"And why would you two, of all the damn people in this town, need my help?" I snarl, angry at this encounter.

"I need help to look better for colleges and Ashton needs help with his reputation," Liam explains simply, as if for the 13 years they'd known me they hadn't been my most ruthless, arrogant bullies. As if they really think I could just forget the hell they put me through and help them.

"I won't help you," I say calmly, hoping that because I denied their offer they wouldn't beat me up later.

"We can protect you," Liam says. His voice is desperate.

"From what? Yourselves?" I snap. They blink, surprised at my attitude. The nerve of these two to bully me for 13 damn years and then come in here with a proposal like this one. Ashton's hands curl into tight fists and my heart skips a beat. Is he going to hurt me? Right here in front of everyone?

"But we need you," he growls angrily, slamming his fist on the table. I jump at the sound and a few people turn their heads.

"Calm down, Ashton," Liam snaps at him before turning his head back to look into my eyes.

"I'm not helping you," I spit, starting to stand up. I take a step away from the table. "Not after everything you've done to me. So hit me, beat me, punch me, I don't care. But there's no way in hell I'd help you."

"Jackie?" Liam's voice cracks as he calls after me. I turn my head to look into his beautiful eyes. So sad, so pained. But it's nothing c moated to the way man me have been frozen for most of my life. His eyes are glassed over and he's biting his lip. Even cold hearted Ashton looks like my walking away is a bullet to the heart.

"Please," Ashton whispers. "Please."
