Careless Decisions
~Rayne's POV
I sat with Sharlissa in the breakfast bar by my kitchen. I needed to see her one last time before Michael started his tour.
"You guys are all packed up I see!" Sharlissa says looking at our suitcases lined across the door. "You guys are gonna be gone for how long?"
"A little over a year. I'm excited Camille gets to travel the world. She'll see things I've never seen through a child's eyes. It'll be an amazing experience for her." I grin.
"I want to take Brielle on vacation but her grades just aren't cutting it for me. Maybe next year!" She chuckles, "how have you been feeling since your dad? That's why I came over, I didn't really get to see you after the funeral service and you guys ran off to Brazil so quickly...how are you?"
"I'm fine. It's getting easier day by day.. But I'm so glad you came by before we leave tomorrow." I hug her tightly.
"Of course! You're my best friend! I had to make sure you were ok.. Have a safe trip and don't come back pregnant." She teases.
"Always speaking up babies!" I giggle closing the door behind her.

That early September morning we landed in Prague. In the hotel, Michael was so focused and clearly in his own world, humming his scales and drinking hot tea, trying his best not to talk often so he wouldn't lose his voice.
"Mommy, why can't daddy read me a story today?" Camille asked after Michael instructed her in a whisper to come to me with her book.
She sits in my lap, passing me her story book. "Daddy has to sing in front of thousands of people tonight so he wants to make sure he can sing perfectly like how he sings you to sleep." I explain. Camille never understood why her father was such a big deal to people; and, I don't think she ever will until she's older. There were times I'd see his fame annoy her.
"I wanna see daddy sing!" Camille smiles.
"We will later on tonight!" I say beginning her book.
Once we get to the first show backstage, Michael was more talkative than he had been since we landed. "Bill, please watch my girls.." He demands. Bill gives an understood nod as Camille jumped at the sound of her father's roaring fans.
Michael hops in place, his eyes wandering through the cracks of being under the stage, trying to get a peek of the audience.
"Nervous?" I giggle.
"Of course not. I'm never nervous. Just...anxious." He smiles.
"Michael we need you." Kenny Ortega says rushing past him.
Michael kisses me quickly and looks at Camille with wide eyes. "Give me good luck?" Michael asks, puckering his lips. She kisses him sweetly giggling. Bill leads us to the side of the stage where we could see him. A few paparazzi met us there trying to grasp snapshots of Camille watching her father but Bill wasn't having it. The most they could get was the back of her head
"Get the hell from back here!" Bill yells.
She was in awe of the whole show. No matter how many times she's seen the rehearsals, I don't think it adds up to the energy from a real show. During a small break, Michael ran back to switch into another outfit. "Daddy are you tired?" Camille asked as she watched, sitting on his dresser in front of his mirror.
"Not tired yet Millie. Are you sleepy?" He tickles her stomach briefly.
"No" she giggles. "Daddy can I go out there?" She asked pointing at the audience.
Michael contemplated for a while. "Oh Mil' I don't know.. Ray what do you think?" He asks.
I look over at Bill, "Do you think it's safe?"
"Don't worry, she's safe with me.. I'll be sure of it." He reassured me and Michael.
"I don't know..." I groan
"I'm ok with that.. I'll see you onstage" he winks before running back on stage. I watched as my baby sang along with her father, Bill held her on his shoulders clapping her hands with the fans.
I could hear her cheers over the sea of people in the audience as the show ended. Michael ran alongside us his face touching Camille to peck her cheek.
"Ew daddy! Your face is all wet!" Camille whines, swiping her cheek.
"It's sweat. I just performed!" Michael explained, she looked unconvinced and still disgusted. "I'll wipe it off later I promise!" He wipes her cheek, chuckling.
It's madness traveling with Michael, but in a foreign country, Madness can't even describe how hard it is. We can barely get inside before someone tries to grab one of us. I'm sure It's terrifying for a kid.
We get inside the hotel suite as I get Camille ready for bed. Michael jumps in and out the shower, and began toying with the fans, sticking a hand, his fingers or an inch of his face out of the curtains. He turns, "Camille, wanna come say hi?" He smiles.
"Mike are you sure??" I ask, he wanted her to stay under the radar so I was confused.
She grins running into his arms. I don't think she was expecting as many people to be outside of her bedroom window because once she saw all those people she couldn't even focus and quickly ran back into my arms.
"Michael Michael!" They chant.
Michael opens the windows and the whole
Crowd goes crazy.
I sat in the bedroom reading as Camille slept, stirring slightly in her sleep. While Michael bonded with his fans.
Once it had gotten pretty late Camille
woke up from a loud yell. "Mommy why are they so loud when they see daddy?" She mumbles I started to answer her until I realized she started dozing off again. "Stop yelling!" She grumbles again.
"Mike, you're fans are waking up Camille:.." I announce.
Mike looks back at Camille, "she looks asleep to me."
I roll my eyes. I loved the relationship he and his fans had with each other and I would never want to stop him from interacting with them. But, with his daughter being asleep, it was slightly annoying that he didn't show a care that the noise was bothering her.
He pokes his head out the window once again, giggling causing his fans to create another loud burst of energy, this time she woke completely up. "Daddy can you please tell your friends to go to bed?" She whines pulling her pillow over her ears, kicking her legs in frustration.
He looks at her for a moment.. "Ok baby. I'm sorry."
