Blake
~ the incident part- two ~
"Hi guys," I greeted them shyly.
"Heey!" Jane and Lea drawled simultaneously.
"Nice house Blake," Will complimented, as he pushed past me into my house.
My voice shook unwillingly when I spoke,"Uhh we could write in the living room if you guys want to, or we could-"
Drew rubbed the small of my back soothingly, with a warm smile, "Hey don't be nervous, we could do it in your living room."
"Ok," I breathed, taken off guard.
We entered the living room and I took a seat on the couch with Lea and Jane. Drew and Will took the black leather recliners. I hadn't realized I didn't ask Mom if I could have company over. I know that they'll be out before she gets home so I didn't have to worry myself.
"Ok, have you guys read the-"
"Blake I'm starving," Lea whined.
"Yeah what do have in here to eat?" Jane chimed in, her eyes roaming wall to wall.
"I have some snacks in my pantry," I suggested.
"Great I'll come with you," Lea sprang up from her seat, pulling me along the way. A series of whispers swept the room as we exited.
When I opened my pantry, I salvaged for all the snacks as Lea stood beside me.
"Drew is definitely crushing on you," Her voice was hushed.
"I don't really think so," I truthfully told her as I laid bags of chips on my countertop.
"Well I think so, you'd be cute together," She winked. I shook my head in response before I called the rest to the kitchen.
While everyone fiend for their snacks like barbarians, I noticed Will peering out the kitchen window. His arms folded across his chest.
"Ever been in those woods back there?" Drew asked.
"No I've never been, I-I'm too scared," I admitted, immediately regretting it. So much for being cool.
"Aw why? It's not like anything bad is going to happen," Jane shrugged care-freely.
"Yeah c'mon you'll be fine, we'll be with you." Lea encouraged.
"It'll be be fun," Will finally spoke. It was too hard to turn them down. They'd just use their persuasiveness to erode my answer.
"Let's go," I finalized my decision.
*
Leaves and twigs snapped under my feet as we deepened into the forest. I kept looking back to get an idea of how far we were from my house. My face contorted in confusion when I could not longer see my house in the distance.
I kept telling myself not to fret because they knew where they were going. Tall ancient oak trees towered over us. With vibrant leaves sprouting from each little branch. I ran my fingertips over the rough bark of the trees.
"Blake, c'mon!" Lea shouted.
I had fallen behind from marveling at the wonders of nature. All this time I was too afraid of even stepping foot into this forest. Terrified I should say. I jog to catch up with the rest of the group.
"There's a little creek that we like to come to just up ahead," Jane pointed.
"Yeah I'm telling you, this place is Tumblr worthy," Lea added. As we neared the creek, I could hear the satisfying sound of water flow along with the refreshing scent of fresh water.
"Wow," I whispered in awe. Water trickled down a wall of various shaped rocks at a steady pace leading into a small pool below.
"Sit," Jane patted a seat next to her. We all laid back against the trunk of a tree that scraped the sky.
"It helps if you close your eyes and just...think," Will recommended.
When I did, I felt at ease, everything was so zen and peaceful. A calming silence loomed over us. It seemed that we were sitting with our eyes closed for a lifetime but it had only been a few minutes.
"You're right this does help," I agreed, breaking the silence. But I got no answer. I was at least expecting someone to hum in agreement.
"How often do you guys do this?"
I'm left again with no answer. Nothing but an earful of the creek and the occasional songs of the birds. I opened my eyes to see that nobody was with me. It's like they all disappeared into thin air. I had just been speaking into the air this whole time.
I cautiously got up and started to look around. I tried my best not to worry. My breathing became uneven as I slowly walked around, my eyes scanning every part of the forest. I strayed farther and farther from the creek. Though I walked slowly, my mind raced with wild thoughts I couldn't rid myself of.
"Guys!" I started to call out for them with an unsteady voice. Did they really leave me? They were nowhere to be found! I had no clue where I was either. Everything looked the same, just trees and sky.
"Guys this isn't fun-" I'm quickly cut off by my body being harshly yanked back.
I tried to scream, but it was immediately muffled when a cloth was smacked against my mouth and nose. The strong chemical scent of the cloth shot right up my nostrils. I struggled to get out of the grip, but my captor had a death grip around my waist. I felt like all my innards were being displaced.
I continued to struggle until my vision started to gradually fade. Before I knew it, my vision was totally lost and I was pulled into a deep dark state.
