When in their course
the fireflies
touch the dark
in long lost eyes
where once the mirth
and myth did meet
sprawling out
at springtime feet;
Will time elope
with space once more
to open up
a hopeful door?

For that which fell
in days long past
and broke the songs
and broke them fast
gave beauty bruises
and honor scars
and drove romances
far apart

If fleeting fancy
is a phase
of children's hearts
on playful days
and all those dreams
are just worthless things
then why do we yet
endure this scene?

Swallow the lightning
in heaven's dream
and reach past storms
and darker things
Wrestle the wind
in the canyons deep
and emerge to take
what we cannot keep

Forgotten now
while we strive;
those times we were
truly alive
when all we had
did not bind us
and fear could not keep
our hearts from trust
