Bobby, Jessie and I did not get together that week, as they were tied up with a family get together.

We made plans for the following week, but Sunday night there was a knock on my front door.

When I opened it, Bobby was standing there.

.

"Hey buddy, I did not expect to see you until next week. Come on in."

.

Bobby came in, looking around the foyer.

"We finished up with the family, this afternoon, so I figured I might pop over and have a beer, if you are not busy.

.

I closed the door behind him.

"Not at all."

.

He was still looking around.

.

"What are you looking for?"

.

"Is she here?" Bobby asked quickly, peeking around me, up toward the hallway.

.

Whisper appeared next to me.

.

"She is right here by my side," I told him.

.

He stepped back a little.

"Ok. This is still freaking me out, but I promised Jess I would try to understand this."

.

I started up to the hallway, next to the kitchen.

"Sweetie, will you get us a beer?"

.

Bobby joined me, just in time to see the refrigerator door open and two beers seemingly floated to us.

Whisper passed me the two beer.

"Thanks sweetie, but don't forget to close the door."

.

"Sorry, Daddy," she quipped, as she ran back to the refrigerator.

The door closed, quickly.

.

I passed the beer to Bobby.

He examined it. "There are no strings."

.

I slapped him on the back, laughing.

"Come here."

We stood at the end of my hallway. There were 6 doors, that we could clearly see.

I looked at Bobby.

"Watch this."

I turned to Whisper.

"Sweetie will you open the doors?"

.

She giggled and walked off. I watched as she opened each door.

Bobby turned pale and took long drinks from his beer.

She stopped at the end of the hall and waved at me.

.

I waved back to her.

"You can close the doors now, sweetie."

.

We watched as, one by one, the six doors closed. A couple, a little too loudly.

.

Whisper giggled.

"Sorry, Daddy. I just got a little excited."

.

I smiled at her.

"That's okay, sweetie."

.

I thought Bobby was going to faint. He slowly walked to the living room, in a bit of a daze and sat down. I brought him another beer.

.

"There really is a ghost here, isn't there?"

.

I opened my beer and sat in my favourite chair, next to the fireplace.

"There is. Although, I don't look at her that way anymore. She is my daughter."

.

Whisper appeared next to me, sitting on the arm of the big plush chair.

.

"What does she look like?" Bobby asked.

.

"She is absolutely beautiful. Shoulder length blondish white hair, the prettiest face you have ever seen and a smile that lights up a room. And I mean that in the most literal sense."

I turned to her.

"And right now, she is wearing jeans and a baggy t-shirt."

.

"Why can't I see her?"

.

I shook my head. "I honestly don't know., Bobby. Even Whisper doesn't understand why."

.

He pointed to my chair.

"She is there, with you."

.

The cats ran into the living room and immediately started doing their dance.

.

Bobby pointed at them. "They see her?"

.

"Absolutely. Anytime you see them do that dance, Whisper is nearby."

.

"Aren't you scared, man?

I mean, like when you go to bed at night."

.

I laughed slightly and shook my head.

"What would I be scared of? This beautiful little girl that I call my daughter? Besides, she knows she is not allowed in my room, without permission."

.

"You keep calling her, your daughter." Bobby questioned.

.

"Yea," I nodded.

"She calls me Daddy. I told you that, before."

.

He nodded. "I know, but this is all so unreal. It still kinda freaks me out.

I mean, you are living with a ghost."

.

I nodded.

"As far as I am concerned, I am living with my daughter. She is my family, along with Ghost and Spirit."

.

Bobby laughed, nervously.

"That is one strange family, my friend."

He took a deep drink from his beer.

.

Whisper appeared in front of him, staring intently at him.

.

Bobby suddenly sat back a little.

"She is in front of me, isn't she?"

.

I nodded. "About a foot, or so, from you."

.

"Shit."

.

Whisper giggled.

"He said shit, Daddy."

.

"And so did you, young lady."

.

Whisper put her hands over her mouth.

"Oops. Sorry Daddy," she said in a muffled voice.

.

"What did she do?" Bobby wondered.

.

"She has a bad habit of repeating bad words."

.

"Shit, that was my fault, wasn't it?"

.

I laughed.

"Don't worry about it. She knows the difference, but she still pushes the envelope, when she can."

.

Whisper turned and looked at me.

"What envelope?"

.

"Its just an expression, hun," I informed her.

"It means you push things to the limit sometimes."

.

She mouthed the word, 'Oh', once again covering her mouth.

.

I looked back at Bobby.

"Put your hand up, for a second."

.

He did so and Whisper held it.

Bobby smiled a nervous smile. "I think I feel her touching my hand. Its like a feather or a silk hankie."

.

Whisper smiled and touched his face.

.

He put his hand up, looking at me.

"Did she? Did she just touch my face?"

.

I nodded. "She did."

.

"He can feel me Daddy," Whisper remarked, excitedly.

.

"He can sweetie."

.

"What did she say?" Bobby wanted to know.

.

"She was commenting that you could feel her touch.

She is smiling and rather excited about it."

.

Bobby looked straight ahead. "I can Whisper."

A tear fell from Bobby's eye.

"This is amazing. Really. Freaky and amazing."

.

Whisper hurried off to the refrigerator and came back with two more beer.

.

"Thank you," he said as he took it.

.

She came to me and passed me one as well. As I opened my beer, I remarked, "just don't ever ask her to open them. She makes such a mess."

.

She stood there, with her arms folded, glaring at me.

"I don't have to stand here and take these insults."

She quickly disappeared.

.

I started laughing.

"I think I pissed her off. She just disappeared."

.

I heard her giggle.

I knew I didn't.

.

Bobby let out a deep breath and sat back, watching as Spirit and Ghost ran out of the living room.

"Maybe its the beer, or maybe its just that I don't want to lose my best friend, but I suddenly feel a lot more comfortable."

.

"She has that effect on people, Bobby. Like I said, she is an amazing little girl."

.

He raised his beer.

"To an amazing little girl.

To Whisper."

.

Bobby did become comfortable with Whisper, as did Jessie and I knew her secret would be safe with them. I did not want to lose them as friends and they felt the same way.

.

I did go out and buy her a guitar, mandolin, bass and ukulele, just so she could make them sound funny, as she played with them.

Once she got them, she stopped putting all of our instruments out of tune. Well most of the time.

.

But every now and then, her sweet voice would appear on one of our recordings.

We left it there.

We simply gave a background singing credit to Whisper.
