Michael Has a Brother?
[wow, this is a long one.]
"Jackson, your thinking face makes you look constipated."
That was the first thing Namjoon had said when he walked into his best friend's bedroom, a plastic plate- with a slice of the cheesecake Jackson had bought for himself before dinner- in hand (because the maids were extremely tired of cleaning up all the glass crockery, he'd managed to destroy the second he touched).
Jackson ignored him as he continued to think of a plan of action. No matter what his brain conjured up to satisfy his end goal, he just couldn't get his gut (because Jackson would never admit to his heart being the actual culprit for all his excessive thinking, so gut it is) to settle on it. He was a man of instinct after all. Which right now, seems to be a pain in the ass (... or brain).
"You're really wired up about all this, huh?" Namjoon said when Jackson failed to notice his slice of cheesecake. Jackson would usually have Namjoon in a chokehold for touching his food, but today he just stared at the wooden carving of the two bears on his fire mantel.
Namjoon was no fool though, so he decided to leave the man be. God forbid, he disturbs Jackson from the one time he's actually trying to use his brain. He sat in silence- beside the man- on the leather couch, starting into the same direction as Jackson, choosing to dream of his boyfriend instead.
There was a knock on the door (because not everyone was as mannerless as Namjoon) that had Jackson finally pull his eyes away from the figure on the wall to the smiling one at the door. Jackson smiled back and motioned for the man to enter, not being able to help himself. Hoseok's face usually brought out the same reaction from everyone.
"Hey Hoseok, whatcha you got for me?" Jackson asked as he leaned back into the couch.
"Um, well for starters, intel has managed to dig up as much as they can on Mark Tuan." Hoseok said as he politely declined the half-eaten cheesecake Namjoon offered him. "But we couldn't find any medical records of his. Like, absolutely nothing. No birth certificate, no vaccinations, no admissions, nothing. Because of that it's going to be really hard to find out whether he's Michael's son."
"But we managed to verify his finger prints- How did you do that?" Jackson said confused.
"Well, when I did the scan, I didn't actually use any medical records-" He paused when his boyfriend walked in the room, looking grumpy that he had left him to 'deal' with himself after Hoseok had slyly riled him up. Just because Hoseok looked like an angle, didn't mean he acted like one with his Yoongi. "- because we were still researching and I had a date to get to, so instead I had to enhance a screenshot form the security footage from ten years ago. It took a while but I managed to decode it and get an actual accurate reading. I then flipped through the image file and managed to get a full hand print." Hoseok said smugly as he plopped himself on his boyfriend's lap.
Jackson tried not to roll his eyes; it didn't work. God, why was everyone around him so gay?
"There's got to be some record, like I mean he's twenty-three, he's got to have gone to the hospital at least once in his life. Wait, maybe he was born somewhere else?" Namjoon said before he quickly shovelled the last bit of cheesecake into his mouth- Jackson had just noticed the plate.
"I did think that too at first, but there aren't any records in the international database either. I couldn't find anything on his mother either. She was originally from Taiwan, so I did a little check up there too, but couldn't find anything."
"How about educational records, schools and universities- anything?" Jackson asked as he looked through the file that Hoseok had placed in the glass tea table.
"Until his senior year in school, Michael had used his leeway to get Mark in. He used to run his dirty laundry* through the schools. And as for university, I think Mark took his own initiative- he's paying for his tuition from a separate account in his mother's name. ." Hoseok took a break to watch Jackson carefully before he continued. "So, I looked into that too, and with the help of a couple friends I was able to find out that the person was Michael's older brother, Richard Osaka. But what confused me was that the bank documents were all made six years ago...so, my guess is that Richard isn't dead- because I know for a fact that it'll take a whole lifetime for anyone to be good enough to code like he did- and Mark has managed to get a hold of him."
Jackson blinked while Namjoon sat back, really impressed. Yoongi sat as grumpy as the day he was born.
"I- Wait. So, Michael has a brother?" Jackson asked again, this conversation just confused him more and more as it progressed. Hoseok slowly sighed. Yeah, he wasn't going to be able to make it for his date with Yoongi, tonight.
"Okay, I'll start from the beginning. So, Michael's father was actually the owner of one of the biggest brothels in Osaka, during World War Two. He supplied comfort women to both the Japanese army as well as the American soldiers that landed there after the war. It wasn't surprising that the brothel continued even after the Tokyo trials, because Michael's father was married to an esteemed American Commissioned officer's daughter. When Richard was old enough to inherit the family business, he took the liberty of shutting down the brothel and freeing all the men and women they kept. This got him kicked out of the family, which he had no objections to, so he came to South Korea and started on the foundation of ASEC. A few years later Michael joined him and they built ASEC Security Inc. up, one brick at a time." Hoseok paused to take a breather.
"How di-"
"I'm not done yet." Hoseok interjected. "The brothers suddenly had a huge fall out and Richard left the business. He had legally handed over the entire company to his younger brother and everything was going well. That is until Richard was killed in a car crash twelve years ago...or so the investigation documents say."
"But you think he's not dead?" Namjoon asked intrigued.
"Yes, and no. The cause of death matched up perfectly with the records- even the dental records, so there is a possibility of him actually being dead. But since all the other evidence was burned in the explosion cause when the heat hit the gas tank, there wasn't any proof of how the car had crashed and caught fire in the first place. In my opinion, the fall out they had must have something to do with the business, so when Richard left, Michael most probably would have been furious. Richard didn't seem to make a fuss about it either, when he handed the company over- which I think was his plan from the get go. All the research I've done till now, tells me that Richard didn't inherit much of the business mindset from his father. He was the roam free kind, not liking to be clamped down behind a desk or whatever."
"So, you're saying Michael offed his own brother?" Jackson was now the one to ask.
"I'm really not sure, I've managed to get my hands on two of the letters Michael had sent Richard when he first left Japan. They were really close and he seemed to really look up to his elder brother, so I don't know if his liking to his brother changed after Richard left ASEC." Hoseok paused again, as if he just remembered something else. "The thing is, Richard may have not acted like it, but he was exceptionally smart- as I mentioned before. If the cash was scheduled or planned then there was a ninety percent chance, he would have known it. He didn't strike me as a man to willingly allow himself to get killed, so he probably would have done something about it. Maybe he switched out the dental records in the morgue and fled or something- I refuse to believe such an intelligent man as himself died in that crash."
"Are you saying smart people don't die?" Namjoon laughed out, but caught himself when Yoongi sent him a glare.
"I don't know, how about I try killing you and we'll see if it works." Hoseok said with a sarcastic smile. Namjoon raised his hands up in surrender.
"Okay, so you think Richard's alive. What does this have to do with anything?" Jackson asked intercepting the friendly quarrel.
"Well, if Michael did plan the crash, Richard might have an agenda against him. Getting him on our side would mean an infiltration from the inside of ASEC, seeing as the man help build it. But since he's smart and is probably off the grid, it'll be impossible to find him. That's where Mark would come in, you said he hated Michael, right? We could get-" Hoseok asked as he looked at Jackson.
"Woah, wait, wait. Don't get Mark into this. If Richard had an agenda against Michael, why hasn't he acted all this time?"
Hoseok looked at Jackson weird for a second, before he answered.
"I think he's waiting for the right time, that's probably why he would have help Mark getting into uni."
"So, you're positive he's still alive then?" Jackson asked, to which Hoseok shrugged. Jackson knew Hoseok was the best at what he does, so if he thought Richard was alive, then he definitely is.
