thank you for loving me when i still tasted of heartache and war
TWO DAYS LATER, and Maddie was met with a surprise — a good one at that. She had just walked downstairs after having a very hot shower, wearing leggings and a blood red crop top that has a spider brooch, along with converses. Her hair flowed down her back in crimped waves.
Right when she turned to go into the kitchen, she spotted Dean, Sam, and Castiel eating breakfast that she guesses her dad had made before he left for work.
"Castiel!" The redhead squealed loudly, running towards him, pulling him into a tight hug, her arms around his waist.
"Madelyn," Castiel greeted with a smile, kissing her forehead. "How have you been, little one?"
"Not too bad, angel," the redhead said, still in his arms, looking up at him with big bright brown eyes.
The Angel stared at her, curious and fascinated. "I can see it. Your aura." The redhead moved back from him slightly, brows furrowed. "It was always around you; faded red and moving in waves. Now, it's steadier and a darker red, surrounding you fully, protectively. That's why you were able to hold your own against opponents most of the time, even if you went in recklessly."
Maddie simply blinked at him and then grinned. "That's why I have been able to hurt the Cold Ones even though, at this point, I should probably be dead." She then shrugged, "eh. The fights were fun though."
Dean and Sam just stared at her before busting out in laughs. "Are you referring to your first attempt at assassinating them?"
She crossed her arms as she fully pulled away from Castiel. "Yeah. Went in with my head stuck up my ass. But hey, I got in a few good blows. Now I can easily take them down if necessary."
Dean chuckled and walked forward, pulling her into a hug. "I see that you haven't changed a bit."
She breathed in his scent and wrapped her arms around him tightly. "You just saw me not that long ago, Dean-O."
He rolled his apple green eyes at her before pulling away, and like a magnet, he was instantly at Castiel's side. "So? I still missed you, little red."
"How is everything, Mads?" Sam asked as he was the next one to pull her into a much needed hug. "With your... magic, and all?"
She smiled and pulled back from him. "I got it under control. I mean, other than using it to throw Edweirdo and Jakey-poo around, it's been under wraps."
She winced as she remembered her training session with Jasper. And not only that, but yesterday, Edward and Jasper had tag-teamed her. While Jasper threw emotions at her, Edward used his mind-reading capability to through images — images that haunt her — at her. The rest of the Cullen's, and even Bella, had stood nearby enough to watch as everything had unfolded.
Madelyn, of course, got the hang of it all — after flinging both sparkly dicks around a few times.
So, Dean, Sam, and Castiel being here now, was really refreshing, and it made her mind and heart calm down.
BUT OF COURSE, nothing good lasts long for Madelyn Swan-Winchester.
Madelyn sat across from Dean and Sam, Castiel at her side, eyes wide as they just got done explaining what they had found out about her and Angeline — the witch who tried to kill her for the Scarlet Witch power.
"Th-there is no way," she muttered, hands shaking as she lifted them up to run through her hair.
Dean sighed softly. He was the one that didn't want Maddie to find out about this, knowing it would hurt her in many ways, but Sam and Castiel was the ones who knew that she needed to know, and would get angry at them if they didn't tell her right away. So, here they were, informing her that Angeline, the psycho witch who tried to sacrifice her, was in fact her biological mother.
"The warlock we found this out from, was once upon a time a lover of hers. He was the only one she told about you, but he could never track you down for himself to know if she was lying or not," Sam informed her, watching as various emotions went through her face. "We also found out that..."
"That your mother was Crowley's aunt, his mothers sister," Dean told her quickly, almost as if he was ripping a bandaid off.
Maddie's head turned so quick, blot dots appeared in her vision. "What?" Her voice cracked. "I'm related to—" she stopped short, inhaling deeply and loudly. "Did Crowley know? Is that why he always tried to befriend me?"
Dean and Sam shared a look before shrugging. "We have no clue."
Castiel shook his head, "Crowley is a family man. If he knew, he wouldn't gave himself away."
Maddie swallowed thickly, clenching and un-clenching her hands on the table. "So what I am hearing is that my mom is some... bitchy witch who has been alive for hundreds of years, abandoned her family — yes, Crowley has went on long rants about his stupid family to me — and then somehow gets my dads attention, then have me, just to abandon me like her first family, and then had the audacity to try and sacrifice me for some magic?!" She slammed her hands on the table.
They were so lucky that pretty much no one else was in the diner except for a few workers that Maddie easily swayed with her magic to make it seem like they weren't even there. Therefore, it was like they didn't even exist in the diner; not seen or heard. Well, except for when they first came in and ordered, before the Winchesters decided to dump everything on the redhead at once.
Dean winced, swallowed thickly, and then continued speaking, "while your mother was hellbent on finding power, wanting to be the best there ever is, she..."
"Spit it out, Dean," Maddie demanded, almost hysterical at the news already, so what else could he add to this scenario?
