Touching The Sky

Jackson's POV

I love hearing Piper laugh. It's like music to my ears.

"I have an idea," I say, smiling.

"I bet it will be idiotic," Piper signed.

I rolled my eyes and smiled.

I held my open hand towards her. "Come with me."

She shook her head. "We're just friends, remember?" Her eyes looked downwards. "Friends don't hold each other's hands."

"That's not true!" I said. "Friends hold each other's hands all the time!"

"No, they really don't. Plus, why should I trust you? For all I know you could be a murder," she signed, raising her eyebrows.

Why was she so stubborn? "I promise you I'm not a murder."

She shook her head. "That's exactly what a murder would say."

I roll my eyes, impatient. I just want to feel her hand in mine. "Come on, Piper!"

She hesitates for a moment, making me feel nervous. Maybe this is an idiotic idea. Why would she want to go someplace with some boy she barely knew?

She took my hand.

I repeat...she took my hand! I had never felt this feeling before in my life! I felt ecstatic but terrified. Calm but nervous. This girl made me feel everything! My heart was beating fast, my hands were sweaty. I hoped she did not notice.

Her hand felt warm in mine. That soft, warm hand is a complete contrast to my rough, cold hand.

I started walking towards towards the direction of my house. No, I'm wasn't taking her inside my house. It's was way too early in our "friendship" for that. I'm taking her to my backyard, where a surprise waits for her.

"Where are we going?" she signs with one hand, her beautiful eyes starring straight into mine.

"It's a surprise," I said, smiling.

She laughs. "Well that's not creepy at all!"

I roll my eyes for the hundredth time. "For the last time, I am NOT a murderer!"

She laughs, making music to my ears.

I stop at my house. "We're here."

She lets go of my hand. "Wait...are you seriously taking me into your house?"

"No, it's too early in our 'friendship' for that," I say, making air quotes with my fingers.

Her eyebrows knitted together, her nose crinkling. "Why'd you do air quotes when you said friendship?"

We both know this is more than a friendship, I want to say. "No reason."

She rolls her eyes this time.

"We're going to my backyard."

She looked at me curiously, that adorable nose crinkled up again.

I starred at her, thinking that I have never seen anyone so adorable and so beautiful in my life.

"So, are you just going to stare at me like an idiot or are you going to let me into your backyard?"

I smirked, opening the gate to my backyard. "Go in, madam." I gestured towards the backyard with my hand like she was the queen of the world. She really was the queen of the world to me.

She raised her eyebrows. "Do not call me madam ever again."

"Okay, madam," I said, joking.

She rolled her gorgeous blue eyes, and I laughed. My smile was so wide it could stretch across  the sky. She made my heart happy.

She went into my backyard, and I closed the gate behind me. She crossed her arms, looking back at me. "You just brought me to your backyard because of a swing set?"

"Just a swing set? Just a swing set! No, this is so much more than just a swing set. This is where you swing up into the sky, close your eyes and imagine you're in space. This is where you have the time of your life jumping off the swings and landing in the grass. This is where you feel like a child again and you don't have to worry about anything or anyone. This is so much more than just a swing set."

"Well, alright weirdo," she signs, smirking.

She jumps on the swing, swinging high. Her red hair blows in the wind. A  smile bloomed across like a gorgeous flower blooming in the garden. I can't help but stare because she is so beautiful.

I sit on the swing beside her and start pumping my legs.

And then there we were, full of happiness and laughter, and swinging so high we touched the sky.
