That Moment Of Weakness

Michael's POV

I honestly didn't care about her attitude. The simple fact is she should have told me what happened between her and Derrick, I couldn't believe her, I was upset she didn't think it was a big deal. She re opens the door, clearly not finished with our discussion.

"I can't believe you would actually think that something of importance actually happened between Derrick and I." She says, folding her arms on top of her protruding stomach.

"That's what he told me. It's not unheard of.." I respond.

"Unheard of? It's completely unheard of Michael..I've never cheated on you since we were 19... you've always been the one doing me wrong if you wanna be honest!" She rages.

She wasn't wrong, I didn't treat her that well in the beginning of our relationship. But I refused to allow her to make me feel guilty because of what she did. It wasn't my fault this time, it was hers. She looked at me waiting for a reaction or something to say back to her.

"I know I wasn't the greatest boyfriend growing up, but that's beside the point. You should've told me Derrick kissed you. Period! If you don't understand why, I don't know what to tell you."

She scoffs again, "I really don't believe you.." she heads back into her room shutting the door behind her.

"Daddy!" Camille calls from upstairs.

"Yes baby girl?"

"Can you come watch Peter Pan with us?" She asks. I sigh heading upstairs, after arguing with my wife, I needed to go back to Neverland for a moment.

A few hours later I hear Derrick and Lea walk in quietly. They seemed like they were feeling a lot better and dealing with each other better. "Everything ok?" I ask.

Lea nods sweetly. "I finally listened to him.. he explained everything. We're not back together but we're gonna work on it."

"That's great.." I respond, their relationship was better and mine was worse.

"Mike, I'm sorry about what I said. Rayne and I only kissed, and it was my fault. I was drunk and hurting.. it was a complete accident. I don't even look at Rayne that way.. she's like a little sister." Derrick explains

Now I felt even worse, I owed Rayne a serious apology. I simply nod at Derrick and head into the room where Rayne and I slept, quietly creeping inside.

"Ray, I'm sorry." I say.

"Whatever.." she replies.

"Seriously sweetie.. I'm sorry. I don't know why I got so upset." I sit on the bed next to her, her back facing me.

"Whatever.." she says again. "You can apologize all you want but it's clear to see what you think of me right now."

"I think you're a great woman, an amazing mother, an excellent wife. You're perfect.. nothing more, nothing less.."

"No, you think that I'd cheat on you whenever I have the chance.. I can't believe you. Everything that you've done to me. I stuck with you. But as soon as you hear one false accusation of me, you instantly believe it. An apology is not gonna fix this. You don't even trust me."

"I had a moment of weakness, I'm sorry. I mean isn't it a good thing that I still get upset about stuff like this after so many years?" I ask.

She laughs in annoyance, "so I should be honored? Michael.. go away."

"No. that's not what I meant.." I frown. I admit, that came out completely wrong. At this point I felt like I was just digging a deeper hole for myself.

"Michael I really don't wanna talk to you anymore right now. Let's just get through this trip." She says, her back still facing me.

I simply nod, shutting the door behind me. I was so upset with myself. I let Derrick and Lea's negativity manifest its way into Rayne and our relationship. Just when I thought we were as strong as we ever could've been. I flop back on the couch, feeling like pure crap. This is most likely where I'll be sleeping tonight anyway.

"It's your birthday baby girl!" Derrick swings Isabella around as she giggles. "I missed you so much." He hugs her tightly.

"I missed you too daddy." She grins.

Camille came and sat beside me, she seemed to be just as over this trip as I was. "Can we go home after the party today daddy?" She asked. That didn't seem like such a bad idea.

"We might. I miss home too." I reply. Finally Rayne emerges from the back room her eyes red and puffy like she had been crying all night.  She heads into the kitchen and I follow behind her.

"Still upset with me?" I ask wrapping my arm around her from behind. She nudges me with her elbow.

"Yes" she doesn't even look my direction, she simply pushes me away.

I try and find a way to cheer her up, hopefully take her mind off of what I did yesterday. "Well you may be mad but my son isn't." I kneel down pecking her stomach.

She sighs loudly, "are you done?"

"Rayne I'm trying.."

"I don't want you to.. just leave me alone.." she says walking off.

I didn't think that I'd hurt her that bad. It hurt me that she wasn't excepting my apology. I was definitely anticipating going home tomorrow.

Lea's parents arrived for Isabella's party as well as some of Lea's friends and their children. Rayne made it a point to help Lea out so she could stay away from me.

"Rayne why don't you let me carry that?" I ask, reaching my arms out to grab a gift for Izzy. She simply walks past me setting it on the table. Her face expressionless, like I don't even exist to her.

Lea's parents did not seem too enthused about seeing Derrick back around. Lea mumbled some Italian to her parents causing her mother to roll her eyes.

"My mother never approved of Derrick and I, ever since college.. so you can imagine how she felt when I finally left him.." Lea explains walking towards me. "Now he's back and my mother is unhappy again." She sighs.

I simply grunt a response, to stuck in my own world to think of anything with substance.

"You know Rayne is really upset with you.. she's been talking to me." Lea continued.

"I know.. I apologized but she won't take it."

"She thinks you don't trust her."

"I told her I do.. I just jumped to conclusions. I took the blame. She's just stubborn. She's always been stubborn." I fold my arms.

"Well, you've gotta remember, she's having a kid so her emotions are a little more sensitive than usual. She's honestly really hurt." Lea explains.

Rayne's POV

Doug and Wayne pull in the rest of Camille and I's luggage to the house. I kick off my shoes and massage my temple. "That long flight gave me the worst headache ever." I groan.

"Yeah, I have one as well.." Michael says, carrying Camille inside.

"I'm going to bed.." I say looking at the clock, it was only 7 at night but pregnancy was really tiring me out.

The next morning, in the middle of preparing breakfast with the chef, I hear my favorite song playing, "Knocks Me Off My Feet." By Stevie Wonder blaring on our speaker system in the living room.

I checked out in the living room to see Michael sitting on the floor, looking through old records.

"I thought you were in the studio.." I say quietly. He and I still haven't really said more than two words to each other, and those words were "good morning."

"I was.. I found these records. I wanted to see if they still worked. 'Songs in the Key Of Life' that's your favorite album." He smiles.

I smirk, "it is.. and the song you're playing is my favorite song."

"Really?"

I nod, "yeah..." I attempt to sit next to him, while he helps me down. "Stevie is actually my favorite singer." He knew that, he knew the real way to get to my heart was through Stevie's music.

"You know Stevie is a great artist.. but I'm pretty sure I'm your favorite.. I mean you married me." He grins.

"Only because I met you first.." I grin back.

"Stevie used to bully me in Motown.." Michael says.

I cackle, "now you're just telling lies."

"No really, he did. He used to bully me." He laughs.

"Wow.." I said, he looks at me for a while, almost as if observing my face, a big grin on his. "What?" I ask.

"I'm just glad I got to you before Stevie." He chuckles. "Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without you."

"If you feel that way, why'd you think that I'd ever do something to hurt you?" I ask fiddling my fingers and breaking eye contact with him.

He shrugs, "I don't know.. I just got so upset. I think it was more unbelievable to me. I'd never think you'd do that.. I'm sorry baby." He leans his forehead onto mine, repeatedly kissing my cheek.

"I love you so much. I don't think you understand." He continues, his hand grabbing mine.

I nod in agreement. "I love you too Mike.. so much. I never ever want you to think that I'd ever cheat on you. Ever."

He seals his promise with a kiss on my nose, wrapping his arms around me, we continued to listen to Stevie sing throughout the living room.
