I sat back on my stool and looked at the four faces in front of me.

"Okay? Did I do something wrong?"

.

Hank laughed.

"No, me son. Youse did ev'rythin' right."

He passed me an envelope.

.

"What is this?"

.

"Well, ifin youse open it, you will see," Cavelle insisted.

.

I opened the envelope. It was a simple thank you card.

When I opened it, a cheque fell out.

I picked it up.

It was for $100,000.

"What is this?"

.

Hank was all smiles.

"Tings 'ave been goin' really gud, Will boy. And we didn't need da extra money, so we be returning it to you."

.

I put the cheque on the table and took a drink of my beer. I didn't want the cheque.

I had told them that I did not want the money paid back, but I knew I had to handle this situation properly or I could really insult or hurt them. And that was the last thing I wanted to do.

I took a deep breath.

"This is amazing, but ..."

.

Cavelle put her hand on mine.

"I knows you said youse didn't want da money back, Will, but wese didn't feel right about keepin' da money, ifin we don't needs it.

And Will, wese are doin' gud."

.

Hank joined in.

"Wese just don't feels right about keepin' da money. Wese, not dose type of peoples."

.

I stood up and hugged all four of them. They were good people and I really loved each and every one of them.

I wiped the tears from my eyes as I sat back down.

"You guys are amazing."

.

Elaine pulled her chair next to me.

"Youse are family, Will. And family doesn't do wrong by family.

Youse believed in us and we can't tell you 'ow much dat means to us. And 'specially to me. I didn't know what I wanted to do wit me life and I could see me leaving' 'ere, but now 'cause of you and Eva, I 'ave a trade dat I can do.

I 'ave already started 'elping other businesses 'ere with their websites and now I can see meself stayin' 'ere."

She kissed my cheek.

"Youse made dat possible, Will."

.

I wiped my eyes again.

"Okay we need more beer and less tears."

I laughed.

"Sounds like the title of a country song."

I had to break the tension.

.

And it worked.

They all laughed as well.

The waitress brought us all beers and I proposed a toast.

"To the continued success of the Oceanside Motel."

.

A cheer rose from the whole bar.

Apparently there were no secrets in Twillingate.

.

I had to laugh. Twillingate so reminded me about Maynard's Rock.

No wonder I felt so comfortable and at home here.

But I still had the cheque to deal with.

.

"So, Billy. What are your plans?"

.

He started blushing. Apparently I had hit upon something.

"Well, me and Darlene jest got ingaged, a mont' ago."

.

Darlene was Billy's girlfriend forever.

I reached across and shook his hand.

"That is amazing. So when is the wedding?"

.

"As soon as wese gits enuf money together. Darlene wants to go to Mexico and git married on da beach."

.

I sat back and smiled.

I knew what I was going to do.

"So did you have a timeframe in mind?"

.

"Were were t'inkin' 'bout da new year. Maybe January or Feb'rary."

.

"And you want the whole family to go?"

.

Billy nodded.

"But Darlene 'as 4 brother and 2 sisters and deres like 23 of dem in dere family. Not likes our little family."

.

"So how many all together, from both families?"

.

Billy thought for a moment.

"Dere be 'bout a 'undred of us, Will."

.

I took a pen from my pocket and signed the back of the cheque.

I slipped it across to Billy.

"For your wedding."

.

As I expected, there was immediate pandemonium.

I just sat back and finished my beer and watched, as the four argued with each other and with me.

Finally, I put my hand up.

"Okay, enough."

.

Hank spoke.

"Will, me son. Were can't be lettin' youse do dis."

.

I took the cheque back and put it in my pocket.

"I know. I am sorry."

I took out my cell phone.

"I just need a minute here."

I walked outside. I still had all the banking information for the company, so it was easy.

I transfered $150,000 to both Billy and Elaine's accounts. Couldn't give to one, without the other.

.

Cavelle was at the bar, so I ordered more drinks as I walked back inside.

I passed her the signed check to pay for the drinks.

"Keep the change."

.

She was about to say something, but I stopped her.

.

"You are family. And family don't do wrong by each other."

.

Her eyes immediately filled with tears and she leaned across the bar, taking my face in her hands and kissing me quickly on the lips.

"You are family, Will."

.

I had one more drink with them and then excused myself. It was late and I had plans in the morning to take Whisper sightseeing.

But it was such a beautiful night, that I decided to have a little fire.

As soon as I started the fire, Whisper appeared next to it. She loved fires.

.

"Ghost and Spirit want to come out too, Daddy."

.

I opened the door, to actually go inside and get my scotch and cigars, but the moment I did, the two cats bolted outside.

"You keep an eye on them," I reminded Whisper.

.

"I will, Daddy."

.

I got a bottle of scotch and a pack of White Owl cigars. They still reminded me of Sheila, but she was doing well and had even found herself a new man.

I was honestly happy for her.

.

When I walked back outside, I saw Whisper and the cats near the fence line, that skirted the edge of the cliff.

.

As I poured my scotch I thought about Evangeline.

Hearing her name mentioned earlier, by Elaine, really affected me in a way I didn't expect. I had only known her for a short time, but there was a connection.

I drank my scotch and lit a cigar before pouring another one.

Deep inside, I hoped she was doing well, but a little part of me still missed her.

I watched, as Whisper went through the fence and stood on the other side, teasing the cats.

.

"Be careful out there."

.

Whisper giggled.

"You worry too much, Daddy. You know I can't hurt myself."

.

I just shook my head.

.

Spirit jumped against the fence and started climbing it.

.

I jumped up.

"Okay, all of you. Away from the fence."

.

"Do ya tink they will listen?"

.

I turned to see Cavelle walking around the corner of my cabin.

.

I laughed.

"Hopefully."

.

Whisper started running across the small field, the two cats following.

"There, see. They do actually listen once in a while."

.

Cavelle nodded.

"Youse made me two kids very 'happy, Will. And me and 'ank as well."

.

"Well, it was the least I could do."

.

"No, me son. It was more dan you shud 'ave dun, but we 'ppreciates it."

She gave me a long hug.

"Youse be a gud man, Will Templeton."

.

For some reason I was beginning to feel a little nervous.

I didn't really know what was happening.

.

She looked at the drink in my hand.

"You sharin'?"

.

I nodded.

"Sure thing."

I went inside to get her a drink and when I returned, she was sitting in a chair next to mine.

I poured her a drink and passed it to her.

.

She thanked me and sat back in the chair.

.

Whisper was standing about five feet in front of her.

.

'Maybe you should take the cats and go inside,' I suggested to her.

.

"Okay, Daddy."

.

Cavelle leaned forward.

"So. What be your name, little one?"