"She was also possessed by a demon years ago that read her mind and was hellbent on finding you... and killing you." Maddie's breath left her lungs. "And while we do not know if it was her own intentions that wanted to kill you, we do know that the demon wanted you gone."
"All because I'm—" Maddie clenched her teeth together so hard, she's surprised her teeth didn't crack and fall apart on her mouth. "All because of some prophecy?!"
Sam winced and nodded, "seems so."
Castiel frowned and stared at the side of Maddie's face. "You said that there was glasses of blood surrounding you in the ritual. And when you killed her, everything seeped into you. The demon and witches energy mixed within you, Madelyn. That might be another reason why your magic is so—"
"So crazy?" Maddie whispered angrily through clenched teeth. "First my life gets ruined by a bunch of wendigo's, and now it's because of my power obsessed mother who was also possessed by a power hungry demon that tried to kill me. That is so... so messed up!" She yelled and jumped out of the booth, her magic pushing chairs and other tables away from her. Said magic swirls wrapped around the waitresses and knocked them out into a deep sleep.
"Maddie..." Dean trialed off ad the three grown men slowly got out of the booth.
"Are you really telling me that... that not only do I have some very chaotic magic in my body, but also..." her voice broke off, a wet laugh came out of her throat as she tried to hold back from crying. "That there is some demon essence as well?" She forced the word out, legs feeling like pins and needles, heart thumping loudly in her chest, throat feeling raw from holding back the sobs that wanted to escape.
Memories of being possessed, and watching through the eyes of the demon as it killed and tortured and hurt people for days. Memories from her time in hell when she was ruthlessly tortured and maimed for years on end.
And now she possibly has some demon essence inside of her right now because she killed the witch — her mother! — which resulted in her aura/powers being sucked into her like a fucking vacuum!
Maddie shook as the men who she loves like brothers carefully stepped closer to her. "I-I can't. I can't do this right now."
And then she was out of there so quick that all the Winchester's did was blink.
Castiel turned, "well, that went lovely."
Dean and Sam just stared at him.
MADDIE FINDS HERSELF running in the woods, crying, her magic wrapping around her like wisps, pushing everything out of her path much like the trees moved on their own in the movie 'Narnia'.
She crashed into someone's chest, and immediately, she melted into their arms, sobbing into their chest.
"Sh, it's alright, Maddie. I got you " Paul's soothing voice sounded, and he wrapped his arms around her tightly, rubbing her back, kissing the top of her head. "Baby, what's wrong? What happened? Are you okay?"
Maddie clutched to his skin, nails digging into his back, but he didn't mind. "I just..." her voice broke off and she cried louder, hiccuping now. "I just found out that my... the witch who tried to kill me was my... my biological mother," she finally got out, sensing him tense and then tighten his hold on her even more.
"Oh, sweetheart..." he trailed off, slowly lowering them to the forest ground, so he could pull her into his lap, cradling her against him. He looked down at her, soft brown eyes twinkling in the sunlight through the trees. "The things you've been through..." he trailed off, sighing softly, pulling her closer to him that they were practically one person at this point. "You don't deserve any of this happening to you."
She cried into his neck, moving her arms to wrap around his neck, her body now sitting in his lap with her legs on each side of his. "I must've pissed someone off in a past life of something," she joked through her quiet cries.
He chuckled softly and rubbed her back, pressing a kiss against her forehead. "You're really strong for going through this, Maddie. I don't know how the world keeps throwing these obstacles at you, and you keep moving forward as if they were boulders you can easily punch through."
She shrugged and sniffed, gazing up at him. "I'm used to it at this point."
He frowned and caressed her face, pushing a piece of hair out of her face. "You shouldn't be used to it, love."
She giggled against his shoulder, a hiccup escaping her mouth just barely a second later. "It's so funny to hear that word come out of someone that's not at least a little British," she said and laughed even louder when he simply just pouted.
After a few second of silence, Maddie sighed heavily and looked up at Paul, fiddling with the rings on his fingers. "I don't understand why I'm the one with the prophecy. I just want to be left alone and stay in Forks with my family... and you. I don't want some stupid prophecy to hang over my head. A prophecy I can barely decipher because it's in some old language. It's all just... bullshit."
Paul hummed, watching her fiddle with his rings and fingers. "Maybe it's because the universe knows your a take charge kind of woman... and that you can handle it. You have already been through so much shit, that it knows that you can do this with your hands behind your back." He smiled down at her, love shining in his eyes for her. "Plus, if you haven't noticed, you're pretty fucking badass. A powerhouse, if I have ever seen one."
She smiled up at him, face tear stained, but still so beautiful in his eyes. She smacked her lips and grinned. "I am pretty badass."
"And drop dead gorgeous," Paul stated with a chuckle when she blushed. "I'm glad the universe put you in my life, Madelyn." He leaned down and they shared a delicate kiss.
I love you — Maddie thought.
And that's just a scary thought.
But, at this point, Maddie was ready for anything that came her way, even if it meant opening her heart fully to someone, even if she has had bad luck in the love department.
