Evangeline stared at Whisper.

"What are you talking about, sweetie?"

"The baby," Whisper said, quickly.

"The one in your belly."

.

Evangeline looked confused.

She attempted to talk, but no words came out, just sounds.

"I'm sorry," Whisper said, apologetically, "you probably did not want to know that, did you? Most people want it to be a surprise."

.

Evangeline walked back to Whisper's bed and sat down with her, again.

"Sweetie, that is a really strange thing to say."

.

Now Whisper looked confused.

"I'm sorry. You didn't want to know, did you? You wanted it to be a surprise?"

.

"Its not that, Whisper. Its just that ...

I can't have a baby."

.

Whisper put her hand on Evangeline's belly. She smiled, as she looked up at Evangeline.

"It is just starting, but it is a baby."

She laughed slightly, as she continued to stare at Evangeline's belly.

"It really does look like a peanut. A little."

.

Evangeline put her hand on her belly.

"Its not possible."

.

Whisper sat back.

"Why isn't it? Did you and Daddy do something wrong?"

.

Evangeline did not know what to say.

.

Whisper giggled.

"I do know where babies come from. "

.

Evangeline decided not to even get into that conversation.

She put her hand on Whisper's.

"Sweetie, it would be nice. I would love to have a baby with your Daddy, but the doctor's told me there was no way."

She took a deep breath.

"I can't conceive a child."

.

Whisper looked back at her belly, shrugging.

"Then I think you need a new doctor, Mommy, because, you are going to have a baby."

She looked up at Evangeline.

"And, it is going to be a girl."

.

Evangeline got up from the bed, slowly. She suddenly felt like she was in a daze. Slowly, she walked to the door, still making strange sounds.

"Good night Whisper."

.

"Are you okay, Mommy? Did I say something wrong?"

.

Evangeline shook her head, as she turned back to Whisper.

"No, sweetie. Ah ...

I am just ... a little confused."

.

"Why?"

.

"The doctors ... they all said."

.

Whisper appeared in front of Evangeline.

"People can be wrong sometimes, Mommy, even doctors.

And people who deserve good things, usually get them. Maybe ...

maybe that was why you had to meet Daddy?

Maybe he is a good thing for you?"

.

Evangeline nodded, fighting back the tears.

"Maybe," she smiled.

She hugged Whisper.

"Night, sweetie."

.

"Night Mommy."

.

Outside the door Evangeline leaned against the wall and put her hands on her belly. It couldn't be. How would a little girl know something that the doctors had told her was impossible?

But then Whisper was not simply a little girl. She was a spirit, a guardian angel.

.

Evangeline's mind was in a turmoil. It simply could not be. They all told her it was impossible.

She was late, but that was not unusual for her, especially when she was active.

.

A slight smile came to her face. Maybe it was true.

She rubbed her belly. It would be a miracle.

But then, sitting down and talking to a Spirit ... couldn't that be considered a miracle?

.

She knocked on Whisper's door.

"Can I come back in for a minute?"

.

"Of course, Mommy," Whisper called through the door.

.

She opened the door and looked toward the bed.

Whisper was sitting on the bed, reading an Archie comic.

"Did you forget something, Mommy?"

.

Evangeline sat at the foot of the bed.

"No, I didn't forget anything."

.

"Then what's wrong?"

.

She stared at Whisper.

"Are you sure? I mean, I don't know, how you would know such a thing, but ..."

.

Whisper looked at her very seriously. "I am sure."

.

Evangeline fought to catch her breath, as the reality began to settle in.

"A baby," she whispered.

.

Whisper nodded.

"Yes, Mommy. A baby."

.

Evangeline started crying.

.

"Are you okay, Mommy? I thought you would be happy."

Whisper was concerned.

.

Evangeline nodded.

"I am sweetie. More than you could possibly ever know, but can you do me a favour?"

.

Whisper smiled.

"Of course. Anything for you."

.

"Don't say anything to your Daddy.

At least not yet."

.

"Why?"

.

"Because I want to be sure. Does that make any sense?

Its not that I don't believe you, its just ..."

.

Whisper nodded and smiled. "Don't worry Mommy, I wont say a thing. I know this must be a shock to you. I know you want to check with your doctor again.

That I do understand."

She giggled.

"But I do think you should get a new doctor."

.

Evangeline smiled.

"I think I will."

.

Whisper floated over to Evangeline and kissed her on the cheek. "I will wait until you tell Daddy."

.

"Thank you sweetie."

Evangeline got up from the bed and left the room.

.

Will was standing at the living room window, staring out into the darkness.

He turned as Evangeline walked into the room.

"You want a glass of wine?"

.

She shook her head.

"No. Not tonight, love. Maybe just a glass of orange juice."

.

Will nodded.

"Orange juice it is."

He kissed her, noticing the strange look on her face.

"Oh no. Whisper didn't destroy something again, did she?"

.

Evangeline shook her head.

"Not at all. We had an amazing talk."

.

"Well, you will have to tell me all about it."

.

Evangeline put her hands on her hips.

"I don't think so. Us women have to have our own little secrets, you know."

.

"Okay," Will laughed, as he went to the kitchen and poured Evangeline a glass of orange juice.

"Wouldn't want you to break the bro code."

.

"Bro code," she laughed.

"Is that the best you could come up with?"

.

"Dame game?

Chick click?

Woman coven?"

.

"Quit while you are ahead, Will."

.

"Probably should," he agreed.

.

She was sitting, on the floor, in front of the fireplace, when he returned.

He passed her the juice.

"Are you okay?"

.

She took the juice, smiling.

"I don't think I have ever been better."

.

He sat by her side.

"That sounds promising."

.

She sipped her juice.

"I love you, Will Templeton.

And I love our daughter."

.

"Whisper?"

.

Evangeline rubbed her belly slightly, without Will seeing.

"Of course Whisper. What else would I mean?"

.

Whisper put down the comic and sat back on her bed.

Tears filled her eyes.

"I love you, Mommy and Daddy."
