Whisper sat on her bed staring at the wall. Will had gone to Corner Brook, again, to replace even more item that had been destroyed.

Whisper had done as she promised and over the past couple days, she had returned all the albums back to their proper jackets and even put them all back in the exact spot they had been before.

Will was amazed at her ability to do so, but then she was guardian angel.

.

Now, alone, she was deep in thought, her future growing gloomier by the minute..

.

Spirit and Ghost jumped on the bed and both started their little dance.

.

Whisper forced a smile and half-heartedly petted them.

"Not right now kitties. I'm not in the mood."

.

The cats stopped dancing and walked up to Whisper, one on each side of her. They kneaded the comforter for a few seconds and then they both laid down, one on each side of her.

She petted the cats, gently. They immediately started purring.

.

"What am I to do kitties? If Daddy and Evangeline get together, then I will have to leave."

.

Both cats began to growl.

.

"SSSShhhhh. But if they don't, Daddy will be so sad. He loves Evangeline so much and they will make me return anyway.

And then Daddy will be all alone."

Both cats began meowing a sad howling sound.

.

"I know kitties. What am I to do?"

.

The cats got up, turned and sat, facing Whisper.

.

She petted both of them. "And I will miss you guys so much."

.

There was silence. Both cats simply stared.

.

"I love Daddy so much and I want him to be happy. Evangeline makes him so happy and I know she loves him too."

The cats turned their heads as if trying to understand.

"And even if I split them apart, they are still going to make me return. They have a power over me. I can't fight it."

.

Whisper floated off the bed and stood on the floor. She began walking across the room.

Ghost and Spirit jumped on the floor and followed near her feet.

"I don't know what to do. I wish I knew what was the right thing."

.

She walked to her computer table. There on the desk was a picture of Will. She picked it up and stared at it for a long time.

She could feel sadness build in her.

"They are going to make me go back anyway. They have made that clear. The question is, do I go back with Daddy still loving me or hating me for what I did to him?"

.

She put the picture back on the desk.

The cats were sitting at her feet.

"What should I do kitties?"

.

They both jumped up on the desk and in turn rubbed their heads against Will's picture, knocking it flat on the desk.

.

Whisper picked the picture up and hugged it to her chest.

"It's not fair, you know. I just want to be happy to. So why do I have to be the one to lose everything?"

She put the picture back on the desk and walked back toward her bed.

She floated up and sat on the edge, her legs dangling.

"I thought I would be here forever with Daddy, but I guess once you are dead, things change."

.

The cats joined her on the bed, one on each side of her.

"I want Daddy to be happy, but the little girl in me is so mad.

Mad at not being a real little girl, mad at the stupid white room with Calvin and Alice, mad at the voices, mad at having to make these decisions, mad at Evangeline and even mad at Daddy."

.

She heard someone in the house. A smile came to her face.

"Daddy's home."

.

She disappeared from the bedroom and appeared at the end of the hallway near the kitchen.

The front door opened. It was not Will.

.

The smile left her face.

"Evangeline."

.

~~~~~
.
I was in Corner Brook again. For the third straight day in a row, I was back in the city, buying things.
The day before, I had bought myself a Toyota Tacoma pickup, like I had promised myself a long time ago. It was perfect and the enclosed box, gave me so much more room to put all the things I had to buy. There was a lot more things to replace than I had originally thought.
.
I had just parked in the mall parking lot, when my cell phone rang. It was Evangeline.
"Hey."
.
"Hey you. Are you feeling any better?" She asked, cheerfully.
.
"A little. Still trying to get things in place."
I laughed slightly. It was good to hear her voice. We had not connected as much as we had hoped, over the past couple days, as Evangeline was extremely busy.
"But I think this will actually be the last trip."
.
"The house looks great. I'm amazed you were able to get it back in shape so quickly."
.
My heart stopped.
"You're at my house?"
.
"Yea, I came right here from St. Anthony. I wanted to surprise you," she laughed.
"Surprise."
.
I was certainly surprised.
"Get out," I snapped.
.
"What?"
.
Idiot.
"I mean, why don't you wait for me outside. How did you get in, anyway?"
.
"You gave me a key, remember. Will what the hell is wrong with you. Look if you don't want this thing with me then just say so."
.
"No. No."
I was quickly going into panic mode. Even though Whisper and I had many long talks, I was still not sure how she would react to Evangeline.
Especially if she were alone with her.
.
"No what Will? No you don't or no you do?"
.
"No, I do."
What was I saying?
"I guess I was just surprised that you are at the house. I forgot I gave you a key and....
Hell, I'm sorry Eva, it's just this whole thing got me a little rattled."
I had to pacify the situation.
.
Her voice went back to normal. "That is understandable. If I had come home to the mess you did, I would have freaked."
.
"Honey, you did and you did freak."
.
She laughed. I loved her laugh.
"It's ok. Listen, are you still in Corner Brook?"
.
"Yea, I am at the Valley Mall."
.
"Can you do me a big favour?"
.
"If I can," I said, still more than a little nervous that she was at my house.
.
"I was looking in your Sears catalogue and I saw this great set of lamps that would be perfect for your bedroom, to replace the ones that were broken. Maybe you could pick them up."
.
"Sure."
.
"Thanks. I will give you the number and page number. It's the easiest way to...."
Her voice trailed off.
.
"Eva, what's wrong?"
My heart was starting to pound.
.
"Just a sec hun. I can't find the catalogue. I was sure I left it on the coffee table in the living room. Hmm. Maybe I took it into the kitchen with me."
She laughed slightly.
"Maybe I am losing my mind as well."
.
I could hear her moving around.
.
"Ok, that is just weird. I can't find it."
.
"It has to be there somewhere," I tried to assure her, while in my head I was really starting to worry.
.
"Ok, now I am getting freaked again. I think there is someone in the house with me."
.
"WHAT? Why do you say that?"
.
"I put my purse on the kitchen table, like I always do and it is gone. So is my jacket."
.
I was now worried. What if Whisper had another episode? Evangeline could get hurt.
"Get out of the house Eva. I am on my way."
.
"Ok, I'm leaving, but I am calling the cops."
.
"NO," I yelled, without even realizing that I had.
.
"WHY NOT?" Evangeline yelled back.
.
"Please Eva, just leave the house. I will explain everything when I get there."
.
"Will, what the hell is going on?"
.
"Just go outside, Eva and wait for me.
I will be there before you know it and I will explain everything."
.
"If I am still here," she snapped.
The phone went dead.
.
"Shit," I yelled, slamming the steering wheel of the truck. I started it up again and backed out of the parking stall.
.
Whisper looked at the three items on her bed, the catalogue and Evangeline's coat and purse.
"Am I doing the right thing?" she wondered, aloud.
