about things that hurt him deeply. "It's fine if you don't want to talk about it but if there's something in your mind, something you need to get off your chest, I'm here, hmm", Jeonghan said placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Junhui took a deep breath, his strength weakening under Jeonghan's genuine concern. After a moment he began to speak, his voice low and strained.

"I met Yerin's parents today", he said, "They were....they were kind".

Jeonghan remained silent, giving Junhui the space to continue at his own pace. He knew it wasn't easy for him; every word was likely a struggle against the emotions he had bottled up for so long. Everyone knew Yerin was a sensitive topic for him, so thet barely talked about her, neither did Junhui.

"But seeing them brought back everything", his voice trembled, "It's been 3 years but sometimes it feels like it happened yesterday".

Junhui let out a shaky breath, his eyes closing as he fought to keep his emotions in check. "I try not to think about it, you know? I try to stay busy, to focus on work, on other things but all goes in vain. Everything reminds me of her ".

"It's okay to feel like this", Jeonghan softly said, "You don't need to be strong all the time. It's okay to miss her, Junhui. She was such an important part of your life. No one expects you to just forget her or the love you had for each other".

Junhui nodded, but the tears kept coming. "I thought I was doing okay...But every time something reminds me of her, it's like I'm back to that day when I found out she was gone. I keep thinking how I should have been there, how maybe if I hadn't been overseas, things would have been different. But then I remember that she's really gone, and it just.....it just hurts so much".

Jeonghan's heart ached for his friend. He could only imagine the pain Junhui was going through, losing someone he loved, someone he was supposed to spend rest of his life with. "You can't blame yourself, Junhui. What happened wasn't your fault. And I'm sure Yerin wouldn't want you to carry that guilt with you".

Junhui wiped his tears, "I know....but it's hard. Really hard. I keep replaying that night in my head, the night before her died. She texted me saying how much she missed me, and I thought I'll surprise her by coming early... but when I landed, all I got were missed calls from Haeun and all of you and then....the news".

Jeonghan's hand on his shoulder tightened in support, remembering the day when they got the news of Yerin getting into an accident. They had been excited to surprise Yerin who had been missing Junhui badly, only to hear about her being in critical condition.

Jeonghan could see how much this was tearing Junhui apart, how guilt and grief had been eating away at him for all these years. He could see all the bottled up emotions coming out.

"I wish I could have seen her one last time. I wanted to tell her how much I loved her, how excited I was for our wedding. I always kept my feelings to myself thinking there would be more time. Now, I regret not showing her more often how much she meant to me", he said, his voice trembling.

"We were supposed to get married in few months. She was so excited for it, she had planned everything and then...she was gone. Now all I have left are the memories. I keep wondering if I had been there, maybe none of this would have happened. We would have been married by now, fulfilling our dreams. She would still be alive"

"Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever be able to let it go", Junhui said, his eyes filled with mixture of pain and longing.

Jeonghan's expression softened, "You don't have to let it go, Junhui. You can keep her memories alive in your heart. It's okay to hold on to the love you had but don't let it stop you from finding the happiness again".

"I know it might be hard for you but it's important to remember that Yerin would have wanted you to be happy. She wouldn't want you to spend rest of your life in pain and regret", Jeongham continued.

Junhui swallowed hard, his throat tight with emotions. "It's just so hard. Everytime I think of moving on, I feel like I'm betraying her. Like I'm forgetting everything we had between us".

Jeonghan shook his head slowly understanding his struggle, "You are not betraying her by moving forward, Junhui. You're honouring her by living the life she wanted for you. She'd want you to be happy, to find love again, and to build future where you can be happy without feeling guilty".

Junhui looked down at his hands, which were trembling slightly. The weight of Jeonghan's words began to sink in, but the pain of loss was still so raw, so overwhelming. "I just wish... I wish I could see her one more time. Tell her that I love her, that I always will".

Jeonghan's heart ached for his friend. He knew there was nothing he could say that would ease Junhui's pain completely, but he hoped his words would at least bring some comfort.

"She knows, Junhui. Wherever she is, she knows. And she'll always be a part of you, no matter what".

Junhui nodded, blinking away the tears that had welled up in his eyes again. "I hope so, Jeonghan. I really do".

The two of them stood in silence for a while, the cool night air wrapping around them as they stared out at the moonlit city. It was a quiet moment of shared grief and understanding, where words weren't necessary to convey the depth of their emotions.
