A half hour later, we finished the tour of the house, upstairs and we were back in the kitchen again.
.
"Anyone want another beer?"
.
All agreed and I got 4 more beer from the refrigerator.
"Lets go sit in the living room for a little while."
.
While they admired my book and record collection, I started a fire, in the fireplace.
.
Bobby was looking at an album.
"This is an unbelievable collection Will. Just how many records are here?"
.
I shook my head.
"I really don't know," I answered, honestly.
"Somewhere in the vicinity of 10 - 12 thousand."
.
He held up the album. It was Uriah Heep's, Demons and Wizards.
"My Dad had this album. I haven't heard this in years."
.
I took the album and put it in the nearest turntable. Soon the music to 'The Wizard' filled the room.
.
Sheila was looking at some of the books.
"These are classics," she remarked.
.
I nodded.
"I used to be an avid reader, but ...
well life got in the way."
.
Jessie put her hand on my arm.
"You have an amazing house here Will. You say, you designed it yourself?"
.
I nodded, while drinking my beer.
"I worked with an architect, but the layout is all mine. There are more rooms on the lower level. A recreation room and a laundry room and a cold room.
Then there is another sub-level, where I have a recording studio."
.
Bobby nearly choked on his beer.
"You are a musician?"
.
I nodded.
"I am not very good, but I mess around with all kinds of instruments."
.
"Now that I would love to see."
.
"Sure."
.
Jessie stopped me.
"No way. If Bobby gets near that, you will never get him away from it."
.
"Like you would be any different," he smirked.
.
Jessie agreed.
"That is why we are not going downstairs today.
Maybe when this is all done, Will might invite us over to play some music."
.
I nodded.
"Sounds like a plan."
.
Sheila walked to me and put her arm through mine.
"So, I am sure Bobby and Jessie would like to see what you have in mind for them to do."
.
Jessie smirked.
"I think someone is trying to get Will all to herself."
.
I know I was blushing.
.
Bobby pointed at my face.
"Nice shade of red."
.
Jessie hit her husband.
"Leave him alone. Like you were any better when we started to date."
She laughed.
"Mom and Dad used to call him Indian Joe, because his face was always red."
.
We all laughed, except for Bobby.
"Yea, yea. Pick on the mentally challenged."
.
"Anyway," Jessie continued, holding the empty bottle to me.
"Let's have one more beer, check this job out and then we will mosey on back to the village and leave these two love birds alone."
.
I started to the kitchen, quickly, so they would not see my fire red face.
Actually the thought of being alone with Sheila, excited me, but at the same time, scared me to death.
Its not that I was a virgin. Having money did make you more attractive, but I was not any Casanova, by any stretch of the imagination.
And the prospect of being with Sheila, alone, was a little terrifying.
.
"You okay?"
.
I never even realized I was leaning over the sink, staring down.
I nodded.
"Yea."
.
"That does not sound too convincing," Sheila commented, as she walked over next to me.
"You look a little nervous."
.
I nodded.
"I am not used to this whole dating thing."
I turned and looked at her.
"I'm a little scared."
.
She kissed my cheek.
"We can take this slow, Will. We have lots of time.
But I would like some time alone with you, just to get to know you a little better."
She put her hand on mine.
"If, indeed, I am reading the signals right here."
.
I nodded.
"You are. I want some time with you too."
.
She kissed my cheek again.
"Then relax. Let's go and see what it is you want done, so Bobby and Jess can start planning the job.
And when they go, we can have a drink and talk for a while.
Okay?"
.
I turned to her. She was so beautiful
I kissed her gently, on the lips.
.
She put her hand to my cheek.
"Now, was that so hard?"
.
I smiled.
.
"Ah. We can come back later, if you want," Jessie joked.
.
I shook my head.
"No. I really need to get this job done. Or, I really want to get it done."
I started off down the hallway to the room, next to mine.
"Right this way."
.
The four of us went inside.
.
"A spare bedroom?" Jessie wondered.
.
"Kind of," I nodded.
I had planned a story to cover up what I was doing. Not only from Bobby, Jessie and Sheila, but from Whisper as well. Just in case she was listening somewhere.
I hated lying, but the truth would be much harder to explain. And even if they did not think I was weird in the beginning, trying to explain that I was fixing up a room for a ghost.
Well, they would probably have had me committed, locked in a rubber room and the key thrown away.
"I have a niece, who might come to visit in the spring and I would like to get this room fixed up for her."
.
Bobby looked around the room.
"It looks fine, just the way it is. I can't imagine what you would want done to it."
.
"Well," I laughed.
"My niece is a special little girl and I have to do some special things to the room."
.
Jessie stared at me, strangely.
"You are sounding really weird, right now, Will."
She sipped her beer.
"You aren't some sort of pervert, are you?" she joked.
.
I took a deep breath.
"She is mentally challenged, somewhat and she has other issues."
.
"Will, I am so sorry," Jessie apologized.
"I was only making ..."
.
I put up my hand.
"Its okay, Jessie. I know I come across a little strange sometimes, but I have always been a bit of a loner. And my niece is special to me, so I want to make this room as special as I can."
.
"When will she be coming?" Sheila wondered.
.
"Sometime after Christmas. I am not really sure. A lot depends on her health.
I just want the room ready for her."
They seemed to be accepting the story, even though I did not like the lying part.
.
Bobby nodded.
"Sounds good. Okay, Boss. Tell us what you want."
.
Over the next half hour or so, I explained my vision of how I wanted the room.
Bobby and Jessie, both offered their own ideas and even Sheila had a few ideas.
Between the four of us, we came up with a strong working plan.
.
Bobby took a deep breath.
"It will be tight, Will, but if you give us a hand and we keep at it, I think we can be finished by the 23rd.
Christmas Eve at the latest."
.
"The 23rd," Jessie added, quickly.
"We are at your parents on Christmas Eve."
.
Bobby nodded.
"That's right."
He looked around one more time.
"I will go into Corner Brook tomorrow and pick up everything that we will need."
.
"Do you want a cheque, or some money?"
Bobby shook his head.
"We have an account at Stan Dawe's. I will put everything on account and we will settle up, when the job is finished."
.
I was excited.
"Sounds like a plan to me."
I shook Bobby and Jessie's hands.
"Thank you both, so much."
.
Bobby laughed.
"Wait 'till you see our bill. You might not thank us then."
.
I shrugged.
"Whatever you think is right."
.
Jessie started for the bedroom door.
"Well let's get on the road, old man and let these two lovebirds have some time together."
.
Sheila and I walked them to the door and hugged both of them goodbye.
.
Once I closed the door, I turned to Sheila and kissed her.
.
"What was that for?"
.
"Just had to get that out of the way," I laughed.
"Those awkward silences are torture."
.
She agreed, kissing me again.
"So. Do you have some red wine?"
.
I nodded.
"Would you like to share a glass in front of the fireplace?"
.
She smiled.
"You must have been reading my mind."