He grabs a hotel pillow and begins to write. "You all are amazing fans, I love the love you show me. My wife and daughter and I want to get rest.. Thank you and I love you all. Love Michael."
He tosses the pillow over the side of the balcony and shuts all the windows closing off the fans cheering and most likely, fighting over the pillow Michael just tossed, allowing the three of us to sleep peacefully.
~Michael's POV
A few months into the tour, things had gotten tense between Rayne and I, for some reason. We were constantly arguing about the most minor things. One morning before we moved on to the next city, I wanted to visit the zoo, but Rayne disagreed.
"Michael, it'd be different if it were planned out.. But to go on a whim like this is just unsafe." Rayne says, pushing the rest of Camille's clothing in her suitcase.
"I think we'll be fine, honestly. Bill and Leroy will be there along with our new guys Wayne and Doug. I think we'll be protected just fine. Besides, I don't want this to just be a tour. I want Camille to learn from this as well."
She looks at me unconvinced, but as she began to continue to disagree, Camille walked in, causing Rayne to stop mid sentence. We didn't like to argue in front of her.
"I'm ready daddy." She gleams, proud of herself for placing her shoes on the right feet.
"We may not go 'Buggy'" Rayne starts.
"We're going. We'll be fine." I smile. Rayne gives a fraudulent smile back, covering her frustration with me.
"I really dislike how you don't take my opinions into consideration.." Rayne mumbles in the car.
"Why do you have to make everything an argument?" I question, "I mean literally everything I suggest, you shoot it down."
She groans, rolling her eyes and looking out the car window. "You only think of yourself and I'm tired of it."
"All of this because you don't wanna go to the zoo.. Who's really thinking of themselves???" I ask back,
"I'm thinking about all the things that you aren't.. Like safety! You're gonna do what you want so this conversation doesn't matter." She puts her hand up ending the conversation.
I hate when she closes me out. "How many times do I have to say we'll be fine?"
She ignores me as we pull into the zoo.
I place a surgical mask around my nose and mouth while Wayne and Leroy allow Camille and Rayne out.
"Stay close Camille.." Rayne sighs, clutching her hand closely.
Wayne stood in front while Leroy and Doug took our sides and of course, Bill stayed behind us. At first it was only a few people here and there speculating who I was. Then while we were looking at the elephants it happened.
"What sound does that animal make Millie?" I ask, carrying her on my hip.
"Meow" she giggles goofily, I chuckle loudly "that's not right silly"
She places her arm in front of her nose like an elephant trunk and brays loudly. "Daddy take your mask off so you can do it too!" She says yanking off my mask.
"No no no Camille." Rayne says. Before I could place it back on someone spotted me.
"Michael! It's Michael Jackson!!" The young woman states running towards me. Bill pushes me to run the opposite direction while Wayne pushes Rayne. I jolted with Camille in my arms towards the exit of the elephant exhibition. Next thing I knew paparazzi were flashing from everywhere.
A mob of fans waited for us at the front gate and as we passed through roughly, I heard Camille squeal loudly then she began crying.
Once safe in the car I placed Camille in her seat wiping her tears. "I'm so sorry baby, I know that was scary."
Rayne sits next to Camille, "are you ok?" She ask frantically, checking each hair on her head.
"My arm hurts." She whines, sniffling.
"Your arm?" Rayne frowns.
God please don't tell me she got hurt from this trip. Rayne will never let me hear the end of it.
Rayne raises Camille's arm before she screeches in pain.
"Bill, can we find the nearest hospital? I think Camille sprained her arm."
"Are you sure?" I ask nervously.
Rayne simply gives me an annoyed look as an answer, prompting me to sit back in my seat.
***
Bill took Camille inside without us. It would draw less attention.
I chewed my bottom lip, the silence in the car killing me slowly. "She'll be ok.." I sigh.
"She got hurt.." Rayne says quietly shaking her leg in irritation. "She shouldn't have gotten hurt.. She wouldn't have gotten hurt had you just listened to me."
"You're right." I groan.
"Now I'm right. It took our daughter sitting in a hospital to realize I'm right." She scoffs.
"I'm sorry Ray... I really am. But you're talking to me like I don't care about my child and you know that's not the case at all." I fold my arms.
"You're not acting like it. You're acting reckless. I know you want Camille to have a good time but now she's hurt because of careless decisions."
"I'll admit, this was one careless decision out of a million."
She scoffs and rolls her eyes away from me.
"Why are you acting like this? Things happen!" I exclaim.
"Michael you haven't taken into consideration my feelings, my thoughts, and- you've just been VERY selfish lately."
"I'm selfish because I want to take my daughter to the zoo and spend time with my family other than in the hotel room? Ok Rayne." I scoff
"You don't even realize how you've been basically brushing off my feelings." Rayne yells, she's never been so angry that she yells, at least not at me.
"I'm not gonna talk to you like this." I respond.
"Whatever, you don't have to talk to me at all." She growls back.
Bill brings Camille back in the car passing her off to me to place in her seat; her arm dressed in a sling..
"It's just a dislocated shoulder, whoever grabbed her, pulled her arm out of the socket. She's ok, nothing's broken." Bill explained, climbing into the driver seat.
"Thank you Bill. Baby are you ok?" Rayne asks
Camille nods her head quietly? Adjusting her arm in her sling. She leans on her my lap as falls asleep on the ride back.
Bill looked in his rear view mirror, "everything Ok?" He asked
"Fine." I responds shortly. "Just relieved Camille is ok."
